  1. You know yesterday when I made the statement about Sale have the most trade value of any pitcher in baseball, I made that comment with Jose Fernandez in mind for the #2 slot, simply because he has only done it for 1 year, and in the NL. If he repeats his performance next year, then I think he'd be #1, but right now I just don't think we can expect someone to trade their farm system for a rookie of the year.
  2. QUOTE (dayan024 @ Dec 5, 2013 -> 08:54 PM) Scott Merkin ‏@scottmerkin 36m Next year's Draft deeper, packed with pitchers http://atmlb.com/1d2Jjcd via @whitesox "Rodon is the best college left-hander since David Price" I hope he is saying that meaning the most highly touted. Because I think Chris Sale would be ahead of Price at this point, albiet it would be close.
  3. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Dec 5, 2013 -> 10:30 PM) Any good shows on HBO, Showtime, or Cinemax not named Homeland, Game of Throws, East Bound and Down, Shamless, or Masters of Sex? lol Boardwalk Empire, The Newsroom, Ray Donovan.
  4. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 5, 2013 -> 04:44 PM) And if I'm the Yankees, I say "Thanks for all of your contributions over the years. Good luck in Seattle, kid." And you'd likely be the only Yankees fan saying that. I'm pretty sure they don't think like the rest of us when it comes to big contracts.
  5. In a stunning revelation, I've found out that Tom from Entourage and Schmidt from New Girl are NOT the same people. They just look the exact same, and sound similar. Weeeeird. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0703778/?ref_=ttfc_fc_cl_t50 http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0339011/?ref_=tt_cl_t4
  6. Amazon Prime is failing me. I purchased that phone case on Sunday night. It's now Thursday and I still don't have it. It's been in Muncie since Tuesday morning. Get it together, UPS.
  7. Apparently Season 5 will be Boardwalk's last season. Will only be 8-10 episodes as well. I guess Terrance Winter said he wants to work on other projects. I hope one of those projects is a Chicago spinoff of Boardwalk with Al Capone. Call it "The Outfit" or "Chicago Outfit" or something.
  8. QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 5, 2013 -> 11:17 AM) Royals get Norichika Aoki from Milwaukee for LP Will Smith. What a trade of two guys I had no idea had played that well, especially Will Smith. Had something like an 11+ K/9 and a BB/9 around 1 something? Holy s*** man.
  9. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 5, 2013 -> 11:25 AM) Played 5-6 hours of AC4 this week and I'm really liking it. A big upgrade over AC3. Not as much modern day side story crap (at least not yet) and I like that you just jump into the story. I also really like how they forced the 20-25 minute install the first time you play, but thereafter load times are pretty minimal. AC3 had no flow with all of the load times I thought. I've decided that IF I get any graduation money, I may buy it for the $30. But I don't even think I'm having a graduation party, so it will be up to generous aunts and uncles who have extra money, which is like 1 of them.
  10. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Dec 5, 2013 -> 03:34 AM) Just saw a trailer for the new HBO series "True Detective" with Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey. Looks phenomenal. I love the actors in it, I'm just not sure why this show is any different from all the other cop/detective shows.
  11. Also, I have no IMDB'd it yet, but I am pretty certain that Lloyd's buttbuddy Tom is Schmidt from New Girl.
  12. I am just absolutely powering through Entourage. Halfway through S5 already. Every damn episode ends with a cliffhanger of sorts. It's almost too predictable in that sense, but it definitely keeps me watching. "Hey! We got this movie deal, let's do it!" *Next 20 minutes is spending the new money on frivolous things* *2 minutes left of episode* "Oh man, bad news. They are pulling the offer. Now we're broke." But that's why it's a comedy, so we can forgive some storyline with good fun and humor. Drama and Ari are amazing. I love the way Ari talks to Lloyd. Cracks my s*** up.
  13. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Dec 5, 2013 -> 12:46 AM) Wow. Didn't expect that type of response. I shot the deer legally and humanely. I searched for blood for over 20 minutes after I shot it but I lost sight of her very quickly after the shot and didn't see that she circled back. I was hunting in the UP of Michigan, where it was well below freezing. There was not a chance in hell the deer was going to rot. We eat every bit of venison from the deer that we harvest. This wasn't shooting an animal just to shoot an animal. And much like wite said, the deer herd needs to be managed in the UP, where they can very quickly get overpopulated. There are wolves, coyotes, black bears and cougars in those woods and in the 20+ years we have hunted on that land, NOT ONCE has a deer ever been touched. Waiting until the morning to search for a deer is extremely common. I don't blame anyone for "not getting" hunting. That's fine. But if you're going to rip someone for it, I hope none of you have ever gone fishing or eaten fast food. I thought you were being nice by feeding the wolves. We never hear about people feeding those hungry wolves.
  14. Oh my god, I had no idea that Pollock put up a 3.6 WAR last season playing CF for AZ. I knew he played, but I didn't know he played so well. His offense was alright, but his defense was spectacular. Given the fact that Pollock is younger and has 5 years left of team control, you could argue that he is actually a better player to have right now than Cespedes, who has only 2 years left at $10M each. Man, that would have been a really great deal for the A's.
  15. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Dec 4, 2013 -> 09:51 PM) I'm not sure how realistic is would be for us to get Montero back. Wouldn't make a whole lot sense for a team trying to make a playoff push to trade their only capable catcher. I would definitely target Davidson because he presents a long term solution to 3B. I agree on Owings, he's pretty much a must get. I'm not crazy about Eaton, but I see why he makes sense. They have some minor league depth at pitching too, so could be an opportunity to get another guy in our system. Chafin or Spruill are interesting guys that AZ probably wouldn't miss. Edit: Just now noticed that you have Reed involved too. I think Davidson, Owings, and Eaton is fair just for Q and Viciedo. If we are giving up Reed too I want Davidson, Owings, Eaton, Chafin, and Trahan You think Reed is worth Chafin and Trahan? I don't. And I doubt Arizona would.
  16. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Dec 4, 2013 -> 09:21 PM) Sounds like they were counting on 50, and P.O.'d that it could be only 20. This seems like a negotiation tactic. Yep. And besides, who cares? If it's $20M, the Sox have a chance. If it's not $20M, then the Sox don't have a chance. So I'd rather he stay in Japan than one of the rich teams take another Japanese arm.
  17. QUOTE (Kevtrem @ Dec 4, 2013 -> 09:05 PM) Viciedo, Quintana, and Reed for Montero, Owings, and Eaton What do you guys thing? Fair or Unfair, who gets shafted and how bad? I actually don't like that for the Sox. And I don't see Arizona trading Montero, considering Trahan was a 19 year old in Rookie ball last year. I don't want to give up on Viciedo, but for Viciedo, Quintana, Reed and cash (They appear to be hurting for money), I'd be asking for Skaggs/Delgado, Owings, Davidson, and Trahan.
  18. QUOTE (Jake @ Dec 4, 2013 -> 07:29 PM) I read that the next gen of iPhones might be covered in Sapphire glass, which is supposedly practically impossible to scratch or break. A phone that I can't damage is something that could tempt me back to the dark side... Don't think all those other companies aren't working on something along those lines as well.
  19. What is the best piece of advice a pitching coach has given you? If you could emulate one professional pitcher's game, whose would it be and why?
  20. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Dec 4, 2013 -> 07:04 PM) I've come over to this way of thinking. Sign Tanaka, deal Sale, draft Hoffman. Or, we sign Tanaka, keep Sale, draft Hoffman, and then have pretty much the most dominant starting 4 in baseball with Sale-Tanaka-Quintana-Hoffman in 3 years.
  21. How crazy would that be if we get the #1 international hitter and #1 international pitcher in one offseason, and they are 26 and 25-years-old respectively. That would be quite a shot in the arm for rebuilding.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 4, 2013 -> 06:05 PM) I thought he had 3 more years of team control? Didn't he sign a 5 year deal? Otherwise you're making a good case, but for once we might be able to say Oakland is in "win-now" mode. 2 years left. He signed a 4 year deal that granted him Free Agency after his contract ended. In 2012 he put up a 2.9 WAR, in 2013 he had a 2.2 WAR. He's basically been slightly better than De Aza so far, while costing more (but also providing a different skill set, in a pitchers park).
  23. I don't want Gregorious. I'd rather have Owings. Assuming they wouldn't trade Bradley..... Skaggs, Owings, Davidson, Parra, Trahan for Sale. That trade would amazing consist of only blocked players given up by the Dbacks. Skaggs is blocked by "insert top pitching prospect here", Owings by Gregorious, Davidson by Prado, Parra by Eaton, Pollock, Ross, and Trahan by Montero.
  24. I think it's fair to say Chris Sale should have the highest trade value of any pitcher in baseball right now.
  25. QUOTE (farmteam @ Dec 4, 2013 -> 05:56 PM) Saw a couple of mentions for Masters of Sex. I liked it, but it was a little to bland for me. I've never been so simultaneously impressed with an actor (Sheen) but annoyed with their character. If I didn't have so many other shows going on in the fall I might have kept it up, but something was getting cut. Did you make it to Episode 4? The first 3 episodes are slow and building, then the show takes off from there.
