  1. The reports said of the four offers received, the White Sox was the best. I don't really know how that happened. Is it because of his age? Possible injury issues?
  2. If this is true, UNBELIEVABLE i thought we had like one scout in Asia.
  3. At least most of it is hot-linked, otherwise i think soxtalk woulda crashed
  4. I saw that speech and thought it was pretty f***ed up before I heard anyone comment about it. I think most Americans capable of forming their own opinions would have to agree w/ me there.
  5. CS 293 Senior Project in CS CS 311 Database Systems CS 323 Operating Systems Design CS 333 Computer System Organization HIST 282 War, Military Institutions, and Society since 1815 (This will be my fun class) JAPAN 199 (Some BS 1 hour class for study abroad people)
  6. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,109018,00.html Scroll down under related video on the right and click on the Dean 'We will not give up' link to see the speech.
  7. http://www.nationalreview.com/script/print...00401200904.asp I think Howard Dean makes a good candidate as far as personalities go except for his occasional uncontrollable outbursts. It seems that his opponents have latched on to this potential weakness after his Iowa concession speech. If any of you saw it, it's where he starts naming states over and over, and over again. Today, I heard that someone at a press conference confronted him about his admitted emotional instability and that Dean lashed out at this 60+ year old man. I'm pretty sure this guy was planted but if Dean keeps blowing his top like this, it will severely derail his nomination hopes.
  8. Anyone who thinks the Democratic party, in its current state, can beat Bush in November is seriously deluded. The anti-war and pro-war democrats are currently far too divided over this pressing issue to really put anything together in terms of party solidarity in an election. I'm not the biggest Bush fan but he's currently got the wind of a strengthening economy in his sails.
  9. I would be a Sox fan but only for a while. After a few years, the players would all start to move on or get traded and I would have very little left in the White Sox organization that I could really root for. I think eventually the team would change its name too like the Tennessee Oilers -> Titans. They'd probably do something silly like win a pennant too.
  10. Nothing beats a good flossing IMO
  11. I usually don't except when I look at the stock market. George W. Bush has been very good for the stock market erasing capital dividends taxes and leaving interest rates at all-time lows. No matter who the Democrat nominee is, you can bet that if he ousts George W. Bush, the market will probably go back into at least a quarterly recession. Then again, newly elected presidents tend to avoid raising taxes immediately upon entering office. Either way, Greenspan will be raising rates very soon.
  12. The IRA have not been recognized by the US as a terrorist group since the year 2000. They have made advances in establishing political legitimacy for themselves as a separatist group despite their acronym which calls themselves an "army". The Sinn Fein now speaks for most of the IRA and terrorist practices are now carried out officially by splinter organizations. They are the Quebecois with an armed militia. Oh and where is the ignore button? I don't see it.
  13. The Daily Show was saying that Howard Dean was running for nomination against "a Jew, a black man, and an elf". I wasn't sure but I think the elf was Kucinich. Just wondering why.
  14. From http://news.indiainfo.com/2004/01/05/0501outsource.html I am currently a Computer Science major at the University of Illinois. An alarming trend in the industry is the massive outsourcing of jobs to foreigners, primarily Indians. As someone who will be entering this field as a prospective employee in another year or so, it worries me how quickly these jobs are being snatched up. In the beginning, American companies like Hewlett Packard and Intel actually brought Indians to this country to educate them on H1B visas. Now Indians are being employed in call centers and other factories overseas taking countless jobs away from American employees. These people in India work for a fraction of the salary of Americans and usually have earned Masters degrees in two or three years. Morally, I am torn between calling for government restrictions to outsourcing and allowing this to continue unhindered. As a costcutting move, this makes sense for all the corporations but where do we draw a line?
  15. I thought this thread was going to be about http://maddox.xmission.com when i clicked on it. Let's just say I am now disappointed.
  16. Just be sure they are women first
  17. The Atheists and Muslims are two of many reasons why faith-based programs can not work fairly in this country. I think a secular government should outlaw religious pandering through incentives that use words like "faith" all over them just to gain support. There are other ways to go about giving money to the people.
  18. The highest I got was a 48% for Dean, lowest is a 15 for Kucinich. Guess I have to write in someone else this year. I seem to match the Republican platform well enough, but not the current representative of their party. Another good selection site is http://www.selectsmart.com
  19. I heard on the radio that this recent Space Race speech is Bush's attempt to avoid the fate of his father a decade ago. Bush Sr. was labelled by many as lacking vision and long-term goals. To this end, it seems like W. has gone to the extremes and looked to historical examples of presidents with long-term vision. What better way for him to attempt to distinguish himself than to plan out the next decade and beyond of the United States space program.
  20. I have a ton of Taco Bell sauce in all three varieties and some of that Dusseldorf Mustard that you can ONLY get at White Castle. Isn't that worth anything?
  21. Here is my plug for Tutor.com. A friend showed me this site. Basically you get paid to sit at home at your computer and tutor kids over the internet. I forgot my exact wages but I get about $6/hour when I'm "on standby" and I think $8 when I'm in session. This is a good supplemental income but some weeks it's really tough to get alot of hours.
  22. From The New York Times, 1/14/04: http://www.nytimes.com/2004/01/14/politics.../14MARR.html?hp How does this cost 1.5 billion dollars? Sometimes I think the government just thinks we won't notice things like this.
