  1. QUOTE (forrestg @ Dec 29, 2008 -> 06:13 PM) For one reason last year was so great nobody expected much from us.. Quentin who was said to have a high ceiling but less than stellar numbers the past 2 partial seasons excelled. Alexei who was signed but by most assumptions would start at 3A had a great rookie season.. I would like to think that KW doesn't like to sign great players they become great after he signs them. And what about Orlando Cabrera and Nick Swisher? Kenny pulled some triggers last year that made us at least question the possibility..Kenny has always been a win now type of GM. In my eyes there is no reason whatsoever to change now after 7-8 years of the same style. It brought us a championship and 3 division titles. His track record is not good when he resorts to this idea. In 2007 we went 72-90. The only off season moves we made were Darin Erstad, Gavin Floyd, John Danks, and Nick Massett. 3 young guys and a washed up vet. Floyd, Danks, and Massett couldn't be counted on to win 15-17 games because they were young unproven players. Now this offseason we have acquired about 5 young guys. Only 2-3 have a shot at major league level, and again who knows what will happen. This offseason just totally reminds me of 2007 and we all know the outcome!
  2. We should change this post to Obsessed with the lack of off-season moves. I am really growing angrier and angrier with this. I am getting impatient by the day with Kenny not doing crap! I just don't understand how a team who wins the division in the coolest fashion, just lays down and rolls over the next...
  3. Well all I can say is what happens after next year when we average 18,000 a game? Hell we mind as well relocate this team to Montreal. I check this darn thing every day just like everyone else and get disappointed like everyone else. I think I will be negative just for them to prove me wrong. I think for me the one move and only move I really like is this Tyler Flowers kid. He could be a stud..other than that Bears need a win tonight!
  4. On paper this team is projected to lose 100 games, honestly. I think everyone can agree that if the Sox make no more moves, then that'll probably happen. I still believe that there are some bargains on the free agent market the Sox could get. Wily Taveras is still one guy that'll help this team as a role player. I now have this feeling that Konerko may go to the Angels. They have wanted him since 2005.. It's all kind of weird the Angels pulled out and maybe have something up their sleeves for Konerko. Figgins or Kendrick would be a great addition! Yes that leaves a whole at first, but I'd rather add a couple proven young guys than unproven. Salary they still are cheap...We could always go with Dye or Fields at first. Didn't Josh play a little first back in the day or am I losing my mind? This team has to do something because that depth chart looks like poop. I mean seriously KC looks better than us right now.
  5. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 22, 2008 -> 04:39 PM) He hasn't been given a chance yet. Yeah he has! What happened in 2006? Didn't he barely hit over .200?
  6. Yeah it has been a very interesting offseason to this point. Besides the Yankees and Mets...
  7. No No No...Garland is on the decline and has no place on this team. I'd rather see what Marquez/Richard/Poreda could do. Garland thanks for the memories in 2005!
  8. QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 19, 2008 -> 02:10 AM) Get me Dunn and McLouth. Now. Ok Greg you want a guy in Dunn who strikes out 200 times a year and a guy in McLouth who had relatively one good season. I don't get why people are so high on Dunn when all he does is strike out 3 times a game and hit one long solo homer. This is not what the Whitesox need because we already have it. Can anyone say Jim Thome?
  9. My 2 hitter will be Konerko! J/K I am going to say Lillibridge or Getz
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 16, 2008 -> 07:26 PM) Just like my belief to this day that Valentin was a better defender than Royce Clayton. Same type of argument. Jose, Jose, Jose, Jose...Jose, Jose! I miss those homers to right and his rocket throws! Oh by the way, Royce Clayton was one of the worst shortstops in whitesox history. He does remind me a lot of cabrera except the fact that Royce could not hit!
  11. Here's what i got CF Taveras 2B Lillibridge LF Quentin RF Abreu DH Thome 1B Konerko C AJ SS Ramirez 3B Viciedo P Buehrle P Danks P Floyd P Bailey P Poreda I know that pitching staff is scary good, right?
  12. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Dec 15, 2008 -> 12:51 PM) AJP better not be batting 2nd again. His OBP is horrendous, which is what you need in front of Q. Now if Abreu is acquired after a Dye trade, along with Taveras, your lineup looks like this: Willy T CF Abreu LF Q RF Thome DH Konerko 1B Ramirez SS AJP Fields Getz OR if Getz performs like an ideal #2 and changes Ozzie's mind: Willy T Getz Q Abreu Konerko Thome Alexei AJP Fields Now urs I would like. That first one would be disgusting! We may lose 100 games!
  13. I'll take Wily T in a heartbeat! That's all I have to say about that
  14. This team HAS to do something. I mean if they go out there with this team on the field, then there is no reason whatsoever to show support. I am very interested to see what Sox Fest will be like considering this current budget status. I just don't get how we win a division and then practically spend 0 dollars the following offseason. We have so many holes right now and I know we won't fill them all. If we trade Dye to clear some room for a pitcher and outfielder, then fine. But trading a guy to get some unproven rookies in here doesn't do much for this franchise. They should of done this after 2007 with that 90 loss season. Not after winning a division and making some noise last offseason. I just don't get it and I am not blaming the economy for us cutting the budget. I really was thrown off when Kenny said in the interview the other day that he doesn't know what the fan support will be like. He hopes they will support. That is a sign of being desperate and sending fans a message.
  15. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Dec 12, 2008 -> 09:31 AM) No problem, I am an attorney, so I can do some damage control if you need it!! Yeah, a few of those deals are coming back to bite them. That Soriano deal is god-awful, that will do some serious ass-biting in its last year or two. Although it would be somewhat better if they get a legit leadoff guy and drop him in the order, still bad, but a little better I am an attorney as well! 1 year going strong..Go Sox!
  16. Free-agent outfielder Raul Ibanez has reached preliminary agreement with the Phillies on a three-year, $30 million contract, according to ESPN.com and FOX Sports. The deal, pending a physical, was reached early Friday morning. The Mets, Cubs, Nationals and Angels also were interested in Ibanez, who batted .293 with 23 homers and 110 RBIs last season for the Mariners while playing his home games at pitcher-friendly Safeco Field. Per Mlb.com
  17. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 11, 2008 -> 04:20 PM) You ever think that "letting go" of Marquis might be hard because he comes with a huge contract? Someone delete this pointless thread. Steve you make no sense. The deal included Marquis so they would be getting rid of his huge contract. Trading and letting go are different.
  18. This team definitely needs one or two starters! I was o.k. with trading Vazquez, but I have to admit it throws off our whole rotation. But if you look at out division, the only rotation that scares me a little is Cleveland. They still got Carmona, Westbrook back after injury, of course Lee, and now add Wood to their bullpen.
  19. QUOTE (BamaDoc @ Dec 11, 2008 -> 01:49 PM) If Angels lose out on Texiera.... Jenks + Konerko + Brian Anderson for Figgins + Wilits + Weaver I think they will and will be desperate for a 1st baseman! I still think Texiera ends up with Boston or New York, possibly Washington (where the hell did they get that money?) . I don't think that is enough to land all those guys, but I do believe a Jenks plus Konerko deal lands us at least Figgins and maybe Escobar/young prospect.
  20. I'll toss almost anyone out of the pen for him. Pick him up please! We have had decent luck with pitchers coming off injury plagued seasons. Dotel was a big example of that last year. I think that was the first full season he pitched in like 4 years.
  21. Owens hasn't had enough major league experience yet for anyone to really judge. The 30 steals was pretty impressive 2 years ago, so who knows really? But yeah if we could bat him 9th, by far he would be an upgrade over Swish and Anderson, I believe! I really want Abreu and I still strongly believe Dye will be traded. Abreu at the Cell would be an upgrade offensively over Dye because he adds some speed. I say trade Dye, sign Abreu and put him in left, obtain Bailey, sign Furcal. This would be one hell of a offseason. Big difference in that lineup. Furcal Abreu Quentin Thome Konerko Pierzynski Fields/Betemit Ramirez Owens We would be a faster team.Dye's salary allows us to sign Furcal and the 17 mill left over allows us to sign Abreu.
  22. Agent Paul Kinzer said the Dodgers, Blue Jays, Royals and A's are the four teams still in the mix for Rafael Furcal. The Jays and Royals wouldn't seem to have the money, but they'd do what they could to come up with it. "Toronto and Kansas City told me the only guy they would go to ownership for is Furcal," Kinzer said. "They're serious." Absent from the list are the Indians. Dec. 9 - 7:09 pm et No Whitesox? "Frown"
  23. QUOTE (MO2005 @ Dec 10, 2008 -> 03:22 PM) Who are the Cubs and who are Cubs fans? I've never heard of them before...I only pay attention to one team and that is my Whitesox. Sorry! And I thought this was Soxtalk? This is a speechless quote, right?
