  1. QUOTE (chw42 @ May 29, 2009 -> 04:11 PM) The difference is, he plays basketball. If he was a top student who got a free ride because of his grades instead of his hops, I would care a lot more. But that's not the case. And the NBA isn't going to do anything about this, so just let it go. Pretty much my take on it. Did he do something wrong? Yes. Does it really matter and is anything going to be done? No.
  2. Who here is saying that cheating is okay? f***ing hell guys. Saying "I really don't care" or "this isn't as big of a deal as you guys are making it out to be" isn't the same as "cheating is fine by me."
  3. QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ May 29, 2009 -> 03:33 PM) *Look around* Huh? Did I miss something? Why the f*** would BA be secondary to Wise at this point? Or are we just talking about a typical case of Ozzie being a dumbass? I just noticed you had me sig quoted... lol
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 29, 2009 -> 01:57 PM) As far as I know, Rose had nothing to do with that. He did have someone take the SAT for him, and if he's not bright enough to know that's wrong, he's not bright enough to attend college. I'm all for my alma mater (Iowa) winning, but I don't think it should be at any cost. When all the football players kept getting arrested, it was embarrassing. Putting up with Pierre Pierce because he might help you get into the tournament was embarrassing. When I was there and the wrestling team was winning NCAA title after title, being at party after party these guys showed up at and started fights every single time made me wonder if it was really worth having these morons on campus. College isn't for everyone. Just because you're exceptional at something athletically shouldn't make everyone ignore everything else. Meh obviously it was wrong. But it's like... so? And? What's going to happen, the NBA is supposed to suspend Rose or something?
  5. QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ May 29, 2009 -> 01:41 PM) Let's just hope he is not leading off.
  6. QUOTE (The Critic @ May 29, 2009 -> 01:47 PM) I can't help but wonder what this thread would look like if Derrick Rose was a Piston, Cavalier or Laker. I just don't have the time or energy to summon this well of phony self-righteous indignation when I hear of athletes doing unethical things. It's too common for me to give a s***. Call me when one of them commits a crime or hurts somebody else or does something otherwise has an obvious negative effect, then I'll care. Hell, I posted an article this morning about an NBA player saving this woman from drowning and nobody responded (yet), but people are on here blasting Rose because someone changed a D to a C... what's that say?
  7. I'm fine with Wise on the team as a 5th OF, but you know Ozzie sees him as much more than that.
  8. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ May 29, 2009 -> 11:13 AM) He cheated in high school. We've all done it, he just did it better than most. Good for him. Pretty much. brb going to steal from my job and go commit crimes
  9. QUOTE (Disco72 @ May 29, 2009 -> 10:53 AM) The "talk" is about a Value Added Tax (VAT) which much of the world uses, and it would replace a large part of the income tax structure that currently exists. For example, see this article in the Washington Post. If implemented correctly, it is a much simpler tax system. Oh that's more or less another way of saying "flat tax," not at all what it sounds like originally. The only thing different is the actual number.
  10. Y'all are acting like this is a paradigm shift or some s***. Yes, athletes are dumb, and they are coddled, and people do favors for them that are sometimes in the gray area of ethics at best. You guys are acting like you're just finding this out for the first time.
  11. lol... self-righeousness... awesome. Also, predictable.
  12. Positive story for a change... pretty bad ass. http://www.kcra.com/sports/19594781/detail.html
  13. I obviously disagree with the fact that he thinks waterboarding and such is the holy grail of intelligence, but Bush has been 100% class since leaving office. Unlike Cheney who somebody needs to muzzle. http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/05/29/geo...eech/index.html
  14. Uh how do you define "talk"? I mean I've heard "talk" that Bush wanted to bring back the draft, go to war with Iran before his term was up, etc. I've heard "talk" that Obama has a secret plan to enslave Americans and create secret police to stifle dissent. A 25% sales tax is just plain LMAO. Do you believe everything you read?
  15. Yeah I posted that in the GOP thread. Yet further proof that Bob Gates is awesome.
  16. QUOTE (rangercal @ May 28, 2009 -> 02:43 PM) I understand what you said. What would Nike's motives be for Lebron? I am assuming big market would be at the top of the list, which would obviously give NY the edge, but Chicago is not chopped liver. NY is obviously bigger than Chicago but you could make an argument about Chicago being a just as big, or maybe even bigger basketball market. Chicago is to basketball what Texas is to football. Hell, I tell friends from NYC that I've always wanted to go to a Knicks game at the Garden and several times, different people have told me they've always wanted to go to a Bulls game at the UC. Chicago is as major a basketball market as anywhere.
  17. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 28, 2009 -> 12:37 AM) That's obvious. But let's keep in mind that the Bulls were something like 30-0 in series in which they had the HC advantage during the Jordan era (I.E. they never lost to a team they shouldn't have lost to). And this isn't aimed at you, but I don't want to hear any of this crap of how all of a sudden Lebron doesn't have a supporting cast. You can play that card with D-Wade. The Cavs won 66 games. They went 39-2 at home. They won their first 8 playoff games by an average of 15 PPG or whatever it was. That wasn't all Lebron. Everything had been peaches and cream for them all season long. And when KG went down, it was all but assumed they had the east wrapped up. Now that they've been challenged, they've just about crumbled. And that falls on Lebron just as it does Mike Brown, their coaching staff and the other players. It's easy to look like a great leader when you're winning. True leadership comes when you can survive adversity, turmoil, ect. Doesn't look like Lebron is quite there yet. I know you weren't directing your comments at me, but for the record, I'm as staunch a Jordan defender as you are and find the comparisons just as laughable. I was just saying - LeBron's team really isn't much without him, something I didn't realize until this series.
  18. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ May 28, 2009 -> 04:24 PM) Very different scenarios, one was 18 fresh out of high school, and the other is 22 who played ball in college, a great conference at that. It is, but JFL posted some other examples earlier this morning I think, players that actually did go to college.
  19. It's just expecting way too much of him to call him up right now - even His Awesomeness Ken Griffey Jr. saw a few hundred ABs before getting called up (although I think he got hurt and delayed his callup, but still).
  20. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ May 28, 2009 -> 10:57 AM) An articulate, thoughtful view on the Sotomayor nomination and pending confirmation hearings from a leading Republican strategist; a breath of fresh air given the vitriol being spewed by the likes of Rush, Newt and Ann: http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/05/28/rol...ayor/index.html That's about par for Rollins, he is definitely a Republican and supports all the basic principles but he's never been one to get into the fistfights.
  21. Americans have an unfortunate tendency to see things from elsewhere the way we see them (or want to see in them), and make assumptions based off that. Usually, they're wrong.
  22. Here's my response to that: http://www.time.com/time/politics/article/...1901342,00.html
  23. I don't follow the Cubs that closely, but i didn't realize that Milton Bradley was such an epic failure so far. I knew it was a terrible signing but he only JUST got to .200 for the first time?
  24. QUOTE (kapkomet @ May 28, 2009 -> 02:22 AM) I didn't explain myself very well, lf. This is actually something I would like to expand on so that I can tie the point together. Maybe when I get back, unless I get some time while in Houston, but somehow I doubt it. I think I know what you're saying and what I'm trying to say. You're talking about judges, for lack of a better word, changing the actual meaning of the Constitution. That's not what I mean. I'll have to give examples and explain it better.
  25. If I use it in the Filibuster I might not be able to use it enough.
