O's @ Sox 8-22 6:05 WGN
QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Aug 22, 2009 -> 07:01 PM) Then who's going to do the color with Farmer? Farmer often likes to refer to that DJ's single MLB pitching outing. 3 hits, 2 walks, 2 runs in 2 IP.

Wow. Great job. I hope he's ok, but DJ is going to have to come in.

I don't think that a circulatory issue is really that easy to just take care of with a DL trip.

This is really bad.

Stone Pony has pointed out that it is a cool night and Dank is sticking his pitching hand in his back pocket. He thinks that Danks is being bothered by the circulatory issue.

I've been put into a coma by Hawk's inane ramblings about long term contracts and the DL. The other day he was railing against full NTCs. Doesn't MB have something that approaches a full NTC?

Beckham whiffed or fouled off a couple of meaty pitches.

Brandon Allen
QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Aug 22, 2009 -> 02:38 PM) Allen has been called up to the D'backs. He's also starting tonight. GIDP in his first AB.

Fields playing worse in Minors than in the Majors
QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Aug 21, 2009 -> 11:39 AM) Depressing seeing this thread title keep coming up Guess I'm about to bump it though.. It's not really depressing now that the thread title is no longer accurate.

Alexei
It's a fairly small sample size, but UZR suggests that Alexei is a below average second baseman and an average shortstop.

Are we really one of the 4-5 best teams in MLB?

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 19, 2009 -> 01:35 PM) Productive out by Alexei. Moves the runner to 3rd. 1 out. According to Gameday it was the second out. Quentin fly-out was the first.

Steve Stone suggested that Jose probably knows that he is ineffective when dropping down, but likely does not trust his back enough to go over the top for the whole game.

How old is this guy? Will he at least do well through the first 2 or 3 innings? Hopefully so. I was hoping that the White Sox would bring up Hudson for this game, then pitch him again on regular rest 8/24 against Boston. Then the Sox could pick their poison between Freddy and Jose for the next game rather than having to throw them both in Fenway.

Excellent Jayson Stark Piece - Must Read RE: Draft
Why compare Strasburg's contract to what RJ, Pedro, and Smoltz make? They're all broken down and/or are only playing part of the season. He's also making more than Bob Gibson, Sandy Koufax, and Cy Young will or did make.

8/18 - Sox vs. Kansas City 7:11pm CDT - CSN
QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 09:38 PM) What did Ramirez f*** up earlier in the game? He hit a pop-up to second. He jogged to first, then rounded the base. Callaspo dropped it, but Alexei was caught in no man's land and got caught in a run down.

Just some expressions he made before the next pitch. Detroit with 1 on, no out.

I think that Freddy may have hurt himself on that throw to first.

Why Chris Getz Injury Is Good for the Sox
QUOTE (WCSox @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 06:10 PM) Jayson Nix is 28 years old and didn't play a single major-league game until last season. 26. 27 in a few days. Saying that he did not play a game in the major leagues until he was 25 is not a big knock.

Michael Vick Talk
My guess is that people can see themselves driving drunk, but can not see themselves torturing dogs. They consider themselves good people and thus torturing dogs must be worse.

Freddy is starting.
QUOTE (WCSox @ Aug 16, 2009 -> 12:16 AM) Given that Freddy had a history of pitching to the level of his competition, my guess is that his numbers against the Royals were less than spectacular. Of course, he wasn't trying to salvage his career back then. "Junkball Freddy" had some pretty solid outings back in 2006 and had an overall WHIP of 1.28. That ain't bad for a #5, and I think there's a pretty good chance that he could take Jose's place in the rotation. Bad. Real bad. 1.61 WHIP and a 6.12 ERA in 132 innings. I believe the announcers the other day mentioned that Freddy has previously stated that he gets bored pitching against a team like the Royals. Hopefully for his first game back he'll have his juices flowing.
