GameThread: White Sox(24-25) vs Athletics(19-29) 7:11 CSN

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 1, 2009 -> 10:34 PM) As washed up as he is, Thome has the best HR rate in the AL since he became a White Sox. I just have a hard time calling him "washed up" or taking anyone who says that he is seriously when his OPS is consistently at or over .900, sometimes approaching 1.000, and his OBP is at times over .400. If Ryan Howard was on the Sox I don't see anybody wanting to chase him out of town. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 1, 2009 -> 10:30 PM) I'm giving s*** to the people on this board who want Thome to bunt with the shift on. Oh... lol... yeah no. Thome should never bunt under any circumstances, besides, his fly balls are sprayed all over the field. -

QUOTE (beautox @ Jun 1, 2009 -> 10:27 PM) that is why you dont f***ing bunt, just let the iron of the order do their job and minimize the outs before them. ^^ -

A bunt is just totally unnecessary with Alexei anyway, he is a solid contact hitter, just go for the hit and run. -
QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jun 1, 2009 -> 10:06 PM) according to the definition of terrorism that i've been reading, a concentrated group effort using violence and threats to acheive a goal, is terrorism. now if you want to raise the bar to killing people is required for terrorism, thats fine. i'm just saying that his argument is not really off the mark from a certain consensus on what the definition of terrorism is. There's no academic or government consensus on what the definition of terrorism is, but generally the violence is for dramatic effect and it's intended for a broad audience (broader than just the people you're targeting, sometimes they're even arbitrary) and to drum up support for your cause. It's also not going to be common violence like vandalism or assault, because that means basically anyone who does these things is a terrorist. Union activists who use direct action (legal, btw) or threaten violence to influence decisions that favor them aren't terrorists, they're common criminals. Now, say they burned the building down, and/or killed/brutally beat 3 people and made a statement, that puts them over the line. Animal/environmental protesters destroy property all the time and try to get as much attention as possible, so they are domestic terrorists.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jun 1, 2009 -> 09:49 PM) now i'm not as anti-union as 2k5 and believe they can serve a good purpose, but what he is describing is text book terrorism. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/terrorism Bullying and intimidation to get something they want (a favorable outcome for themselves)? Just because there is violence and coercion involved doesn't make it "terrorism." It's a slippery slope, but it really isn't that slippery. If I call your house and say "you will let me have sex with your wife or I'll put you in the hospital" is that terrorism? No, it just makes me a douchebag who should go to jail, but not a domestic terrorist.

QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ Jun 1, 2009 -> 09:37 PM) pretty routine catch...dweezy just jumped for it I guess he wanted to make it look like he was robbing a HR... that one was going off the wall, though. He had to jump, and it was nice range, but it's not a catch that makes me go "OMG HE DOESN'T SUCK ANYMORE" -

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Jun 1, 2009 -> 09:30 PM) Not really. This is beyond plagarism. The guy's grades were altered, changed, or not even his. This is way worse than regular plagarism. It's way worse than Sampson last year overall. The only reason why more people are acting careless about it or trying to put it under the rug, is because it's Derrick Rose, from Chicago playing on the hometown Bulls. No, and please spare me the "this is how you actually feel but you're too blind to see it" lecture. I've already stated how I felt several times. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 1, 2009 -> 09:11 PM) Which do you consider Tiller's murder to be? Domestic terrorism, that's pretty textbook.
-
Yeah let's please not start talking about ordinary criminal activity and call it terrorism... god I hate that. You don't just arbitrarily drop the "t-word" into something you don't like to make it worse, it's intellectually dishonest and a copout.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 1, 2009 -> 09:04 PM) It was 3-1. Do that on 2-1, not 3-1. 3-1 is pretty much a fastball count and you don't give up a fastball down the middle on a bunt. I don't care if the 3B was playing in the bleachers. I think he tried to do it more than once, in any case it was a swinging count. Also I forgot to mention that there were 2 outs too. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 1, 2009 -> 07:08 PM) So why is the tone of the Lebron not shaking hands thing worse than Derrick Rose being a cheater? I've asked this already but why does this thread have 12 pages and not a single person replied to the post I made in the NBA thread about the player that saved that woman's life? Also, what are you talking about, the tone isn't any different, just the people talking. You have people on one hand talking negatively about LeBron, you have a couple people defending him, you have most people saying it isn't a big deal but it was still wrong of him. Basically the exact same as this. -

Alexei trying to bunt on a 2-0 count in the 3rd inning of a one-run game. Ugh I hate that. -
QUOTE (Dizzy Sox @ Jun 1, 2009 -> 06:41 PM) Somehow an interview with Ozzie just doesn't seem right without all the f-bombs... Or being grammatically correct.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jun 1, 2009 -> 04:34 PM) Make DRose repay his scholarship, any payments received, and loss of all credits gained at Memphis. Also, have some type of charity work or make him donate to a scholarship fund. Have heavy sanctions on Memphis and Calipari for violating the NCAA rules while making a hard statement that this violation will not go unnoticed and unpunished now or in the future. Im talking about big time probation in scholarships, losing the right to playoffs (NCAA tournament I mean), and heavy fines to the program and coach to go towards a scholarship fund (same as DRose, a fund such as one that helps kids going to college from the CPS or something.) Basically, force coaches and programs into the position where the risk is too great to give money to these players. That's ridiculously harsh, hell, people don't even get those kinds of penalties when they're found to be guilty of plagiarism. -

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jun 1, 2009 -> 06:15 PM) the old baseball idea of "can't lose your job to injury" is very stupid. if Ozzie just puts Wise back into the starting lineup day in and day out i'll be surprised and pissed. It's not just a baseball rule, guys lose their spots all the time in the NFL if they aren't that good and the guy that replaces them is clearly better. Biggest example, probably Tom Brady over Drew Bledsoe (and at that point Bledsoe was still pretty damn good). -
