  1. QUOTE (Reddy @ Apr 12, 2010 -> 08:40 PM) official after two whole games. good lord. Yeah, pretty sure that was sarcasm... hard to tell in this thread though, I admit.
  2. The one Jays fan I know said he feels Rios is going to bounce back with the Sox and is mad the Jays gave him up for nothing.
  3. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Apr 12, 2010 -> 08:28 PM) Honestly, you do have to be concern with Peavy's fastball and where it's at. It's not like he's pitching outside in the freezing cold. His fastball needs to be at least in the mid to high 90's. If not, he's not all that effective. Sorry, but it's the truth boys. It's not the first time it's ever happened, hell it happens to Buehrle what seems like once a month, it happened to Danks about 3 starts in the year where he had absolutely nothing. I will start to panic if he is still doing this well into May.
  4. Ugh few things piss me off more than having the Sox score a run to tie or take the lead, and then the pitcher gives it up the next inning.
  5. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 11, 2010 -> 11:13 PM) I wanted Mark out of there because Hudson was coming up and he had hit Buehrle very hard the first two ABs. When you have Mauer and Morneau coming up after him, you really don't want him on base. I wanted Mark out of there too but it wasn't something I wanted to scream about (like, say, Kotsay hitting 5th and the fact that he had a HR today doesn't change anything).
  6. "It worked, so it was the right strategy" is something you hear Joe Morgan say, and of course Joe Morgan is arguably the worst commentator on TV. Just because you played with the odds and got lucky doesn't mean it was the right decision, over an option that had higher odds of success. I wasn't that upset with Ozzie for leaving Mark out there, though. Mark was cruising, and it's not a bad idea to keep the bullpen fresh.
  7. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Apr 11, 2010 -> 10:36 PM) she got the supreme court nod based entirely on demographics and actually has clearly stated that she believes courts should not only interpret law but "The court is where policy is made. " in her opinion. Most people don't follow things correctly or understand why that is dangerous. I will give her credit for coming out and admitting it, as most of the 'supremes' likely feel that way but would never say so. Did you see her entire statement of that or are you just zeroing on that parsed-out piece of a quote? (Rhetorical, I already know the answer.) She was talking about how decisions that courts make set precedent. Anyone who says this isn't true is either ignorant or is just lying. Also, whether she was selected based on demographics or whether she wasn't is almost entirely irrelevant, because like I said, there is no "one" "most qualified person"... there are so many that fit this description that the president can pretty much do that if he wants to.
  8. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 11, 2010 -> 10:15 PM) does being a governor of a big state like california count? Depends, what exactly are we talking about? For the Supreme Court, by itself, no it doesn't
  9. QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 11, 2010 -> 06:45 PM) It wasn't a comparison. It was an example. All relief pitchers - have, do, and will - blow games. It was a terrible example. I live in a house. High-paid baseball players, they also live in houses, even if they're many times bigger than mine See? Totally alike. I'm not comparing my house to the mansions of MLB players, just saying, you know... people have houses. Right?
  10. Instead of buying an iPad I decided to buy Apple stock and make money off all the people that actually do buy them, since I really don't have much use/desire for one. So far so good. I'm not an Apple fan or hater, but they know how to make money. Apple likes to keep everything closed and make everyone do things through them, and to control everything. Google on the other hand is the opposite of Apple, they want everything to be open and free, and to Apple this seems like insanity but it's been working wonders for Google so far. Google is too expensive to invest in for most people, though. Also, am I the only one that has a Zune and actually likes it?
  11. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 02:36 PM) That's how it should be. There would a heck of a lot more lawyers who are pleasant to be around then. haha. The people I know that are like that didn't realize they hated law until they were like over halfway done with law school, and they didn't want to waste the money and time so they just ended up staying with it and hating their jobs/lives.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 10, 2010 -> 12:49 AM) So in the people of Wal-Mart theme... our teller tonight got into a conversation about bad customers... at which time she proceded to inform us that "black people are the worst, they think they own the place" To which I replied... "Don't even get me started on the Jews..." She shut up pretty quick. It was excellent. lol
  13. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Apr 10, 2010 -> 08:35 PM) Well part of it has to be on Kenny too. He has final say in making the roster, and thus the power to shoot down Ozzie's idiotic ideas about how the everyday lineup should be constructed. Yeah... but at the same time that's why he has Ozzie. It's easier to hold Ozzie accountable if you give him what he wants and let him run the team the way he wants. Still, I agree.
  14. Last year I had a G1 (which is now a Motorola Cliq) and I would post to this site from Camden Yards - a couple of posters asked me in the game thread how I was commenting on something in the first person but also posting it. It was pretty cool, although I was limited to what my battery could do.
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 10, 2010 -> 08:27 PM) Well, once you assume that anyone who isn't a white male can't be the most qualified person, it narrows the field a fair amount. That too, that any time a non-white male is picked was just because they were a woman, or they were a minority, that is really obnoxious - this is one of the few things I'll actually agree with Clarence Thomas on. Of course some people did that to Sotomayor, and I was like did they even bother to look at her education and career before hollering about how she wasn't qualified? I doubt it, I bet the only thing they knew about her was the "wise Latina" quote and the ruling she made in the New Haven case (except they won't know why she made that ruling, i.e. she's not really in a position to overturn it, that's not what courts are for).
  16. Oh, something I remember about Sotomayor's confirmation process - the idea that there is a single "most qualified" person out there is f***ing ludicrous. There are probably literally dozens, maybe hundreds of people that are qualified enough to be nominated, even if there's usually about 5 people that seem to get looked at.
  17. QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 10, 2010 -> 08:20 PM) Clinton's what - 63/64? He's not that old yet. For a Supreme Court nominee he is. You want them to serve for as long as possible, so you don't want to nominate anyone older than about 55.
  18. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Apr 10, 2010 -> 05:41 PM) Ozzie is the perfect scapegoat this year. Kenny and Jerry need to either develop the farm system or spend money. Ownership of this roster is all on Ozzie, this is the team he wants, he said so himself.
  19. QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 10, 2010 -> 07:58 PM) Bill Clinton is eligible, right? He's a former lawyer. The president can nominate whoever he wants, Clinton is probably too old though. I think the president can even nominate himself if he wanted to.
  20. QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 10, 2010 -> 03:20 PM) A walk, nice. Need Pierre to get on... I said GET ON, not BUNT. Oh well.
  21. He's right though, being a good mayor doesn't really mean anything, legal qualifications do, but that doesn't.
  22. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Apr 10, 2010 -> 03:19 PM) Or a hockey mom from a small town in Alaska. lol. You know what, that would almost be worth it, if you actually got to read her writings on majority opinions or dissents (have you ever read anything she's written on her own, without help from advisors? My god).
