Offseason Top Prospects lists
ChiliIrishHammock24 replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE (DirtySox @ Nov 16, 2013 -> 10:49 AM) Kevin Goldstein was high on Myles Jaye. He now works for the Astros. This is a Jason Parks list. Oh, ok. So the fact that BP's list last year was high on Jaye and they were right probably has no bearing on Montas sneaking in to the top 10 on this year's list. -
No punts, no kickoffs, no problem

QUOTE (chw42 @ Nov 16, 2013 -> 12:42 AM) Pretty sure this is a high school team... Yep, you're right. I stopped reading the wiki page after I saw "independent college", and didn't see the rest. -

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Nov 15, 2013 -> 11:33 AM) The Top Ten RHP Erik Johnson SS Tim Anderson RF Courtney Hawkins RHP Chris Beck RHP Tyler Danish SS Marcus Semien 2B Carlos Sanchez 2B Micah Johnson CF Trayce Thompson RHP Francellis Montas Are BP the same publication that surprised everyone by including Myles Jaye last year? Because if so, they appear to have done it again with Montas. Yeah, but if they were high on Myles Jaye BEFORE last year, why are they not high on him this year? Also, surprised they have Semien so low. I figured him to be in everyone's top 3. -
After about 4 1/2 hours of lockdown on campus for a possible gunman, we've finally gotten the all clear. Only 1 round was fired.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 15, 2013 -> 06:41 AM) Not gonna rehash the Miggy vs Trout debate, but one asshole voted Trout 7th and two people voted Goldschmidt 6th. Those people should lose voting privileges. I think even worse than those two things are the Oakland writer who voted Josh Donaldson the MVP, and the STL writer who voted Molina #1 and Matt Carpenter #2. At least w/ the thing you posted, neither the Angels nor the Dbacks made the playoffs, so maybe his reasoning was that all the candidates whose teams DID make it automatically got voted higher.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 15, 2013 -> 08:46 AM) I'm not sure where they got their percentages for that piece. It's definitely different for HS, college, and pro. You can make a very easy argument that you should never punt if you are beyond your own 40 yard line, but there are clearly plenty of situations in college and the NFL where punting is better than going for it. I think the big difference in high school is that the amount of field position gained on a punt is much less than in higher levels. Well this is a college team, not HS, but yes, I had thought about that too. However, a punt can always result in a touchdown for the receiving team, so it's not just field position. -
QUOTE (Brian @ Nov 15, 2013 -> 12:14 PM) GROUND FLOOR wasn't bad. I like John C McGinley and the role reversal is ok. I'll stick with it. There is a girl with the best legs ever on it. That girl that Skyler Astin (who has got to be gay in real life, right?) is banging in the show looked so sexy when she was in his bed in the little shorts and the cammy. Wowza.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 14, 2013 -> 07:08 PM) No, the argument is he has stated the White Sox shouldn't acquire pieces that are short term solutions. Weiters is repped by Boras. You can say maybe this maybe that, but reality is he would be a short term solution who would cost players who otherwise may be part of the long term solution or used to acquire long term solutions. And Scott Boras certainly is a good reason to think Weiters would be 2 and out. Do we know yet that Hahn refuses to work with Scott Boras?

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Nov 14, 2013 -> 07:38 PM) I haven't seen the show yet but his batman skits before the show came about were absolutely hilarious. I actually just watched the Batman vs. Superman one that he did. Pretty funny, but his one with Batman talking dirty while being wounded is the absolute best.

As soon as Chromecast adds an Xfinity App, it will become invaluable. I use my old roommates Comcast account, and she has every single premium channel, so it's nice watching shows and movies on her account.

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Nov 15, 2013 -> 12:40 AM) PS4 and XBox come out tomorrow or something?? I am out of the loop because 1, I am too poor to just buy one and 2, I don't want to now. I was going to Best Buy tonight because my dog chewed up my laptop charger and there were people sitting outside Best Buy in a line. PS4 comes out tonight. Xbox1 comes out....next week maybe?

2013-2014 NHL thread

What a deal. Love having Steeger back. -
QUOTE (ron883 @ Nov 14, 2013 -> 06:06 PM) 16m+? yeah right. It will probably be around 13m, and only for 1 year. I expect Wieters to command more than that. It was $13.3M last year, $14.1M this year, and in case you haven't noticed, more money gets spent every year. It's highly likely the QO price in 2 years will be around $16M.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 14, 2013 -> 05:30 PM) Yes, but 2 years vs. 2 years and you have to give up something for Weiters. Haven't you constantly said they Sox aren't going to win anything the next 2 years? So why give up good players for a guy who will be gone in 2 years? That's a terrible argument. That's like saying "Why would we trade for Mike Stanton when we could just sign Marlon Bryd to a 3 year deal. 3 years vs. 3 years, and you have to give up something for Stanton." Except the difference is that Stanton will actually command a gigantic contract, Wieters won't. I don't know why people think we could sign Brian McCann for $15M a year, yet Wieters we could not afford to bring back.

It's really a fascinating strategy. I'd love to see it tried at a D1 or pro level, but I can't imagine anyone having the balls to do it. It would have to be a D1 team that is always bad, like an Akron or something. -

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Nov 14, 2013 -> 02:05 PM) I think the production in between in conjunction with the opportunity to have a long term solution, lower salary, and the draft pick compensation better position the franchise than a retirement age stop gap. We know Ruiz has an offer for 2/$20, not sure what the market is for AJ yet, but I imagine it will be close to that once McCann and Ruiz are off the board. While I do want Wieters, we are only getting draft pick compensation if we offer him a QO, which a couple years from now may be around $16M+. So he'd really need to return to his 2011 form when he led all catchers in baseball with a 4.6 WAR. Not saying he can't, just saying it's no guarantee that we get a draft pick out of him if/when he leaves.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 14, 2013 -> 09:43 AM) The Pete Holmes show on TBS is actually 'very funny'. I've enjoyed it as well. He is so quirky and weird that it's hard not to be interested. He seems like a genuine person. Also, I loved his Men's Warehouse spoof last night. And his monologue a couple days ago when he was embarrassed to say a fingering joke in front of his mother in the audience. Haha.

QUOTE (ChiSoxFan05 @ Nov 14, 2013 -> 12:37 AM) Sorta OT but Quintana wants his number changed to 24 apparently. And what does Viciedo think of that?
-
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Nov 14, 2013 -> 12:18 AM) I'd be ok with that. We trade a decent cost controlled young pitcher and a 2B who needs a change of scenery for a catcher with deflated value who has a nice ceiling offensively, but provides stellar defense and a great throwing arm. His lack of controlled years makes it a fair swap to offset his the amount of talent he provides over Santiago/Beckham. And Orioles needs SP and 2B right now, so it seems like a good fit for both teams. Maybe we throw in someone like Snodgress to sweeten the deal, but either way.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Nov 14, 2013 -> 12:09 AM) You may actually need the hard copy to redeem the digital version of the game if you do the $22 upgrade. But afterwards, I think you can sell it. It would make sense for them to have some sort of system, like maybe you mail them the game in a pre-paid envelope and you get the code 2 days later or something. I haven't looked in to it since I'm not in the market for a PS4 yet.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 14, 2013 -> 12:05 AM) You think I would ban you for calling me "Kylie?" Lol For saying you don't moderate fairly. But honestly, I've always read your username as Kylie.
-
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 13, 2013 -> 03:43 PM) I wasn't, but it's becoming increasingly hard to resist. And you can just trade in your hard copy of that game for probably $30-40, so the $22 digital purchase will be gravy.
