Fister? Damn near traded her!
ChiliIrishHammock24 replied to southsider2k5's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Dec 2, 2013 -> 09:25 PM) Even if they get a big FA, I still dont see why they couldnt get more. Hes making less than 10mil a year, and under control for 2or 3 more years. Weird Right. I can't imagine they were prepared to pay Prince Fielder $23M this season, but not prepared to spend $6M on Fister. Even if they sign a FA now, there was nothing stopping them from getting full value for Fister. His contract didn't prohibit that. -

Look at this smoke blowers.... JIM BOWDEN @JimBowdenESPNxm 1h Krol significant up-grade to Tigers pen from left-side;Lombardozzi solid utilityInf & Ray has potential of 4th starter.Tigers reduce payroll Tim Kurkjian @Kurkjian_ESPN 1h The Tigers cleared money, opened a rotation spot for Drew Smyly and got a LH reliever (Ian Krol). And Steve Lombardozzi is very useful -

LOL at all the big writers applauding the Tigers for dumping money. Fister was going to make, what, $6M this year? FAR below what he is worth. Not all money is bad money. And this was hardly a contract that you have to settle for a bad return to get rid of. 29 other teams in baseball would be willing to pay $6M next year to have Fister in their rotation. Stupid writers trying not to say what they are thinking, that Dombrowski made an awful move. -

QUOTE (scs787 @ Dec 2, 2013 -> 09:36 PM) I wonder if this means Smyly returns to the rotation? If so Detroit better start adding some bullpen pieces. Smyly to the rotation, and Krol to the bullpen. Ray to AA, and Lombardozzi to bat boy duties. -

Well this is great news. I can now finally go pick up some Subway. I've been starving myself for the past half hour following this trade. -

Oh my lord, Nats official twitter just confirmed this. What a STEAL for the Nationals. Phew. Washington Nationals @Nationals 1h The #Nats have acquired Doug Fister from the #Tigers in exchange for Steve Lombardozzi, Ian Krol & Robbie Ray: -

QUOTE (Baron @ Dec 2, 2013 -> 09:26 PM) So the Nationals basically gave up role players for Fister....nice going Detroit Huh? We don't even have a single confirmed name going back. Rumors are ranging from Rendon to a collection of mid-level guys to Denard Span to a larger trade with multiple guys from each team moving. There is nothing on which to judge this trade right now, except assuming it can't improve the Tigers rotation, which is good news. -

Wow, apparently the Yankees are not willing to offer any more than 7 yrs/$175M for Cano. That comes out to $25M a year. That's the most realistic figure I've seen so far. I wouldn't want the Sox to pay that, but it's barely above what I'd probably offer, which would be 7 yrs/$155M. -

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Dec 2, 2013 -> 09:14 PM) The screens are undeniably awesome on the modern larger Android phones, but I dislike the Android experience immensely. If you're into customization, it's a nice albeit largely unnecessary addition, but the apps/settings is just a sub-par experience IMO. After jailbreaking my iPhone back on iOS6, the customization stuff was fun for about a week before I stopped caring again. I HATE working on Android phones for people at work for this reason. Every one of them is different, looks different, works different, and the apps, even apps that are the same on both just don't work or respond as well, and most of them have multiple apps that accomplish the same tasks, and depending on which one the person decided to use, you have to start troubleshooting with that one. I hate it. I wish Google would outlaw carrier tweaking/skins on Android and close source it. That would go against why most people love Android phones, because we all don't have the exact same cookie cutter phones that Apple resells every year. It's the customization and open source that a lot of, not all, people love about them.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 2, 2013 -> 09:17 PM) Would have, as in earlier in his career, when he wasn't established. He is a nice pitcher but he hasn't tapped his potential yet. I would take him over any pitcher on the Sox not named Chris Sale. -

Someone on the MLBTR comments is saying Anthony Rendon is in the deal, but who knows if that's valid. -

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 2, 2013 -> 09:13 PM) Fister would have been a nice Coop project at some point. Very Garland esque I wouldn't consider an established #2-#3 type guy as a project. That's like saying Jose Quintana would be a nice project for another team's pitching coach. Only difference is Fister is most established, so Q would actually be more of a question mark. -

Alright, well if we are starting a new thread....then.... QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 2, 2013 -> 09:05 PM) Doug Fister to Washington, so that's great news for us. He may be the most underrated pitcher in baseball. A rotation of Scherzer, Verlander, Sanchez, and Fister is incredibly scary. So glad they are breaking up that 4-some. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 2, 2013 -> 09:07 PM) David Cameron @DCameronFG 1h Among qualified SPs, Doug Fister ranks 9th in WAR over last three years, between Price and Hamels QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 2, 2013 -> 09:08 PM) My god, Fister has 3 years left until FA too. I really hope the Nationals aren't giving back appropriate value here, because Fister should be bringing back a haul. Way better than anything Jeff Samardzija has been rumored to get. -

QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Dec 2, 2013 -> 07:48 PM) I suggested we should go after David Freese and people practically jumped down my throat, but somehow Headley is a good idea? Somebody please explain this logic to me. That's easy. Freese is a mediocre player who has had 1 good year in his career. Headley is a good player who has had 1 mediocre year in his career. Freese is 30 years old and a righty. Headley is 29 years old and a lefty. Freese was one of the worst defensive 3B last year. Headley is one of the best defensive 3B in baseball. It's really not even an argument.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 2, 2013 -> 05:39 PM) I used to despise Tatum until 21 Jump Street. He was phenomenal in that (that whole movie was something everyone including me thought were be absolutely awful and turned out to be one of the funniest movies out there). This is the End confirmed he's the coolest guy ever. I wouldn't say I despised Tatum, but I definitely rolled my eyes any time girls wept over him like they do with Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner. Then I saw 21 Jump Street and became a fan of his. And then yes, he was funny in his This is The End cameo too. He just seems like a really cool and fun guy that chicks can drool over and guys can want to hang out with. Similar to Justin Timberlake in that way.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 2, 2013 -> 01:59 PM) Am I the only one who heard this news and immediately asked "Who?" I didn't quite ask "who", but instead "Is that the guy from the Fast and Furious movies? Is there a picture of him?". I have never actually seen anything he's been in, so I wasn't 100% sure. My friends at the bar were awfully upset about it. Then we went to a party afterwards and everyone there was talking about it. I guess I must be the only person in their 20's who hasn't seen those movies.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 2, 2013 -> 06:56 PM) Got an S4 over the weekend. Will let you know my thoughts in a bit (moving from an iphone). My uncle is trying to decide right now between the S4 and the G2. I have a feeling he will go with the S4 because he's seen more advertisements for it. He asked someone at Sprint to help him decide, and the salesperson said "Well, they all do the same things anyway". lol, what an unhelpful person.

QUOTE (Sonik22 @ Dec 2, 2013 -> 05:21 PM) I saw that interview as well but you're probably correct that I read you saying it as well. I'm very happy with the focus shifting to Capone though. The Chicago characters are the most interesting characters left since Harrow went soft this season. I would love to see a time jump to when Capone is running everything and then John Dillinger comes in to the scene a couple years later. Dillinger was big around 1933, and the latest season of Boardwalk ended in 1925. I guess it would be hard to get to Dillinger until a few seasons down the road after Capone's imprisonment. Also, just read through wikipedia, and a spoiler for anyone who didn't know the history with Johnny Torio, but,
