  1. QUOTE (klaus kinski @ Aug 4, 2008 -> 08:51 AM) I'm tired of hearing about Liriano-he dont play every day-and if just one of their other starters gets lit up a week-it cancels him out Seriously. He threw 6 innings of shut-out ball in that horrid stadium against probably the worst team in the AL. He gave up 3 hits and 3 walks with 5 strikeouts. Good, but not great, numbers, especially the 3 walks. Guaranteed if Gavin went out there with the same line against the Indians in the Cell, people would be talking about how he's due to fall apart and the numbers are a fluke, blah blah blah.
  2. Whelp, that's the line on Buehrle. 8 earned runs against the team in last place in your division while holding onto a .5 game lead for first place. Great performance.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 2, 2008 -> 03:50 PM) He has no change-up right now. According to the Fox gun, his fastball is sitting around 85-86. Not much difference between his fastball and change, then.
  4. That pitch by Buehrle was up to Billy Butler, that's for sure. 4-3 Royals.
  5. QUOTE (WCSox @ Aug 2, 2008 -> 02:19 PM) Unless he goes on the DL this year, he'll garner enough at-bats to automatically guarantee his contract option for next year. Beyond that, extending an injury-prone 38-year-old so fragile that Ozzie's afraid to stick him at 1B during interleague play would be a retarded move. "Injury-prone" - Has played in less than 130 games once (59 in 2005) since 1994. Yep. "Injury-prone". Also there's the fact that he's posted OPS+ of 155, 150, and 132 with us. And that he was our best offensive player last year, and second-best in 2006. But hey, everyone's entitled to their opinion. Who do you suggest we DH next year?
  6. Unless something strange happens, there's no reason to re-sign Griffey. My question is, how can anyone justify not re-signing Thome?
  7. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 07:22 PM) I'd have to evaluate the preference on a ball club based on who the other 8 players on the lineup are as well as what else they do well. Ie, what positions do they play? Does the team already have a lot of pop (if so, than I'd probably take the .300 hitter)? Do they play premium defense, steal bases, draw walks, strike out a lot, etc. Say its a .260 hitter who doesn't draw walks, strikes out a ton and is a pure DH compared to a .300 hitter with 20SB speed who plays good D and gets on base at a .360 type clip (with few strikeouts). I'm going to go with player 2. However, it all depends cause there are certain instances where I'd take the .260 hitter (ie, if a team doesn't have many power hitters). Or if that .260 hitter who hits for massive power also hits a s***load of doubles and gets on base 40% of the time. What about your other scenario? Wouldn't you have to consider all these other variables there, too?
  8. QUOTE (jenks45monster @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 01:15 PM) Just wondering if we would get compensation for Griffey Jr. after this season if he signs elsewhere. Does anybody know? I know they decided that they will buyout his contract option but would they still get compensation? If we got compensation picks for Griffey Jr., O Cab (if he's not traded), and Crede (and possibly Uribe), that would be absolutely outstanding. Thanks If we offer him arbitration, and he signs elsewhere, we should get 1 sandwich pick (between 1st and 2nd rounds) due to Griffey's status as a type-B free agent.
  9. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 10:01 AM) Revitalized like Robby Alomar? Swisher had a nice OPS in June, it didn't mean squat in July. What is Konerko doing, again? Alomar also posted a .253 .330 .340 line with us in 2003, which is right in your boy Uribe's territory. By your logic, any struggling player posting a nice month will immediately be awful the next month. Might want to be careful with blanket statements like that.
  10. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 09:54 AM) Maybe KW should see if Rollie Fingers and Tom Seaver feel like pitching. They were pretty good once. What's funny is about the same percentage of Reds fans feel the exact same way about Griffey as the majority of the board feels about Konerko. Griffey had an OPS above .900 for the month of July. He's on a sustained hitting streak. There's a good chance going to a contender might revitalize him further. He's a first ballot hall-of-famer. Konerko isn't doing ANYTHING, and hasn't for the whole season. Our pitching isn't lights-out as it was at the start of the year, so we could use more offense. Richar and Masset aren't very good, and probably won't contribute anything worthwhile in Cincinnati, either. We don't pay anything, and Griffey probably brings back two type-B picks at the end of the year. I don't see much worth complaining about with this move, just wondering where Griffey will play.
  11. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 04:21 PM) Obviously you prefer a guy that hits .300 with 35 hr's as opposed to a guy who hits .300 with 10 Hr's. So what about a guy who hits .260 with 35 hrs as opposed to a guy who hits .300 with 10 hrs?
  12. There sure are lots of italics being tossed around in this thread. Be careful with those, guys. Someone might get hurt. Oh, and Gavin Floyd is a 25 year old pitcher who's having a pretty good season in the middle of a pennant race in the AL in his first full season in the majors. That's pretty impressive to me, but I guess if you're looking for 12 Ks a game or a shutout every other start you'll be disappointed.
  13. Let's bring him up against the Twins so he can hit bouncers over their third baseman's head, then steal second and piss them off like they do to other teams all the time.
  14. Lowe has an ERA north of 5 on the road this year. No thanks.
  15. I'll be there tonight. Section 530, Row 13.
  16. Southwest service Metra is one way. I take it to Union Station (Canal and Adams) sometimes, then walk to Jackson & State to catch the Red Line south to Sox Park. I'll either take Red Line to Metra back home, or take the Red Line back to Roosevelt, Orange Line to Midway, and bus or car home.
  17. On topic, I'm not really worried about Crede, except for if he can reach type B or A free agent status to bring us back some prospects when he leaves.
  18. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 17, 2008 -> 05:12 PM) I have never understood booing your teams' players unless they are showing a lack of effort. How do you possibly justify booing Konerko when he's been playing injured almost the entire season? If I had any clue how to imbed youtube.com videos I would imped Konerko's grand slam during the WS listening to the guy shooting it going crazy. Konerko haters would be owned. Considering he followed up that season with a.313 35 homer 113 rbi campaign, and last year hit .259 with 31 and 90, booing him would show a lack of intelligence and while I don't know if it would be the low point for White Sox "fans", it certainly would be down there quite a bit. Watching the WS grand slam "owns" no one, since it happened 3 years ago. Past seasons don't have any effect on this season, other than to show that Konerko is capable of pulling out of his slump. It's not bad to expect Konerko to perform, and to be upset that he's not. It's bad to demand crazy trades for him, or to release him, because he's struggled for 2/5 of a season. It's also silly to dislike him because he pops up or GIDP or hangs his head when he makes an out.
  19. QUOTE (earthshiner @ Jul 17, 2008 -> 12:24 AM) just reread the entire thread and other than the '05 playoffs and some decent years from 00-02 not much else was there. I have said that I liked for a time in october of 05 and that he needed to go about 6 years ago. I stand by my comments and look forward to many more LOBs from Pauly the Rally Killer in the second half. From 1999 to 2007, Paul Konerko had exactly one season where he performed below expectations for an MLB 1st baseman. Every other year, he was well above average. If we let him go after 2002, we would've missed out on the two best years of his career (2005 and 2006), and probably a World Series trophy as well. That wouldn't have been too smart. Your other response in this thread about hating his "pop-ups" (how do you feel about Crede, then?) leads me to believe you're not basing your opinion about Konerko solely on opinion, not fact. Paulie stinks this year so far, but he deserves a chance to work through it, because of the numbers he is capable of putting up. As I've said before, if he struggles through July, you bench/platoon him.
  20. QUOTE (ChiCard @ Jul 16, 2008 -> 08:55 PM) There's no such thing as "yesterday" or "tomorrow" in pro sports any more. The only thing that matters is "today". "Today" Konerko is not producing and even costing us games with his glove. You're fickle. QUOTE (ChiCard @ Jul 16, 2008 -> 08:55 PM) A change of scenery might do him good and bring the Sox a swift everyday outfielder with some pop in his bat. Then we'll be in a position to meet the Cubs in the WS, beat their ass, and silence their fans forever!. No, that's not going to happen. We're not getting the next Sizemore or even Chris Young back for a first baseman hitting .220. We probably wouldn't even get Reed Johnson.
  21. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 13, 2008 -> 07:06 AM) he [uribe] took me out for some 7 course meal and we held hands on a romantic walk by the lake. Fixed that quote up for ya.
  22. Five words... three hundred million lotto tickets.
  23. I didn't even know this was in here. Thanks guys!
