  1. QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Nov 20, 2013 -> 08:46 PM) Kinsler is a horrible player at this point, and he's not cheap either. And yet he was better than Prince last year, and a lot cheaper. This is an absolutely amazing trade for Detroit.
  2. QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 20, 2013 -> 08:28 PM) Do you really not know players will lie about their size? Oswalt is none as one of the shortest pitchers. Me and you don't get to determine value. The 30 GMs who wouldn't give him a major league deal get to do that. Instead of nitpicking stats from a 32 inning sample size consider the facts. He's small, 35, losing velocity, hasn't been healthy the last four seasons and guys are squaring up the ball against him at crazy rates. To me, he should try and become a reliever. He could get some velocity back and keep striking guys out. All of your arguments include name calling but I am ignorant? You didn't say he'd get a two year deal but you did say maybe he would. I do agree that he is low risk though. Considering his last contract was a minor league deal... Please enlighten my why one of your sticking points for why Oswalt sucks so bad is that he is short. Why the f*** does that matter? Was he 6'3 when he was one of the best pitchers of the 2000s? We aren't projecting a prospect, we are talking about a proven all-star, stud pitcher who has proven his height is not a deterrent. So why bother harping on it? And you're right, he is having trouble staying healthy, which was exactly what my entire point, and contract guesses, were predicated on originally.....
  3. In other news, Miggy's OBP is about to go through the roof next season.
  4. QUOTE (woods of ypres @ Nov 20, 2013 -> 05:11 PM) What was the answer? Blowout Preventer.
  5. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 20, 2013 -> 04:21 PM) What did you think the answer was? Closer, because I was thinking actual baseball terminology.
  6. Elmore sounds like a great Charlotte player, terrible Chicago player.
  7. QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 20, 2013 -> 04:00 PM) Even using your 1 year proposal as an example. Prior to 2012, Oswalt signed a 1 year 5 million contract. During that season he sucked and got injured. Prior to 2013, oh wait, no one felt inclined to sign him prior to 2013. During 2013, Oswalt signed a MINOR LEAGUE deal with the Rockies and proceeded to suck ass. All of that adds up to another 5 million dollar contract or perhaps even a multiyear deal? Your argument is laughable chili. Sucked ass to a tune of a 9.46 K/9, 2.51 BB/9, 3.76 K/BB, 0.84 HR/9, 3.08 FIP, 3.39 xFIP, a ridiculously unlucky .442 BABIP, all culminating in a 0.9 WAR in only 32 IP, which is tremendous. BUT OH WAIT, HE HAD A LOSING RECORD AND HE IS 5 FOOT 10 (despite being listed at 6 foot, as if any of that matters anyway). HE HAS NO VALUE. Stop being so terribly ignorant. No one said he would get a 2 year deal, no one said he'd be anything more than a 5th starter and trade fodder in the summer IF he remained healthy. He is a pretty low risk-medium reward guy at this point.
  8. QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 20, 2013 -> 01:36 PM) Solid for sure. Lol. Makes me wonder where else the Sox check in. Johnson was the guy I wanted but Phil Hughes and Dan Haren could be possibilities. Hughes probably more so than Haren who might get a multi year deal. I'd bet you just about anything Oswalt doesn't get a two year deal. I don't know where your fandom from him roots from but the guy is already falling off and doesn't necessarily have a workhorse frame. He's 36 and listed at 6' but I'd guess he's probably 5' 9"- 5' 11" and not a big guy by any stretch. It's quite obvious you haven't look at ANY of Oswalt's recent numbers outside of LOLwins and ERA. This isn't 1960, we have advanced statistics and a better idea of how to evaluate a player. Feel free to modernize your thinking.
  9. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 20, 2013 -> 10:17 AM) Um, you're missing out on 2 of the best games of the ps3/360 generation. I thought it was a PS3 exclusive?
  10. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 20, 2013 -> 09:23 AM) OK, not really about player movement, but: The question itself and the answer I assumed wasn't that funny. When I found out the ACTUAL answer, I almost lost it.
  11. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 20, 2013 -> 09:53 AM) Roy Oswalt or Grady Sizemore? If Oswalt was 30, maybe you can blame his struggles solely on injuries. But at the age of 36, you can't just assume a healthy Roy Oswalt will kill it on the mound. Oswalt didn't have struggles statistically. His only real bad numbers have been IP, because of injuries. I don't expect him to kill it on the mound, but for how cheap he would likely sign, he could be a great candidate to trade by June if he stays healthy for the first few months. I'd be willing to bet he'd sign a 1 yr/$5M deal, maybe 2 yrs/$8M.
  12. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 20, 2013 -> 08:52 AM) That is solid? No, but it's irrelevant. All of Oswalt's numbers were very solid last year outside of ERA, which we all know can be extremely misleading, like it was in his case. Great peripheral numbers and an FIP and xFIP around 3 to prove it.
  13. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Nov 20, 2013 -> 12:55 PM) I'd love to send Alexei for Piscotty. Gives us a prospect for the corner that we need badly and opens up a job for Garcia/Semien. Would be a huge win for both teams, IMO. Yeah, I forgot which publication suggested that deal, but I really like it for both teams.
  14. I wouldn't even trade Tyler Flowers for him straight up. The Brewers can keep that cheating clown.
  15. QUOTE (Wanne @ Nov 20, 2013 -> 03:12 AM) What plus Reed would it take to get Castellanos from the Tigers? Alcohol.
  16. QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 20, 2013 -> 03:42 AM) Wasn't his ERA over 8 last year? Yeah, and he never won any of his 6 starts either. In fact, he lost all of them.
  17. QUOTE (Jake @ Nov 20, 2013 -> 01:31 AM) http://gizmodo.com/xbox-live-gold-is-still...-in-t-513093573 This speaks to one of the biggest drawbacks for XB 360, One, etc. for me See, I am a Playstation person, but I don't see this is a big issue. Now for me, it would be, because I rarely play games online (GTA 5 Online is the first game I've played online since Red Dead Redemption like 3-4 years ago). So when I get a PS4 eventually, I may actually just do a month-by-month PS+ subscription depending on what games are coming out (like Watchdogs, for instance). But I feel MOST game console users will be playing games online and will be spending their $60 on XBL anyway. They could have just as easily said "Be an XBL gold subscriber and we will throw in all these free apps you can use", and some people may feel differently about it. They may feel they are getting surplus value w/ those apps. I guess I just don't see it being an issue for the large majority of XboxOne owners. It's only the casual users who will use it primarily as a media hub (which is, of course, the way they are marketing this thing), that will get gipped off by this, and that's really Xbox's biggest folly here. Advertising it as something people who don't even like games will use, but then charging those people a monthly fee as if they were buying it as a gaming console. A bait and switch of sorts.
  18. Welp, Prisoners was awesome. Not the ending I wanted, but not a bad ending at all. Pissed me off just as much as Inception, and to a degree, Looper, both of which are also awesome movies.
  19. About to watch Prisoners. I hope it's as good as everyone says it is. Hoping to see Hunger Games in the theaters this week, but first I'll have to find a lady friend here at school who is in to those movies/books. I can't imagine too many of my guy friends like the series, and I sure as hell am not about to go on a mandate to see that money. I've gone on movie man dates to see Moneyball and 2 Guns, but not this one.
  20. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Nov 19, 2013 -> 11:18 PM) You keep the PS3 so you actually have video games to play. Definitely a reason. seriously the best thing about PS4 so far is that it forced me to upgrade to P'S Plus and now I play games like Shadow of the Colossus for free on PS3. The best thing about it was that it forced you to pay a monthly subscription fee that you only had the option to pay before? Lol, that's a weird selling point. I did check out the PS+ free games today, and was surprised to see Uncharted 3 is free, but it's 40 GB download! I've never played any of the Uncharted games though.
  21. QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 20, 2013 -> 01:46 AM) Josh Johnson had a nice ceiling. Roy Oswalt's ceiling is not sucking. Last time we saw Roy Oswalt, which was for 32 IP last year, he was very solid. Last time we saw Roy Oswalt fully healthy was 2010, when he was fantastic. Roy Oswalt hasn't had a bad year in his career, he's just had injured ones.
  22. I was advocating for Josh Johnson or Ubaldo Jimenez a month or so ago as targets we could acquire and then trade midseason for a couple prospects if they had a solid first half, like the Cubs had done with Feldman and Maholm. Now that I see Roy Oswalt wants to play again this year, I think he could be another candidate. If we got the cash, and we aren't spending it on any 1 or 2 big names, then I'd like to see us spend that cash on short term FAs to turn in to prospects at midseason.
  23. I'm hoping for De Aza and Quintana to be moved before Xmas.
  24. QUOTE (Brian @ Nov 19, 2013 -> 04:10 PM) How do you not like Sam Rockwell? He's great in everything. I loved him in 7 Pyschopaths and Frost Nixon, which may be the only two movies of his I've seen.
