QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Jan 7, 2012 -> 02:27 AM) BA updated their transactions, no real losses for the Sox with their latest round of releases: - RHP Jamaal Hollis - RHP Sam Phippen - Stephen Sauer - Justin Edwards - 2B Drew Lee They also signed 3B Corey Smith; career minor leaguer. Edwards was a pretty high draft pick, Sauer had one really good season, though he might turn into something.

QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Dec 20, 2011 -> 09:14 PM) I am saying that could be, not that it will be, his potential if he reaches the major. Isn't that part of evaluating prospects? Projecting what they would be at the majors? Evaluating prospects is all inclusive, not just "if he makes it to the majors he'll do this or that". Obviously Kevan Smith could hit 290 with 20hrs a year, but the odds of that happening are very slim, we'd be lucky if he even makes it to the majors in a backup role. You're talking about a borderline all star catcher, that is his ceiling, not his likely outcome

QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Dec 20, 2011 -> 12:45 PM) Personally, I can see him being a .290 hitter, 20+ HRs, and has decent eye at the plate. That would be great but thats a pretty generous evaluation for someone who's played a half season of rookie ball. I think we'd be lucky if he ever even makes it to the majors.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 12, 2011 -> 11:53 AM) Where have I heard this name before? You're thinking of Eric Stoltz, he played Rocky in the movie Mask with Cher in it. Pretty sweet pic, he had that elephant man face and all, he was also in Pulp Fiction which was a good film too.

Dunn was awful but going forward I'll take him over Crawford for a couple reasons. 1. New league, new pitchers etc... 2. His deal is shorter for less money 3. Crawford's game is mostly based around his athleticism and he is getting older. There is a better chance that his game continues its decline while Dunn could very possibly have a bounce back season. I'll at least say that it's more likely Dunn will bounce back next year. At least we know that he couldn't be any worse. Just for this season Dunn was obviously the worst, but I'll still take him over Crawford or Werth for that matter going forward.

QUOTE (thedoctor @ Oct 2, 2011 -> 04:40 PM) van dyck talks to maddon, martinez about sox job Sounded like he was interviewing for the job in the article explaining all the ways that he'd be an awesome coach and all the reasons that he'd want to coach in chicago specifically.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 1, 2011 -> 07:28 PM) I don't mean to flame, but why would a hot prospect like Martinez pick Chicago when he's got KW as GM and Dunn/Rios/Peavy problem hamering the ability to acquire guys who can uh, play the game? Why wouldn't good managers wait for a better situation? Sox job isn't really attractive with KW supplying the players IMO. Id say that it wouldn't be a bad job for a couple of reasons, 1. It's a team with great history and is in a big market 2. The team isn't afraid to spend some money to try to compete (Im not saying that you have to spend money to compete but its nice that the owner is willing to open up the pocket book as opposed to the A's, Marlins, et al..) 3. If you become one of Jerry's "guys" he is loyal to the ends of the earth, it is really nice to know that the boss has your back at all times. For those of you who have worked for a s***ty boss who'll throw you under the bus at any moment you can understand why this is a really nice thing. I'm not saying that the Sox are a great landing spot or anything but just playing devil's advocate, those are the reasons that I personally would want to coach the chi sox

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 1, 2011 -> 01:45 PM) If the Sox hired Martinez, do you think he'd bring in Sandberg to be the bench coach? Id love that just to see all the cubs fans weep that sandberg is coaching for the enemy

I was a David Cook fan but probably Chris Carter and/or Brandon Allen. Thought that one of the two would have taken over for a broken down Pauly by this season with PK playing spot duty, DHing and providing veteran leadership.

QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Aug 21, 2011 -> 04:46 PM) Saladino a double shy of the cycle. In ~350 ABs he has 43 XBH. If he cuts down on his K totals just a bit...watch out. His K's have gone down as the season has progressed. He started the season with a wrist or hand injury I believe and was striking out a lot but he has progressively gotten better in the K department. Right now he has a k rate of about 23% which isn't horrible, ideally he'll get it down under 20% which is a number I can live with, especially considering how much power he hits for and the fact that he has a decent BB rate too.

Blair Walters is an interesting prospect so far. He's only 21, a lefty has a 6-0 record, 2.57 ERA 45K 7BB in 42IP with a good GB/FO ratio. Anyone have a scouting report on him??? Edit- Just found a quick blurb on him that said his FB is low 90's with heavy sink but his secondary stuff needs work.

Walker already has a hit a BB and a SB.

QUOTE (oldsox @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 08:13 AM) Will someone please tell me why Smith going from Bristol to G Falls is a big deal? I was unaware that this thread was reserved for ground breaking news only.

Kevan Smith moved to Great Falls

Sounds a hell of a lot better than anything we've got in the high minors.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jul 17, 2011 -> 01:40 PM) I hope they start fielding calls for Ramirez. Sell high before being stuck with another bad contract. One of the best fielding, best hitting SS in all of baseball who is signed to a team friendly contract for another 4 years and has only gotten better each year he's been in the bigs, yeah we better dump on the first team that offers us a bag of balls.

QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Jul 10, 2011 -> 06:13 PM) Why is Shoemaker still at Kanny? Really irritating, especially with KW Jr.. taking up a roster spot at Birmingham which he has done nothing to earn. Shoemaker isn't a prospect, way too old for the level he's playing at, that isn't to say that KW2 is a prospect. Also, Shoemaker's father isn't the GM of the Sox, if he was, then Shoemaker would probably be taking up a spot in B ham

make that 1-1 with 2 BBs and a single

QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 03:00 PM) Charlotte is facing Teheran tonight. Should be a nice test for Viciedo. 0-0 with 2BB's so far
