GAME THREAD: 4/8, CLE v CHW, 7:10pm CSN+
bighurt4life replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in 2010 Season in Review
Choo has been getting pwned this series -
Dan will be starting the season in Charlotte so he can get regular playing time and enough innings. He'll be called up to the big club eventually, just a matter of time and clearing a spot in the rotation for him. I suppose it all depends on the performance of Freddy G. I'll also be interested to see how he follows up last year's meteoric rise through the Sox' farm system.
-
O'Neil will start the season repeating low-a in Kannapolis this season.
-
Josh saw very limited action in spring training with the big club this year doing nothing to really to distinguish himself and will be starting the season in Winston-Salem.

QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Apr 2, 2010 -> 03:48 PM) That is it. It's been confirmed now http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/news/ar...sp&sid=t580 They have an impressive group of pitchers with Infante, Griffith, Jones, Hunt, Remenowsky, Leesman, Rodriguez, Edwards, and Sauer. That will be a fun group of players to track over the next year or two, always interesting to see which ones will flame out and who will take the necessary steps forward. I would think that a couple of those guys will be knocking on the door by the end of 2011. -

Drew O'neil in Kanny for second straight season, that's too bad, at his age he needs to be progressing. Not surprised that Dubler is behing Miguel Gonzalez at this point, he hasn't done crap in two seasons. -

QUOTE (scenario @ Mar 27, 2010 -> 01:20 PM) Nah... they're just practicing freaking out... building up their stamina... working on their freak-out techniques. that's funny. maybe people are working on some new rants, trying to tighten up their whole approach to freaking out when the team has a couple bad games in a row.

QUOTE (scenario @ Mar 27, 2010 -> 05:30 PM) Gordon Beckham and Dan Hudson say hello. I will second that thought. In addition to those two, and this has been said before but i'll say it again, we have taken our "inferior" quality of prospects and turned them into valuable pieces time and time again, Jake Peavy being the most recent of those pieces. We moved a first round pick, a fifth rounder, and a 13th round pick to get an #1, cy young caliber starter. that's not too bad. In comparison, the mariners had to gut their system giving up Jones, Tillman, and George Sherrill for Eric Bedard, who is nowhere near the talent that Jake Peavy is (even pre-injury I'd take Peavy over Bedard any day of the week)

QUOTE (chw42 @ Mar 26, 2010 -> 10:49 AM) I don't know why, but when I go up to hit, I usually end up pulling my head off the ball. But if I'm swinging in any other situation, I can keep my head still. I think it's a mental thing. This started about 5 years ago. Before that, I had really good hitting mechanics. your mechanics are garbage and everyone knows it!

No first basemen, that worries me with PK aging in front of our eyes, (no more of the late 30's career resurgences since the roid testing started) Tell me again why we traded chris carter and brandon allen.

QUOTE (chisoxfan09 @ Mar 20, 2010 -> 12:34 AM) Not to mention 3/4 of that contract spent already His 10m contract was for 4 yrs i believe but when he makes it to the majors we still have him for several arbitration years so it's not like he's just gone after those 4 yrs are over.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 18, 2010 -> 11:14 AM) And his first month away from home, in a place where he doesn't speak the language, or understand the culture. I would suspect that the game is played differently in the US than in Cuba as well. All in all there were a LOT of adjustments that he had to make in his transition to the US, and his performance in May-Sept is probably much more indicative of his abilities than his April numbers, especially considering the sample size.

QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Mar 18, 2010 -> 02:41 AM) Close, but the holy grail is a robby alomar authentic or perhaps a lance johnson. Nevermind, I found the real deal right here. Whomever ends up buying this, please let us know. http://cgi.ebay.com/GAME-USED-White-Sox-JO...=item2c538722b2

QUOTE (SnB @ Mar 17, 2010 -> 10:30 AM) I think the holy grail right now would be a darin erstad jersey. Close, but the holy grail is a robby alomar authentic or perhaps a lance johnson.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Mar 14, 2010 -> 02:05 PM) I think he has a pretty nice slider to back up his fastball. I would disagree with this somewhat. He does have a slider but it doesn't really have much movement, although breaking pitches don't move much in AZ b/c of the thin air. We'll probably see what he's got in april but i don't have a lot of hope for him succeeding out of the pen w/o a reliable 2nd pitch.

QUOTE (chisoxfan09 @ Mar 12, 2010 -> 10:04 PM) I am no expert Danman so just askin for anyone´s opinion. If the tendon is artificially reattached does that make it more susecptable to re-injury? This really really bites. The kid has so many tools. no it does not make it more susceptible to re-injury. They will drill into the bone and set a screw into the new tendon fibers that the bone will grow around the screw. It will be in there for sure, a lot of times the replacement ligament is even stronger that the old one but who knows. As far as him getting back to 100% that's a crap shoot, we'll just have to see if he's a good healer or not. Some people heal very quickly and are just fine after an injury and some people are plagued by them the rest of their lives. (i know all this b/c I had to get a new ACL last winter along with several other procedures)
-
QUOTE (Reddy @ Mar 12, 2010 -> 08:24 PM) you know a tibia is a bone right, and cannot be torn. could be a tibial tendon. If it's torn off at the bone they can probably re anchor it, if not they will have to pull part of his hamstring out or even use a cadaver tendon to re attach it although cadaver parts can be rejected sometimes.

Im not sure if Santos is ready to hold down a spot in the bigs just yet, he does have a great FB but really nothing else. I watched him pitch a couple of innings so far and all he seems to have is a pretty weak slider to go with an explosive FB that he can't control yet. Big time arm or not, he isn't a mlb quality reliever yet.

QUOTE (striker @ Mar 10, 2010 -> 09:10 PM) Makes me want to keep Pierzynski and trade Flowers or move him to 1B. Makes me want Flowers to apprentice behind AJ for a couple of years. We've been quite spoiled for several years with AJ behind the plate, but I remember how much our pitching improved as soon as we signed him.
-
ugh, that was a good read but it was depressing for a prospect geek like me. i'd be surprised if we don't overdraft some LHP's in the draft this season with how thin our organizational depth is in that area. On a side note, didn't Edwards have tommy john surgery in 08? if so it usually takes more than a full season to come back from that type of procedure and we should see what he's really got this year. maybe something to look forward to.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 26, 2010 -> 06:11 AM) It's not the greatest list ever (They have a lot of guys who are gone still listed as Sox, trades don't seem to have registered with them), but come on, you know you want to look at the top 2000 prospects for 2010 Pretty good list but I think that they should reconsider 1417. Rafael Dolis, P, CHC and, 1418. Maurice Gartrell, OF, CHW. IMO they should at least swap these two guys. Gartrell doesn't have the ceiling but has a lower floor, but good list overall. -
QUOTE (flavum @ Feb 26, 2010 -> 09:45 AM) http://twitter.com/Schumouse/status/9687842728 Gee, ya think? as opposed to the 26 games he played for cinci in 98?
-
I'm very excited about Gonzalez. I've been following him since he played on the DSL teams and was really looking forward to seeing what he could do in the states. He hasn't disappointed so far and could potentially be the first true dual-threat behind the plate for the sox since the days of Fisk.
-
I think that the key difference b/t the sox and the tigers/royals rotations is that all of our guys are proven commodities at this point more or less. The tigers need to have porcello show that he wasn't a one year wonder who got the benefit of some lucky bounces being that he's a contact pitcher and they need scherzer to show that he can handle the AL ( which i personally don't think he can) the royals need hochevar to do something that he's never done and that is pitch an entire season at a high level. on the other hand, we have buerhle who i don't need to say anything about his ability, and then danks and floyd who have both put together very good back to back seasons and are only getting better. there you have 3 proven starters not including peavy (whose ability i really don't have any concerns about). that's a pretty damn good front 4, and all they need to do to put up good numbers is perform at about their career averages, we don't need any big jumps in performance to have success out of them. I'll take that any day of the week over whatever potential the tigers/royals rotations have.
