They said he'd have to mix in his breaking ball to get back to the starting rotation. By all accounts, he was almost exclusively using his fastball during this Charlotte start. His ERA this year is deceptive. I give the guy credit for battling and hitting his spots with his fastball, but I don't think he has much left. Do you think Poreda is going to develop a pitch between now and next year? Seems doubtful. Let's see how his stuff works in a starter's role now. Whee.

In a small sample size Poreda has excellent major league numbers (including peripherals). I don't know if he has the repetoire to be a ML starter at this point, but he has earned the chance imo.

FWIW, his UZR/150, after starting off below average this year, has been climbing towards his 2006 number.

Romero (TOR) is the most deserving so far.

With runners on .285 for Kong and .284 for Big Jim. Runners on = larger sample size than RISP. I dunno--for power hitters it seems like a better stat to me.

Although he is not playing every day, Castillo now has a 9 game hitting streak. He OPSed .821 in June.
