  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 3, 2009 -> 10:41 PM) Scott Gregor=not so smart as other beat writers Really, buying into the Dye "rocket arm" crap? Yes, when he played for the Braves, or Macon in 1994. I saw him then, because I was working with the Augusta GreenJackets. Only Jose Guillen, Vlad Guerrero and Ruben Rivera (before his injury problems) had better throwing arms. But he hasn't been a great thrower or above average RF or 8-10 years, before the broken leg. And he catches every ball flat footed and never gets a good running start into it...heck, Pods has better throwing fundamentals, or Juan Pierre. You are 100% correct. I love Dye but his throwing is s***. QUOTE (DaveBrown85 @ Aug 3, 2009 -> 10:47 PM) thats why they are probably going to have him DH. and he still has as good as an arm as any other white sox outfielder. If not better In theory, yes, he should. His fundamentals are awful (where's Kalapse)?
  2. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Aug 3, 2009 -> 08:52 PM) Do we have any birth certificate deniers at Soxtalk? If not, we need some. I was actually just out in the yard a few minutes ago thinking about this. We don't have any bats*** crazy posters here besides kapkomet and that's just an act. How do we go about finding a bona fide birther to make fun of?
  3. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Aug 3, 2009 -> 07:48 PM) haha, you guys are still completely obsessed with Sarah Palin. My latest obsession is laughing at birthers. lol, they are more willing to accept an obviously fake Kenyan birth certificate than Obama's actual one that he released, or the fact that Hawaii's health department and GOP governor confirmed the authentic one (that he could release, but is ignoring them) exists.
  4. Orly Taitz is a psycho, that interview was painful to watch but I fought off the urge to close it halfway through. I honestly wonder what she has to do to get disbarred? When you look into her it's clear she has no respect for the law, courts, legal process, judges, anything like that. She even accused John Roberts of treason for not backing her crazy ass. lol. The Supreme Court ruled on the one-parent citizenship thing like 150 years ago. And, by the way, nowhere in the Constitution does it say anything about needing both parents as Americans.
  5. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 3, 2009 -> 05:59 PM) Uh, even that is part of the game. I fight people all the time in Mafia Wars, and I specifically target the weakest people out of the choices they give you. If you're level 200 and you're picking on a level 40 for no reason and keep at it that's pretty unnecessary.
  6. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Aug 3, 2009 -> 04:24 PM) Question for those that play Mafia Wars... What is considered "abuse" on that game? There is another player at about the same level as me that had a mega casino that I robbed. Then she hitlisted me. So I went back and robbed another one of her properties. She hitlisted me AND tried to attack/rob me. Since I have more mafia members, the attacks weren't very successful. I hitlisted her 3 times in 10 minutes (why she kept healing herself is beyond me) and it kept going back and forth. This is all with a 4-5 hour time period. She finally sent me a message that I should quit attacking her and she reported me for "abuse". I say it's just part of the game and when she kept retailiating, that meant that she was willing to play along. My general rule is that if somebody with a higher level or more members than me robs/attacks me, I'll try to retailate once or twice and just take my lumps and be done with it. FWIW, I told her that we can call a truce. lol that's not abuse. I mean, she was fighting back and you were responding. I mean I could see if you were a higher level than her and robbed her 10 times out of the blue while she is sitting defenseless, but not so much. She is just being a p****.
  7. QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 3, 2009 -> 03:01 PM) Did this guy seriously say that Poreda will lead a team to the WS? HAHAHAHA! He said the opposite.
  8. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 3, 2009 -> 01:46 PM) Perhaps you haven't seen the Thome shift. When he hits fly balls, they go everywhere. He hits lots of opposite field homers.
  9. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 3, 2009 -> 11:57 AM) I want to keep Beckham in the 2 slot indefinitely. They'll mess with his swing and make him pull happy like every other great hitter we've seen on this team in the last 15 years if he becomes the #3 hitter. See Carlos Lee, Maggs, Thomas, Konerko, Dye, Thome... Thome's not pull happy
  10. Think of the good teams we've played this year - Yankees, Rays, Angels (earlier), Dodgers off the top of my head. We've held our own against all those teams so far. We have trouble with the s*** teams, two of which happen to be in our division (Detroit and Minnesota).
  11. What happened? When did Americans become so stupid? Or were they always this way and I just didn't notice?
  12. Good lord. Did the Truthers ever get this much traction?
  13. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 3, 2009 -> 01:01 PM) BS. Keep reading that propoganda. ANY plan that leaves the option of "government insurance" is crap. Medicare is so broken it obviously doesn't work like it needs to yet we want the whole country to be on a "medicare like" plan? No. No. And no. Fix that first, and MAYBE we can consider it after that. You want to "cut costs" (I mean ration) the government needs to get out of the way. Wait. tsk tsk - EVIL PROFITS - tsk tsk - should never be allowed in any industry because that means they are evil-ly taking money away from someone else by definition. Sorry... utopia for all - I need to get that brainwashed through my head. Insurance companies don't ration?
  14. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 3, 2009 -> 01:02 PM) GIVE IT TO ME, OBAMA! NOW! I didn't know you swung that way kap. To each his own.
  15. ^^actually OBP correlates best to runs. Not SLG. OBP .93 SLG .87 AVG .79 HR .64 2B .23 3B .08
  16. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Aug 3, 2009 -> 12:49 PM) Oh yea, i mean, hopefully my point's not being misconstrued, but to be clear - i'm very happy Josh Fields is very far away No, I get what you're saying. I still say the premise of this thread is complete nonsense.
  17. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Aug 3, 2009 -> 12:32 PM) Lets say Getz and Fields were both hitting .275 all year and Beckham was held off for a few months. At the point when Beckham could not be held off anymore, it always wouldve been Fields that had the short straw. b/c Getz gives us a lefthanded bat and muchneeded speeded. Not even. If Fields is hitting .275, he is slugging far more than Getz ever could, i.e. the 3B of the future that they expected him to be.
  18. QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 3, 2009 -> 11:39 AM) While he is a different and perhaps lesser hitting prospect than Frank, his approach is one that doesn't slump nearly as much. Players that stay inside the ball like Gordon often does don't slump as often. You'll oftentimes see Paulie hitting to right field when he's trying to get out of a slump. Frank in his prime was a high-average line drive hitter with a s***-ton of power, not a pull-happy power hitter. Later-career Frank changed his approach to keep his power.
  19. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 3, 2009 -> 10:20 AM) There is a new "birth certificate" going around the internet claiming to be the Kenyan Birth Certificate of Barack Obama...
  20. lol. I figured it had to come full circle one day. There is nowhere else it could have possibly come from, Soxtalk definitely started that.
  21. QUOTE (shoelessinva @ Aug 3, 2009 -> 07:19 AM) NO way you play Q over JD in RF. You need a cannon for an arm for RF. And Q does not even compare to JD's rocket arm. I'd say Q splits time at DH and LF. And, as much as i would hate to see this, move Ramirez for prospects and perhaps bullpen help. He's got real value now and Bacon appears to be staying and should play his natural SS position. Just my thoughts. JD's arm really isn't all it's cracked up to be. It's strong, but he never actually makes any good throws. You make it sound like Quentin has a girly arm though. Quentin is not Vladimir Guerrero but he still has a plus arm.
  22. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Aug 3, 2009 -> 09:31 AM) All of this moving Beckham is predicated on having a sound option at third base, which we currently don't. Viciedo won't be a third baseman, most likely, and Brent Morel still has a long way to go. With our finite resources, it makes sense to keep Beckham/Alexei/Getz as our infielders for awhile because paying $10 million for a third baseman isn't economically smart when you have Beckham entrenched there. As well, spending at second base isn't smart when Getz is going to get better and is pretty good already.. Also, Gordon likely will become a very good third baseball, given a year or two full-time at the position, that is worth a lot in its own right. The bolded part is really obvious but keeps getting repeated even though it's been acknowledged. Of course we'd have to find a solid 3B first, otherwise moving Beckham back to the middle would be stupid. The rest of the post is all good points, there is no reason to change anything right now. But in the future, adding a 3B (let's say, hypothetically, Chone Figgins) would make this lineup ridiculous.
  23. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 3, 2009 -> 07:20 AM) I find it funny that you're supposed to put guys in certain positions so they have more "value" in people's minds. Who cares what position Beckham plays as long as he's in the line-up. I saw one post where if you put Chase Utley in the OF he just becomes your regular 30-35 homer guy with 110-120 rbi, like there are hundreds of those around. If Beckham gets even better than he is now and stays at 3rd, he'll probably be the best 3rd baseman the White Sox ever had. I don't see the downside. I really don't understand the disdain a lot here have for Getz. In March, the consensus was he should lead off, now after performing about as well as expected, he needs to be replaced. I guess fans are conditioned to scoring via the longball. They complain when thats the only way to score, but when a guy like this comes along, since he doesn't hit a lot of homers, he's garbage, and needs to be replaced by someone who can play 3rd and hit homers. Beckham's "value" is his value to the White Sox, not his "value" vs. others at certain positions. If the White Sox are better off with Beckham at 3rd, that's where he's most valuable. If its second, the same. As long as he's in the line-up, I'm happy. I kind of went out of my way to clarify all this.
  24. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 3, 2009 -> 01:34 AM) Kalapse, Who would you compare Gordon to, if you had to? The question is directed at Kalapse, I know, but his stats are starting to look a lot like Derek Jeter's.
