WTF is up with this game? Can Alexei just hit another homer and end this?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 12, 2009 -> 11:59 PM) The thing that no one is talking about, as usual, is individual economic freedom. That is the one thing that this country was really founded on. We keep losing more and more of our rights and freedoms "for the good of the masses", but no one seems to care about it. It amazes me that the same groups of people who could throw the Franklin quote about sacrificing liberty during the freedom of speech and privacy arguments, have no problem sacrificing their own economic liberties permanently. I actually brought this up about 30 pages ago, what economic freedom do I have right now? This system is pretty opaque. Besides the premium and the list of options I have when I enroll, I don't see where any of the other money goes or have much of a choice in how much it costs. Dems aren't talking about economic freedom because a government takeover of healthcare isn't on the table.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 13, 2009 -> 12:01 AM) Then maybe Pelosi shouldn't speak about the entire Congress's ethics then... For whatever reason, when people talk about "Congress" they are talking about the House. If you call a senator "Congressman" instead of "Senator" they get snippy.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Aug 12, 2009 -> 09:10 PM) just like the Democrat and GOP base. Whatever Talking Point memo or Matt Drudge reports on turns into a big b**** fest between the groups. It's funny, once said person has downloaded that point from their respective source and are told how to think, it's almost impossible to get them to change their mind most of the time.

I just, in so many words, got called a sheep and was confronted on why I support government management of healthcare by a stranger on someone else's Facebook status because I criticized how some conservatives were handling themselves lately and said they were hard to take seriously. God that s*** is annoying. I politely, but condescendingly set her straight. edit: after arguing, she friend requested me. lol. At least she's attractive.

Does anyone else here hate Camille Paglia's phony guts?

What year is the Volt supposed to be ready for production? 2011? Cuz if so, I'm going to start saving money for a down payment now. My current loan matures in 2011.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 12, 2009 -> 11:47 AM) It's only evil if the government sits in a room and decides it. It's not evil if the private sector has panels that sit in a room and decide whether or not they're going to pay for people's treatment. I just don't get it... why so indignant about a hyperbolic, hypothetical scenario that doesn't even exist?

I have heard a few people trying to say "Palin's comment was exaggerated but not really that far off." Any possible explanation justifying that exaggeration (well, bald-faced lie, but I'm in a generous mood) is a moot point though, because that stuff already exists in the system we have now, it's just not transparent and called something else (rationing etc, even though rationing is already happening and always has been). Plus, this is under the assumption that a gov't takeover of the system is being proposed, which it's not.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 12, 2009 -> 10:46 AM) Jeez...can you stop with all the criticism? Kinda forgot I just posted that.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Aug 12, 2009 -> 10:43 AM) Have a nice day! It's an epic fail, the fact that you skipped the letter G.

I know that Griffey really didn't do much of anything as a White Sox, but that to me is all secondary. It was just awesome seeing possibly my favorite player of all time in my team's uniform. When the Sox came to Baltimore I finally got to see him in person, he even doubled off the wall and for a minute I almost got to see his swing and home run stare. That was a good day.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 11, 2009 -> 07:02 PM) I'm trying to figure out what turned Dye into such an unpopular player on this board. I'm hoping it's just because of peoples dislike for me on this board and I'm a huge Dye supporter. Aside from that, I for the life of me can't believe the Dye hatred I've seen lately. It's unexplainable. Paulie last year and Dye this year. Wow. People don't hate Dye, sheesh. People didn't hate Crede either. Why do you do this? Every time people criticize the play of someone you like you think it's something personal and you go over the top with it? It's like clockwork. Next thing that happens is people ridicule you for being over the top and then things just deteriorate from there. On one level it's funny, on another level it's irritating.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 11, 2009 -> 09:25 PM) I don't think he was on the juice. He was scouted. When you don't make contact, and don't take a ton of walks, and don't get many hits other than homers, unless your in a select few, your major league career is very brief. For the people that insisted Fields didn't get much of a shot, this is basically what happened, and he was supposed to be picking up where he left off in 2007. Instead he fell behind when pitchers figured him out and he never adjusted. It isn't really uncommon. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 11, 2009 -> 09:23 PM) If you face him anywhere but USCF, you have a chance. Even if I could get used to a major league fastball (I can barely see a fastball that fast, let alone hit one), MLB-quality breaking stuff would send me into convulsions and fits of vomiting. -

QUOTE (Gregory Pratt @ Aug 11, 2009 -> 07:32 PM) I remember when people were penciling him into our starting lineup with thirty homeruns. I remember when people insisted they could hit Gavin Floyd. -
Not that I'm going to defend the most obvious of Dem crooks, but isn't the whole "ethics" push Pelosi's thing? These guys are senators. Different boat.

QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Aug 11, 2009 -> 01:24 PM) I lurked around school playgrounds for a long time before my first posting. Seriesly though, I lurked just a little before posting. I had been a longtime WSI guy but was getting fed up with the way that was being run and was looking for something else. Soxtalk was a breath of fresh air. ^^similar to what I did. I was aware of Soxtalk, came here to browse now and again, but just got sick of WSI after I got banned like the 3rd or 4th time over trivial s***.

You guys could at least pretend to try to be nice and welcome a new poster you know.

If I understand correctly, the EPA hasn't given an "official" number. The actual number really isn't that important though. That's marketing, GM wants people to start going "holy s*** 230 miles to the gallon!" Which so far seems to be working.

QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 11, 2009 -> 01:50 PM) Um, North Dakota. Is anything there? I know a girl from the Army who had huge boobs. But she had a reduction and now she's just a 36C. So yeah, almost had something there. Not quite.

Glenn Greenwald making an overarching point about the media that's just kind of bizarre, to be honest. http://glenngreenwald.blogspot.com/2006/10...-you.html#links
