Taliban slowly taking more control of Pakistan
lostfan replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in The Filibuster
Even NK doesn't have those, they take years to develop and they're really expensive. But yeah compared to the major powers, both of those countries are relatively unsophisticated as far as delivery systems go. -
QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Apr 23, 2009 -> 12:07 PM) It's not that a pitcher has zero control exactly, but almost all pitchers are going to swing back to .300 or thereabouts for BABIP For instance, the aforementioned Gavin Floyd: http://www.fangraphs.com/graphs.aspx?playe...7&type=full I think Gavin will be fine despite a likely upswing from last year because I think his K:BB rate is going to improve (as it did in the second half of last year) vs. last year's totals. Right, I agree that there is no way that Danks is going to sustain a BABIP in the mid 100s. If he did he would have a WHIP of like .90 and lead the league in ERA by a full point.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Apr 23, 2009 -> 11:54 AM) The situation in Pakistan is quickly becoming one that is getting closer and closer to being a big mess. It's not even so much that Pakistan can't or won't do anything about it, it's that their leaders don't believe that it is that big of a problem. It's both. -
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Apr 23, 2009 -> 11:51 AM) I kinda see what he's saying. But that's a unique situation. Pakistan and India have long been at odds and if only one power had the bomb it could be a situation where the country was more aggressive and hostile towards the other. But, that isn't the case so it's just guesswork. That being said, Pakistan is slowly (picking up the pace though recently) becoming more and more regionalized internally amongst warlords and clans, and if that government ever topples, the fact that they and India both have the bomb could be cause for extra worry in that region. Pakistan never really was unified, it's always been less like a state and more like a confederation of independent tribes.

QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Apr 23, 2009 -> 11:32 AM) What does a gap have to do with it? That's what I'm not following. Large gap=strikeouts. Anyway, he had a BABIP of .295 last year--which is right around what is expected--so if he repeats last year's performance and perhaps improves on it a bit (his K rate is up a little) everyone will be happy. I don't think anyone is expecting him to keep up a .95 ERA. No, of course nobody sane expects him to keep up this pace. I just don't like when people bring up a pitcher's low BABIP as if the pitcher has zero control over what they can make the batter do when the ball goes into play (I really doubt that's what you were doing, it sounded like you were just saying his BABIP was impossibly low just like his ERA, so my bad if I wasn't clear on what I meant). A gap has more to with hitters, even still, if you suck you're going to have a low BABIP and if you're good it'll be high. I think that gets overlooked a lot.
-
QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Apr 23, 2009 -> 10:36 AM) I don't follow. I mean that when people cite BABIP they do it to show there's a fluke or what have you, like if their BABIP is really low then they must be lucky. But there is no significant gap between Danks's BABIP and his actual BAA so he must just be inducing those outs on his own, and it's not a fluke. I need to start a thread on this, I think BABIP is kind of a borderline useless stat most of the time because people cite it when they shouldn't (I'm not saying you did, I actually don't know what you were trying to say).
-
QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Apr 23, 2009 -> 10:09 AM) His BABIP is also .149 I'm not a big fan of BABIP as a stat, but his BAA is .138 so it doesn't appear that number is just luck.

QUOTE (shipps @ Apr 23, 2009 -> 09:44 AM) Did you get some of the fresh squeezed lemonade? Baltimore has the best I ever tasted. Last night was pretty chilly, not a big lemonade night.

QUOTE (TitoMB345 @ Apr 23, 2009 -> 12:22 AM) Wow no BA love? The guy is batting .276 with a .400 OBP and he gets no love. KEEP IT UP BRIAN! That was my first time ever seeing him play in person, Anderson is a big motherf***er. You can't really see this from TV. I couldn't get a read on his swings from where I was sitting, but you can really see how flawless his defense in CF is since you can see when he makes his jump and the distance he actually travels. By the time the TV camera is on him he's almost done moving most of the time.

I'm not participating in the annual "send the Red Sox and Yankees to the All-Star Game" event this year, quit for good last year when I saw Jerry Owens on the ballot in April (like I'm sure Wise is right now even though I haven't looked).

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Apr 22, 2009 -> 10:05 AM) Gotcha. Europe has a wonderful system. Speaking of which, airfare to Germany from Dallas ROUND TRIP is $360. If I were working, I would be there next weekend for a weekend trip with that kind of price. lol, not used to seeing you say this. QUOTE (Cknolls @ Apr 22, 2009 -> 12:14 PM) We can't even get Metra to run efficient train service (Heritage Corridor). 2 trains/dialy in and out is not good service. The problem is the big freight haulers, BNI CSX etc., own the right of ways. Until the gov't steps in and mandates some change on their part there will be no change in the service that is provided. And I'm not used to seeing you say this either.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 22, 2009 -> 06:07 PM) Glad to see all of that Bush administration arrogance is gone now... How is what she said arrogant though? I mean she gave a long and detailed response to his question, then when she said that the next thing was "he beat me in the primaries."

So I was going down I-895 today in Baltimore, past the industrial part it goes through where you can see a lot of the port activity. I've gone down there a couple dozen times but this is the first time I've been there in several months... there are thousands, maybe even hundreds of thousands of cars parked in numerous lots along the highway, because they have nowhere else to go. I've also heard that there are still cars in containers on ships because the lots are all full, and apparently it's been like this for several months now.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 22, 2009 -> 08:51 PM) aaaaaand... 23 minutes after this thread was started.... BAM! lol. Right on that pitch I said "come on Josh, now would be a nice time to show that power." 5 seconds later...

Man what a fun game. I love being able to watch the outfielders and judge their jumps on the ball, there is no substitute.

QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Apr 22, 2009 -> 08:03 PM) Stone said that Dotel greeted the president by hugging him. Heh. I wonder if the prez copped a feel of that sweet, sweet booty. Huh? Me and the guy next to me were trying to see who was warming up in the bullpen b/c we couldn't read jersey numbers, I was like "it's Dotel, you can see his ass from all the way over here." -
