QUOTE (hogan873 @ Aug 4, 2009 -> 06:43 PM) He is talking about Carl Crawford, right? Not Frank Crawford or Gary Crawford or Cricket Crawford? You guys beat me to it. Sure she's getting up there in age but I'd rather have her than Pods.

This is obviously not a serious thread.

QUOTE (Nokona @ Aug 4, 2009 -> 04:56 PM) I think Chicago will be renamed Beckham, IL. Shooting so low. The United States of America will be renamed "Beckham," something I think should happen anyway because the current name is too long.

QUOTE (hogan873 @ Aug 4, 2009 -> 01:37 PM) Lot of anger and hate and yelling and swearing for a topic about one of the best Sox players. ??? Are we reading the same thread? It's mostly a bunch of humorous over-the-top posts.

I just didn't think it was possible to praise Beckham too much.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 4, 2009 -> 01:11 PM) He did, but also used the present as well And the people on the news channels who invite them on (which is up to and the right of each news network) don't bash or criticize them? (I ask b/c I don't pay attention when they are brought on any program). I know I saw a program on Nat Geo or History i forget that followed the film makers of on eof the bigger 9/11 conspiracy documentaries. Like they always do,they brought on the skeptics but they portray both views without much slant. They let each side give the arguments. Birthers are brought on, and generally given the opportunity to explain their point of view, but it's usually quickly apparent that they are full of s*** and they end up getting mocked/shouted down because the host gets frustrated. Orly Taitz herself is probably the perfect example. Then she has the nerve to claim bias in the liberal mainstream media because she is insane and didn't actually answer any of their questions, lol.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 4, 2009 -> 01:09 PM) The tag line may have been "What really happened?!?!"!!!!""" But the documentaries all went into some amount of detail as to why the troothers were stupid. ^^

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 4, 2009 -> 09:48 AM) That doesnt bother me nearly as much as the number of people who believe someone other than Al Qaeda was responsible for 9/11 What bothers me is the sheer number of people in this country that are actually that stupid.
-
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 4, 2009 -> 09:50 AM) Not really your fault though. All we ever learn about in school is America, England, Western Europe and Russia (but only when Russia did stuff concerning Europe). Yeah that's true. I learned the same stuff every year. Go over ancient civilizations like Egypt and Babylon in the first quarter, then Greece, Persia, and Rome, then discovery of the New World, then the American Revolution, World War I, and World War II. I don't actually think we even got as far as the Nixon administration in grade school. We'd just go into more detail as the years went on or emphasize different things. I also didn't ever realize Mesopotamia and the Tigris/Euphrates was in Iraq until I was actually right there. My first week in the country and we were organizing a convoy, and the guy said "we'll be crossing the Tigris at this point" and I thought whoa... my whole life I've never put 2 and 2 together there.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 4, 2009 -> 09:26 AM) What percentage of Americans in general could do that? 10%? Hell, some people still think Africa's a country. I actually didn't know Korea was by Japan and wasn't close to Vietnam until I was like 20. Shame on me.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 4, 2009 -> 09:21 AM) I disagree there. Brian's whole swing was long and loopy, usually - but he had different swings. And no consistent approach either. He was just all over the place. His problem is not the same as Fields', in my view. He had the same kind of hole in his swing that Fields has. He spent basically his whole time here trying to smooth it out and couldn't ever do it (mostly his fault, partly because he wasn't given extended time to get it until this year and even then Wise poached some starts vs. RHP even though BA had no problem hitting them). Brian was a 2 o'clock hitter - he'd get all the lessons and coaching throughout the day, but come game time, he couldn't apply it.

I like that post Y2HH. Those are the posts that I read and digest, I skim over all the stuff that looks like generic oversimplified talking points (like the CNN article I just read, and reading those comments makes me facepalm).
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 4, 2009 -> 09:19 AM) I wouldn't say that 100% on Fields just yet. Unlike BA, who had just an overall bad approach and swing, Fields has had success and is one mechanical change away from being a valuable hitter. Whether he does that or not remains to be seen, but, I wouldn't sentence him to that just yet. So was BA.

QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Aug 3, 2009 -> 10:02 PM) I would rather play Nix than Ramirez. Ramirez is just not that good to me. Nix at the bottom of the order has some pop, takes pitches, and can hit and run. Ramirez pulls everything. QUOTE (SockMe @ Aug 3, 2009 -> 10:09 PM) I agree, Ramirez makes stupid errors and isn't a good hitter. Jayson is pretty good in the field, and isn't afraid to take pitches, like against the Great Mariano on sunday Wow...? I'm a Nix fan, but he's not an everyday player, and he's looked shaky at SS. He's a good utility guy to have but come on now.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 4, 2009 -> 08:56 AM) I want to get all your opinion on this. On the Score yesterday, B&B where doing some "speculating" as to who Beckham projects out to be as a hitter. Comparing him to other 3rd Baseman like Todd Ziel and even Ron Santo. They were purposely excluding Hall of Famers to compare him to. But I got to thinking, why not? If you look at what he projects out to be... .300 hitter, 15-25 hr/season, 80-95 RBI/season... only one player comes to mind... Derek Jeter. If Beckham was player for Boston or NY, he'd be called the next Derek Jeter. I also dont think Beckham will play 3rd for life. He'l get moved to SS or 2B at some point. I'm not so sure this isnt a fair POTENTIAL comparison. If you look at his numbers right now, and his numbers in the minors (which are basically exactly the same), his stats project exactly to Jeter's.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 4, 2009 -> 02:04 AM) By the way, lost, what do you do after you have mastered all of the jobs? I finally did it a few days ago, and I kind of just float around leveling up for almost no reason. Go to the last Cuba level and loot TNT, Guerrilla Squads, and Armored State cars. Best weapons/armor/vehicles in the game. Either that or work on collections.

First game thread I've ever started. Let's see how this goes.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 4, 2009 -> 03:35 AM) I didn't think it was possible. But somehow, someway, somebody has managed to overrate Gordon Beckham. Congratulations.

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Aug 4, 2009 -> 02:34 AM) lol, that's embarrassing.

Actually that's a really good analogy and it makes perfect sense. You COULD just leave the 58 inch tv in the bedroom and start watching tv there, after all, its a 58 inch tv and you should just be glad you have one. But why not put it where you'll get the best use out of it?

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 4, 2009 -> 12:00 AM) Gordon Beckham is all kinds of good. What’s amazing is that his major league numbers are nearly identical to his minor league numbers. Ideally, minor league numbers should somewhat project into the majors. For Gordon, they’re absolute spot on. What’s most impressed me about Beckham, other then his walk up music, is his incredible plate discipline. Theirs not a player on this team who can work as good an AB as the kid, even more incredible is that’s he nearly always squares up the ball. Gordon Beckham = AS Advertised in nearly ever facet of the game. Carlos Quentin?

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 3, 2009 -> 11:00 PM) They're ultra conservative when it comes to everything. And lostfan, you're right, I couldn't read dailykos or du for that long either. Those guys are smart but it's like they live in a completely different world, one where reality is not a factor.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 3, 2009 -> 10:50 PM) For whatever reason, they tend to congregate at automotive forums. I stopped frequenting one that I've been at since 2002 because of how retarded it got. You could always browse freerepublic but your brain may implode to save itself from the pain. Kap's Kaperbole doesn't come close to the legitimate crazy of some people out there. Funny, I was actually on freerepublic this afternoon reading birther comments and laughing at them. There was a poster who copied and pasted something from a poster named "realkenyan" apparently at another board, debunking the debunking of the "Kenyan birth certificate" and saying it's real. But the post was so obviously fake. Maybe if the guy had named himself "realkenyanhonestlyimnotarandomwhiteguyinkentucky" I may have bought it. I can't read freeptard posts that long though or my head starts hurting. Same thing happens if I read DailyKos too long too, actually. Huffpo comments are ok for a while but they get boring. I think I like Salon the best for now, I love it when they start arguing with the Drudge trolls.
