QUOTE (striker @ Dec 8, 2013 -> 06:31 PM) Gardner for Beckham straight up. They need a 2B. Gardner is better but they get 2 years of Gordon. There is probably not a snowballs chance in hell that they take that deal. Beckham + Beck + Petricka maybe.

QUOTE (Dunt @ Dec 8, 2013 -> 05:59 PM) So now that we've seen some teams forfeit their first round picks and resign with their original teams, what has our second round pick moved up to? It shouldn't move any spots, should it? Because any pick exchanges take place before the 2nd RD, so any team that loses a pick, another team gains in front of the 2nd RD anyway, right?

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 8, 2013 -> 05:27 PM) So the Japanese team now determines the amount they will accept and any team that is willing to pay that will be able to negotiate with the player. This should save the big market teams some money. I can see a lot of teams just posting all their players for $20M as a "win-win" situation. -

QUOTE (raBBit @ Dec 8, 2013 -> 04:03 PM) Anyone could say that after making a dumb trade idea. EDIT: Totally calm. Arizona wants a corner OF with power, had offered an even larger contract to Beltran, which obviously states their interest in paying him that contract, and they have a 3B prospect that could be expendable. The Yankees have extra OFers and they need a 3B for the future. I don't see what you could have possibly missed about that obvious trade match-up.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 8, 2013 -> 12:06 PM) Two top 10 movies of 2013 lists from Entertainment Weekly.com 10. Inside Llewelyn Davis 9. Prisoners 8. World War Z 7. The Past 6. Blue Jasmine 5. Gravity 4. Fruitvale Station 3. Before Midnight 2. American Hustle 1. 12 Years a Slave That was from Owen Gleiberman, their #1 critic. 10. The Conjuring 9. All is Lost 8. Out of the Furnace 7. Deceptive Practices: The Mysteries and Mentors of Ricky Jay 6. Enough Said 5. Captain Phillips 4. Fruitvale Station 3. 12 Years a Slave 2. Gravity 1. Before Midnight I think it's pretty safe to say that Fruitvale Station, 12 Years a Slave and Gravity will be the Top 3 Oscar contenders. Before Midnight, Captain Phillips, American Hustle (haven't seen it yet) and All is Lost would be my second tier list for the Best Film. FWIW, I really liked Rush and Prisoners a lot. Not sold on Before Midnight, compared to the previous two films in that trilogy, but it's definitely the darkest and some would say most realistic movie of the bunch. It's a little bit like "This is 40" for the Academy crowd. Of those I've seen Prisoners, which was awesome, and Captain Phillips which was solid. I'd like to see 12 Years a Slave and Blue Jasmine and American Hustle and maybe Out of the Furnace.

2014: - Out with the old, In with the Abreu But seriously, I'd just market "Oh my god, this will be Konerko's last game against the Houston Astros!" Our attendance is going to be awful unless Abreu starts off historically well.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Dec 7, 2013 -> 08:37 PM) Soriano is worth Matt Davidson now? We should have traded for Soriano in July just so we could send him to AZ in December for Davidson. Calm down, I'm talking in generalities.

QUOTE (zenryan @ Dec 7, 2013 -> 07:39 PM) it is getting scary ugly in the Boston-Pittsburgh game. Orpik knocks Loui Eriksson out of the game on first shift. Thornton wants to fight Orpik but Orpik wouldnt. 10 minutes later Marchand is knocked to the ice and while on his knees trying to get up, James Neal puts a knee to the back on Marchand's head. Then Thornton comes over and punches Orpik in the scrum while he's on the ice and Orpik is getting carted off. http://deadspin.com/brooks-orpik-carted-of...dium=socialflow -
I don't see the problem with the Spaghettio's thing.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 7, 2013 -> 08:07 PM) The Yankees are going to need to get an actual 3B. This Beltran signing didn't make a ton of sense. It allows them to DH Soriano, but it's much easier to get a DH than a 3B. Unless it allows them to trade Gardner to San Diego for Headley or something. Or maybe they immediately trade Beltran or Soriano to Arizona for Davidson. AZ offered 3 yrs/$48M for Beltran before he took less to go to NY.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 7, 2013 -> 04:13 PM) Except in April when he clearly was trying to do that...and it made him so much easier to strike out. Was it April when he decided to use a new approach? Because in June he had his best BB% (17.8%), his lowest K% (22.2%), hit .274, his best OBP (.402), and his OPS was nearly 1.000 for the month, and hit 9 HR with 24 RBI. It was clearly his best month last year, and probably his best month in many years. Did he try anything different in June and July? I can't remember, but those were his best months (maybe the weather played a role in that too). EDIT: It was at the beginning of the year when he tried his new approach of swinging early in the count. I wonder what he changed in June and July then. Just random good luck? -
QUOTE (chisoxfan310 @ Dec 7, 2013 -> 01:29 PM) Gutierrez's option got declined so he is free agent. I think the only chance of shedding Dunn's contract would be to stick him with someone of value like Santiago but since he only has one year left on his deal any way, it would be wiser to try to get younger pieces for Santiago. I think Seattle could possibly matchup with us though if the M's add Cruz and they are looking for another bat they can have without giving up much. A 2-6 of Seager Cano Cruz Dunn isn't horrible. Nick Franklin, not Franklin Gutierrez.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 7, 2013 -> 01:06 AM) They'll want that 1-2 punch of Ellsbury/Gardner or Gardner/Ellsbury at the top of the line-up. That leaves Ichiro and Vernon Wells for the bench. Beltran/Tex/McCann for the heart of the order. Soriano would theoretically hit 6th and DH. Then you have Jeter/Johnson/Brendan Ryan for the bottom of the order. Yankees still need to address the back end of their rotation and bullpen....but 1-6, and, assuming healthy Jeter and Johnson, that's a VERY strong line-up offensively. I would think they would gladly trade Gardner and make Ichiro their 1 or 2 man in exchange for a starter and/or reliever.

Yankees have almost eclipsed the $300M spending mark this offseason and we aren't even to the Winter Meetings yet. -
QUOTE (Jillian Michaels' Abs @ Dec 6, 2013 -> 11:51 PM) Beltran Ellsbury Soriano Ichiro Gardner Johnson (though I assume he plays second base now) Who gets traded? Gardner would look nice in a Sox uniform, and the Yannkees still owe us one for that Swisher trade (or was that payback for Contreras?)..... I've been wanting Brett Gardner for years now. I think I was pining for a Floyd for Gardner + prospect swap for a couple years there. Obviously in hindsight that would have been an awesome trade. Gardner has only played in 3 full seasons. 6.0, 4.9, and 3.2 WAR in those 3 years. Last year he trended the opposite way in almost everything, so I wouldn't want to give up too much for him, and he is a little older than we'd want on this team, but if he can be had for a lower price, I'd totally make a move on that. If he is right, he will play tremendous defense, swipe 40 bags, and walk at least 10% of the time. He could be a very prototypical lead off hitter.

QUOTE (onedude @ Dec 6, 2013 -> 10:38 PM) Heard Mob City started. Anybody catch it? Totally forgot when it was airing. IGN didn't give it a great review. Not a bad one, they just said it was just too typical of a show and in an era that has been done so many times already.

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Dec 6, 2013 -> 05:16 PM) This is not a complete list, but a breakdown of some intriguing players by BA. http://www.baseballamerica.com/majors/rule...names-to-watch/ Gavin Floyd Brody Colvin sounds like someone the Sox would take in the Rule-5 draft. -
QUOTE (Tex @ Dec 6, 2013 -> 04:36 PM) I have a new hard drive for my laptop stuck in Amazon since Saturday. I finally got my case today. It's a lot more subtle than I thought it would be. I kind of doubt this thing would protect it from too big of a fall though. I definitely find the phone feels less likely to fall out of my hand though, and it makes the button on the back easier to find.

Yeah, somehow I don't see the Phillies giving us Dom Brown and 1 or 2 other prospects for a package around De Aza and Santiago. That package isn't going to make anyone want to give up a 26-year-old lefty power hitter who slugged 27 HR last season in his true rookie year. His defense is amazingly bad, but last year was his first full season in the bigs. He had room to improve in places.

I know it's such a cliche, and I am sure someone has already said it in the first 5 pages, but this has "Coop project" written all over. A power arm who needs to learn control and repeating his motion.
