  1. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 3, 2009 -> 01:52 AM) Oh please Beckham at 3rd base is just fine . All this talk about him being at SS or 2nd base because he's so much more valuable there is nonsense. Will he be a better hitter at 2nd or SS then he is at 3rd base ? Right now Getz and Beckham are doing an excellent job right where they are. It's not nonsense. It's not like he's A-Rod and puts up MVP offensive numbers. Granted, his bat is so solid that you want it in the lineup no matter where that may be, but fact is, a bat like that is harder to find in the middle infield. That's why Alexei is playing SS right now. First you find a good 3B though, obviously. Someone who is better than Getz. Otherwise don't bother. It's not the value of Beckham personally so much as it's the overall value to the lineup.
  2. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Aug 3, 2009 -> 12:55 AM) .311/.374/.486/.860 in 207 PA this season .335/.396/.524/.920 in his last 193 PA (remove the first 4 games of his career) .374/.416/.585/1.001 in 138 PA since his walkoff vs the Cubs Is it gay if I just jizzed? Holy s***.
  3. Wow, that's crazy. Nobody ever knew what happened to him. Even when I was in Iraq we were still passively looking for him, he was on the list of missing and everything.
  4. New Facebook status inspired by this exchange.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 2, 2009 -> 09:57 PM) I think our section of hell would be the bleachers at Wrigley, in April. Or late October? Or is that impossible even in hell?
  6. So, Shipps, what part of hell should I look for you to be in?
  7. Guys don't b**** about that call... Paulie could've and should've fouled that off. If it was a ball, it wasn't more than an inch off the plate. You don't leave your chances up to the umpire like that. It's one of those calls where we b**** if it's called a strike but Yankees fans b**** if it's called a ball. It wasn't one of those obviously blown calls that are 6 inches off the plate.
  8. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 2, 2009 -> 04:43 PM) That's an absolute bulls*** call. That was a strike. Barely, but a strike.
  9. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Aug 2, 2009 -> 04:37 PM) momentum shmomentum,no such thing fixed
  10. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 2, 2009 -> 04:26 PM) Can we take the Pods bunt out of the playbook? Please? We're talking about Ozzie, he gets an erection at just the thought of seeing it happen. Regardless of how bad an idea it is.
  11. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Aug 2, 2009 -> 03:28 PM) Yea but in the grind of 162 games, hitters dont get a chance to review each specific guy thoroughly. The atypical amount of attention Mark got in the nat'l press probably highlighted some of the things he does, as a bit of a refresher. And if anything it aids all those younger Yanks that have NOT been in the league since 01. They do actually. Before every game they watch film and such just like in football to know what to expect. I remember BA getting in trouble for not doing that in '06.
  12. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 2, 2009 -> 03:28 PM) Its you. Alexei is probably in the trainer's room. whoops. Meant Nix obviously. It's like SS is throwing him off. At 2B he makes that look easy.
  13. Is it just me or have half those base hits gone to Alexei's right?
  14. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Aug 2, 2009 -> 03:07 PM) Why the hell does Melky do so well against us? f***. Buehrle sucks vs. the Yankees.
  15. He got thrown out by like 25 feet, what was he thinking? I guess he just saw where he hit the ball and assumed it'd be a double. At least it wasn't one of those AJ "round first, pull up, then suddenly change his mind and get thrown out at 2nd" outs.
  16. I'm having the dumbest argument with a Yankee fan on another board who insists Buehrle is not a soft tosser. http://tbebaseball.com/index.php?s=&sh...st&p=100618
  17. QUOTE (Jeremy @ Aug 2, 2009 -> 04:01 AM) Agreed. Don't get me wrong, you can't demote Getz now that he's on fire. I just disagree with using hindsight to argue that giving close to all the time to Getz and none of it to Fields was clearly the right decision at a time when they were producing very similarly. It certainly was not clear that Getz would hit .340 over the course of a month and it's still unclear what improvements, if any, Fields would have made if he'd continued to receive consistent at bats. Getz obviously won't hit this well the rest of the way but at this point the die has been cast. There was no hindsight involved when I bumped this thread. I didn't like it then and I don't like it now, and this can be seen in my comments earlier in the thread. There was never any Fields vs. Getz competition, only a hypothetical in the OP's mind. The two players were in totally different situations and were not comparable. It didn't take much forethought to look at Fields and Getz, see their numbers falling (Fields's numbers were never actually that great early on, actually), and see the difference between the two. At this stage in his career, after all the talk of 2007 and the fact that he's had 300-something PAs already, Fields should be close to a finished product. Instead, he's regressed, a lot, and has never adjusted to his weaknesses. Getz was getting his full-time play in the majors, started hot, and pitchers adjusted to him. This thread was started at around Getz's lowest point, while Getz was still trying to adjust. Nobody's claiming to predict Getz being on fire right now, but one doesn't have to be Nostradamus to say "Getz stands a good chance of improving here, let him get through this". Bottom line: if Fields was hitting anywhere close to where he should be, he would still be at 3B, Getz would've done what he's done, and Beckham would probably still be in the minors. Fields's fate has never been tied to Getz. Just Fields.
  18. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 1, 2009 -> 05:23 PM) I also think it’s somewhat of a disservice to have a well-education African-American man talk hip, street lingo to the audience. Or a stupid racist (Joe Morgan).
  19. QUOTE (Allsox @ Aug 1, 2009 -> 07:45 PM) Considering the fact Jeter's got 4 rings, gets paid 18 million and his team is down 10 runs, I appreciate as a baseball fan the guy busting his ass to try and spark something for his team. Jeter is a great player and going to the Hall of Fame. The only thing that really burns my ass is that he won those Gold Gloves because of his bat.
  20. It seems like we play down to the level of our competition don't we?
  21. Man it feels good to have a laugher.
  22. This thread was started at the bottom of Getz's slump and during his adjustment period and was making a point that didn't make much sense. I made a note of how asinine it was and told myself I was going to bump it when Getz went through those adjustments.
  23. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 1, 2009 -> 07:28 PM) It doesn't matter. JR will open his checkbook as wide as it can go for this guy when he has to. Beckham is a guy if he remains healthy, who will be with the White Sox 15 years. This guy is a franchise player.
  24. Oh, stupid mistake by Beckham. It's cool though, won't affect the game at all.
