  1. QUOTE (fathom @ May 30, 2009 -> 07:31 PM) Bloomquist hit what should have been a pretty routine fly to center, but Anderson was shaded way over to right and extremely shallow. Anderson made a big dive for it, but missed it. Stoney was critical of Anderson's jump. Yeah I figured it had to have been hit away from Anderson if it was a triple to center with him playing there. It's rare that he actually misplays a ball.
  2. QUOTE (High Mileage @ May 30, 2009 -> 05:30 PM) I hope so. The Nazi's over at WSI kept banning me for ridiculous reasons. Awesome. Yes, stay. There are several of us here for that reason.
  3. QUOTE (High Mileage @ May 30, 2009 -> 03:58 PM) He's been better than most people realize... Thanks! LOL. Thank you! HOLY s***, ERA+ of 535??? I knew he was good, but hot damn.
  4. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 29, 2009 -> 11:21 PM) Wieters=bust lol at the sarcasm, if only Wieters were a Sox prospect...
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 30, 2009 -> 03:10 PM) China would go apes*** given the past historical implications between them and Japan. They would take to actively arming NK to balance out the region IMO. Pretty much, and building nukes of their own, which means we'd start doing it again, which means the Russians would be pissed off and probably would overtly help Iran with theirs. All pretty much really bad stuff.
  6. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ May 30, 2009 -> 12:23 PM) I almost wonder if Japan should float around the idea that they may interested in aquiring nukes just to get China to force the issue a bit with North Korea. That wouldn't be the worst idea, but if Japan actually did suddenly come up with nukes (and this is the Japanese we're talking, it really wouldn't take that long) then that would f*** everything up. It'd probably tip the scales in our favor some in the short-term, but in the long term it's a game-changer and it'd probably push us to a new Cold War.
  7. QUOTE (mr_genius @ May 29, 2009 -> 08:20 PM) the Democrats were the ones talking about bringing back the draft. Charlie Rangel and his pals. That statement you quoted was pure sarcasm, talking about people who hear and believe ridiculous or partially true things or just repeat some s*** someone else made up. Even still, for all the wars some people advocate as "necessary" (syria, iran, pakistan, n. Korea etc) as if th us was really that invincible, there is no way to do all that without a draft. So it wouldn't surprise me that a dem was saying that, it was republicans (at the time) blowing all that hot air about endless military intervention.
  8. I'm going to save my irritation for when Ozzie actually does that, though. He's surprised me before and done the right thing, e.g. batting Getz leadoff, so I'll hold out hope on that.
  9. QUOTE (kapkomet @ May 29, 2009 -> 08:00 PM) The New Haven case. Meh either you agree with it on that affirmative action basis or you don't. People who agree with it defend it, people don't agree with it hate it. Again not a big deal or something that should be expected to be different.
  10. If she was a conservative Hispanic judge, and she had the same out-of-context quote mined in the same manner? The reaction would probably be pretty similar to what it is now. Gingrich et. al. are making it sound like she said "Latinas > old white crackers" which she did not. You'd probably have random liberal personalities doing the same thing if the shoe was on the other foot. Kinda pointless to talk about really.
  11. QUOTE (mr_genius @ May 29, 2009 -> 06:24 PM) Well, if I ever end up in court I will demand a judge that is Irish/German, from the southside of chicago, has an advanced degree in the mathematical sciences, and roots for the White Sox. No one else can understand my struggle. Kill whitey.
  12. Just stating for no reason in particular - Benchwarmerjim is cool peeps although I hate his team.
  13. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 29, 2009 -> 04:33 PM) I was definitely blaming KW/Oz, not DeWayne himself. I think Wise seems like a guy who works hard and just wants a chance, I have nothing against him personally. And obviously whomever plays, I hope they kick ass. He's just not the best option right now, IMO. I actually like Wise, I just hate having him on the team because of how Ozzie uses him.
  14. QUOTE (Cknolls @ May 27, 2009 -> 09:31 AM) I think the increased hostility fron NK. will go a long way in changing minds in Japan. btw if Japan does change their minds and gets nukes, China would have a full-blown s***-fit and this would start an Asian arms race.
  15. Tex, you've seen enough of my Facebook statuses, you know that swearing is my normal way of communication
  16. On the subject of Sotomayor and racism I really like this woman. She also wrote a great article a couple of weeks ago that convinced me to be tired of federal judges always getting nominated over the entire rest of the legal field (state judges and Supreme Courts, federal prosecutors, defense attorneys, politicians, etc.).
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 29, 2009 -> 05:50 PM) This nomination is really exposing the battle in the Republican side. On one hand, Limbaugh and Gingrich are out there saying she's a racist, she should withdraw her name, she's a reverse-david-duke, etc. On the other hand, John Cornyn, Michael Steele, and a few others are literally saying they're going to far and it really is going to hurt them long term. The battle lines between the people who'd like to win an election at some point in the next decade and the Limbaugh side really is flaring up hard over this nomination. It'll be interesting to see if Cornyn (head of the Republican Senate Campaign Committee, thus a guy who needs Limbaugh et al.'s help for fundraising) will be out apologizing and kowtowing soon, or if he stays the course on this one. None of the actual Republican elected officials, or people with an interest in one day holding office (except possibly Gingrich) have really said anything over the line because they know full well what the score of the game is. They criticize her pretty hard, but it's all on merit and political views. Saying something out-and-out racist towards Hispanics is just not what the Republican party needs to be doing so to their credit, they know it. The rest of the talking heads and general population of far-right loonies don't really see how they're hurting anything though.
  18. QUOTE (SoxFan101 @ May 29, 2009 -> 05:20 PM) Or just a poor tester? With his highschool gpa he needed a score of 900 plus to be elgible for division 1 schools, some of the smartest people i know are horrible test takers for one reason or another. For some reason I was thinking about this on my drive home from work for completely unrelated reasons, but I think that while some people are legitimately poor testers, more often than not people who claim this are just making excuses because they are stupid.
  19. QUOTE (Texsox @ May 29, 2009 -> 05:23 PM) Actually, to be accurate, what was done for him, was wrong. And it was wrong to him. While he may be a millionaire a couple times over, he was still an 18 year old kid at the time. Making him retake that course would have taught him a nice lesson. And sorry, I keep asking what to base grades on and so far no one has bothered to answer. As soon as that question is answered, it becomes apparent how wrong that is to the system. His grades were changed and the 15th player at Memphis, who was probably in the top 300* graduating seniors, gets bumped. You may call him a s***ty player, and that somehow justifies him getting screwed, but that seems like he's a pretty decent player to me. *15 scholarships on a college team. Four to freshman, Memphis seems like a top 75 program. Meh pretty much everyone agrees on the bolded part. It would really be redundant to attempt to answer the question which is why nobody has.
  20. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ May 29, 2009 -> 05:33 PM) I have this horrible thing called common sense, and I understand what/why it happened in the first place. Was it wrong? Yes of course, but I'm not gonna act like some holier-than-thou idiot like you and get all pissy over some dumb kid who's good at basketball being screwed out of playing when he was 18. He didn't get a f***ing degree in mechanical engineering, he played the system the way the NCAA/NBA has made it: they are not student athletes, they are free performers that bring in millions of dollars in profits and don't see a dime of it. Who gives a s***, getting angry over this "outrage" of cheating is the dumbest f***ing thing I've heard all day. That's really unnecessary - chill.
  21. QUOTE (Texsox @ May 29, 2009 -> 05:05 PM) What would you base the grades on then? ? I haven't addressed that anywhere and I already said 3 or 4 times that what Rose did was wrong.
  22. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 29, 2009 -> 04:43 PM) I've seen this criticism of flat, vat or sales taxes a lot. But it can be addressed quite easily, and in fact some states and localities do exactly that - the rate can be very low or zero on things like clothing, store-bought food, necessities like that, with higher rates against other items. This is done all over. Not really an obstacle, IMO. Never heard that idea, but on the same hand, what about exemptions for people with kids? Also, that seems like it would take out a pretty big chunk of revenue automatically.
  23. It would be regressive which is my biggest problem with any kind of flat or consumption tax. The higher your income, the less of your income you spend out of necessity (rent, utilities, food, clothing, car payment etc.), and it's probably close to 100% for most people. Which means the tax burden falls harder on the lower classes than anywhere else.
  24. QUOTE (Texsox @ May 29, 2009 -> 04:23 PM) Yes it matters. Because by doing nothing it means another player gets screwed out of a spot he worked for and earned when someone cheats his way and takes it away from him. Realistically, if you're as good as Derrick Rose is at basketball (or close to it), some program somewhere will find a way to have you playing. Is it right? No. But that's just how it is. The one who gets screwed out of a spot is the would-be last guy on the roste. But that would mean you're not really that good at basketball to begin with, so... tough s*** I guess. Life sucks, and it would be like that if said player made the pros, too.
