I feel like the reviews for The Force Awakens were pretty great too, and then after everything calmed down the tone seemed to be "Yeah, it was fine". I still loved TFA, but it seemed to fall out of favor once the mass audience saw and digested it.

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 12:37 PM) Both Cameron and Sawchik on Fangraphs mentioned us as a possible trade partner for the Yankees to dump Ellsbury to buy a prospect like Frazier or Sheffield. Not that big a fan of that idea however. EDIT: Didn't see that this idea was already posted in the Frazier thread. I would take him on if it means getting a nice prospect like Frazier or Sheffield and SOME cash relief. Maybe like $15M thrown in. He has 3 years left on his deal, but money shouldn't be an issue any of those years.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 03:28 AM) I would think any White Sox fan would absolutely take the 21 year old, former top 5 BA prospect, left handed hitting upside power hitter who many feel was a bit rushed last year and still more than held his own at the show. (quality over quantity IMO. Doubt Abreu nets any prospect as good as Devers) I doubt Boston does that, but hey.. maybe Dombrowski is feelin the heat by the Red Sox ownership and wants to answer that Stanton deal.. can only dream. I told him I probably would, given the years of control and ages, but hitching all your value in a trade of your top player for 1 prospect does seem a bit risky. I guess a lot of it would also depend on how the Red Sox view Chavis, if they think he could be a potential summer call up or if they would need a stop-gap for a year. Although I guess if they want to add power to their line-up, moving Devers would only hurt that particular aspect.

Someone at work asked me if I would take Rafael Devers for Abreu straight up. I thought it was an interesting question.

QUOTE (Tony @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 12:49 AM) That’s not the discussion here. I understand both sides of the Abreu/Garcia issue. I actually want to keep Abreu. My issue is the idea that the Sox shouldn’t trade Abreu and/or Avi to teams within the division or other contending AL teams. The LAST thing the Sox shouldn’t be doing is limiting their market if they choose to trade either player. Yes

QUOTE (Tony @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 12:12 AM) Most everyone agrees 2020 is when the Sox "window of contention" will begin. Both Abreu and Garcia would have reached FA by then. Could they have re-signed with that team? Possibly, but the odds certainly aren't high enough to limit trading them and not receiving the best possible package possible. Your logic doesn't add up here. The argument for keeping Abreu is to help with the development and mentoring of young players as a leader. Doesn't mean he isn't tradeable, but at least I understand he has value outside of his performance on the field. Avi though? Hell yeah, see what you can get for him.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 11, 2017 -> 03:47 PM) I really don’t think Carlos Sanchez will be on the White Sox 72 hours from now. A lot of teams are looking for 2B and Sanchez is probably one of the more attractive options. So teams that need a 2B may be.... Yankees, Angels, and Reds? I have a hard time imaging what Yolmer's value might be, but let's say he is a 2-3 WAR type guy now, who can play all infield positions... maybe something like To Yankees for: RHP Jorge Guzman (#7) and OF Billy McKinney (#14) To Angels for: OF Brandon Marsh (#6) and LHP Cole Duensing (#19) To Reds for: C Tyler Stephenson (#8) and OF Jose Siri (#22) Just a little note on Reds OF Jose Siri. Baseball America ranked him as the Reds best power prospect, best athlete, fastest baserunner, and best OF arm. MLB.com ranks him as #22, but BA has him as #7. He hit .293 with 24 HR and 46 SB in A-ball as a 21-year-old. This dude intrigues the hell out of me.

Cale Coshow. Do it.

https://www.baseballamerica.com/minors/2017...KvuhBkDuqjUZ.97 Cale Coshow seems like a real fine Rule 5 pick for us.

I'm only in 1 league. Ended up with the #1 seed and highest Points For. Made what I thought was a really savy trade of Ezekiel Elliott and Marcus Mariota for Tom Brady (It's a 1-player keeper league, and I have Antonio Brown as well). But of course, Tom Brady s*** the bed last week with only 6 points. Howard only got my like 3, and Diggs only got me 4. Lost in the 1st RD to the 8th seed, and the same guy I killed in the final week of the regular season. My only rooting interest now is my girlfriend's team. She finished as the #2 seed, but after this Thursday game, is projected to lose by a few points. Should be an exciting Sunday for us watching the games together.

QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 7, 2017 -> 11:22 AM) I'm a mess. I have Lamar Miller, Ingram, and now Burkhead, but also Alfred Morris. I'm shuffling and scrambline. Down 10 heading into 2nd week of semifinal. I'm screwed. Miller and Howard made me nervous all year. Luckily I had Elliott to mask those problems...until recently.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 7, 2017 -> 06:32 PM) I think the only way a deal gets done is if he agrees to an extension. In which case, why wouldn't he just play for a contender for 1 more year and then sign with the Sox if he wants to be here? I get the Orioles want to trade him, but if he's willing to sign an extension with us now, then he is willing to sign for that price in a year. I don't want to see us dump prospects for exclusive negotiating rights.

Also, it's not like this is the movie thread. This is the STAR WARS thread. You can't seriously be reading this thread before you are caught up with the new one.

QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 6, 2017 -> 09:57 AM) I'd vote for January 1st before we stop using spoiler tags. Easy day to remember. People can be forewarned. January 1st sounds good to me. Besides, by that time The Last Jedi will be SOOO last year.

Avi Garcia tendered a $3 million contract
ChiliIrishHammock24 replied to Dunt's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Dec 3, 2016 -> 01:25 AM) Yes, the "Dayan Viciedo" manuever. Tendered a contract for $4.4M, released in February and the Sox only had to pay him $733K (about 16%). So assuming the percentage owed would be the same if the Sox released Avi in early February like Viciedo was, the Sox would only owe Avi $480K. So they essentially need to find a trade to bring back a prospect that they would value at $500K to come out ahead of the opportunity cost. MISSED THE BOAT, RICK. -
QUOTE (GenericUserName @ Dec 5, 2017 -> 10:50 PM) From a fangraphs chat: https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/fangraphs-a...ark-chat-12517/ How would you guys feel about that deal? Upgrade Dalbec to OF Cole Brannen and I am totally in.

Welington Castillo to White Sox

QUOTE (Donaldo @ Dec 4, 2017 -> 06:44 PM) Sign-and-flip? Castillo should fetch a quality prospect or two at the deadline. They will wait until we sign his apparent-best friend Manny Machado, and then trade Big Beef the next day. -
Man, if we could get Beer or Joe Gray Jr with our 2nd pick...that would be sexy AF.

Welington Castillo to White Sox
ChiliIrishHammock24 replied to Sleepy Harold's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Did anybody see this? Brett Moccia @brettm1319 Following Following @brettm1319 More Sources: Wellington Castillo will sign with the #WhiteSoxs for 2 years 15 million 8:44 PM - 23 Nov 2017 Guy tweeted that over a week ago. No idea if that was an extraordinary guess, or if his source is legit, but he also tweeted out today that his source says Arrieta's camp believes they have a deal in place with Cardinals, but could take 1-2 weeks before it goes official. So I guess we shall see if he's 2 for 2 or just 1 for 2. -

Welington Castillo to White Sox

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 1, 2017 -> 12:29 PM) One big positive is that it allows us time to not rush Collins and Zavala. That's my take away as well. My offseason plan had us signing a veteran catcher for the benefit of the pitchers, while giving Collins more time to develop. I don't know if I trust Beef's suddenly respectable pitch framing, but his ability to erase baserunners will help our young pitchers as well. -
QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Dec 1, 2017 -> 02:31 AM) If that's the going rate, keep Abreu. I'd want McMahon and Dahl from COL or Rodriguez and Chavis from BOS. Only reason I don't want McMahon is because the dude is an absolute butcher with a glove, at least at 3B. 100 errors in 300 something games. He averages about 2 errors a week. We have so many 1B types already. He bat looks really good so far, I can't dispute that, but I would for once love to have a really quality defensive 3B who can also hit. Dahl or Tapia would be awesome pick-ups from Colorado, I just don't know that they would be willing to move either of them.
