  1. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 3, 2017 -> 10:03 AM) http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/02/jose...ors-astros.html I don't blame them for balking on including Musgrove. They need all the pitching they can get and parting with someone they figure to be in their rotation this year is unlikely. If this is true, not sure why the Sox are insisting on Musgrove.
  2. QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Feb 1, 2017 -> 02:37 PM) George Ofman @georgeofman 1m Hearing the farm rich Texas Rangers are in the mix for Quintana. Oh boy. Well there's something new! Time to go dig into Texas's farm system for 50 pages!
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 27, 2016 -> 04:12 PM) I don't like seeing a team that I think should be competing for world series chances saying hopefully the wild card is available. If you're building a team to get in the wild card game I think you're doing it wrong. Win your division, don't leave your entire season up to a one game playoff. Houston is foolish for valuing prospects over a young cost controlled ace because they assume success from players with short track records and players rebounding from bad years.
  4. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 19, 2016 -> 01:36 PM) Holy crap I found something strange in the internet. Check out this entirely reasonable article and comment section from yankees fans: http://www.pinstripealley.com/yankees-rumo...-trade-interest I was expecting proposals like "We'll give them Texiera and Headley for Quintana, Robertson and Frazier" but those are all actually sane. They seem to be thinking the same as us - they've got a ton of hitting prospects and we have the pitching they used to have need.
  5. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 10:34 AM) Awesome stuff here as always from Brian and Future Sox as a whole. It was good hearing Chris Getz on the radio with Spiegs and Goff last week as well. Is there a link to that interview?
  6. QUOTE (peppers312 @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 04:23 PM) so if you're not looking at what a closer has already done, it seems like everyone's rationale is this how you evaluate a closer... 1. FIP 2. WHIP 3. K/9 4. BB/9 4. Saves 5. ERA ?? FIP is better than ERA for pitchers in general because it takes crappy defensive plays out of the mix entirely. High WHIP usually correlates with high ERA/FIP but not always. It's always a warning sign though that the pitcher was lucky to escape situations without blowing a save. Walks and strikeouts per 9 is also just good for every pitcher. A guy with a high ERA but high K/9 and low BB/9 is a good candidate for a "rebound" season. Saves are like wins for SP - somewhat in the pitcher's control but mostly not, especially because a blown save can happen before the 9th.
  7. QUOTE (Baron @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 05:32 PM) My boy Flowers. Yeah I saw that weak wave of a swing on a 98 mph fastball on the corner.
  8. QUOTE (Baron @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 05:10 PM) Lopez in a start vs Atlanta...guess who strikes out? Everyone?
  9. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 01:16 PM) Excited to have Moncada, but can't help but wonder why this trade couldn't have been made at the trade deadline this year?I don't think Boston was offering Moncada at the time, or if they were it was him and some filler. I also think the Nationals deal leaking last night pushed the Red Sox to make a move.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 01:13 PM) Yeah, that was when Boston thought they weren't giving away a top player to get him. They literally gave away the top prospect in baseball, plus more. Sure, I get that. Adding a potential perennial All-Star/HOF level talent will open a lot of doors.
  11. I remember when we were all like "LOL Red Sox we're not trading Chris Sale to you! You guys are idiots!"
  12. I don't know why you'd non-tender a guy with an .821 OPS last year for a 30 year old former-AAAA player who dominated the Korean league (which is still an unknown as far as actual talent translation), but I can say I'm glad I'm not a Brewers fan. Carter would be a good pickup for the Sox as DH while rebuilding. Hell I'd even think he's a solid addition if they decide to go for it again for some reason (please don't).
  13. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 3, 2016 -> 02:30 PM) Matt Davidson was so fixed in his 4th season at AAA, his OPS was .001 higher than Leuri Garcia. He was better than he had been, but he still sucks. Garcia did hit .313/.367/.426, so that's not exactly terrible. Still you'd like to see higher numbers from Davidson than some AAAA middle infielder.
  14. I'll never forget the TV call of that last out: "Palmeiro, over the head of Jenks. Uribe charges, throws... OUT! AND THE WHITE SOX HAVE WON THE WORLD SERIES!"
  15. I'm just calling it Comiskey again.
  16. Good stuff. I'm surprised to see Collins with such pedestrian numbers in A+. He's a little young for the league, sure, but everything we heard about him was focused on his advanced bat and how it could push him through the system quickly.
  17. http://www.pitcherlist.com/blog/gif-breakd...t-in-13-hd-gifs Talks about his ability to be dominating even though his control is pretty bad. Harnessing it could mean another very scary pitcher in our rotation.
  18. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Aug 5, 2016 -> 09:39 AM) LOL - what in the world type of conversation can you have then for Chris Sale if these guys are not available, and presumably the Betts and Boegardts of the world were not available? There is absolutely NO conversation to be had then. That might be why Dombrowski said he hadn't talked to Hahn since Friday. He offered some crap for Sale, and Hahn didn't even bother replying.
  19. At this point he's worth a shot. It's going to be really hard for them to get an impact bat any other way than offseason trades, and even those will likely be prospects that have a chance to fail. Taking Puig and having him put up even last years numbers are an upgrade over Avi/Shuck/Coats. Of course there's a lot of risk here, but the Sox put themselves in a position where they need to take chances like this or they're going to be stuck in mediocrity for a while.
  20. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 13, 2016 -> 05:07 PM) Saladino has a higher WAR than Bruce, who can only realistically DH on a contending club. That's because of Tyler's defense. Bruce is way better on offense. But you're right, the AL is probably the only viable destination for him. I still don't think the Reds are going to let him go for what the Sox would offer because there's no reason for them to. He's got another option year on his contract so they can likely pick that up (why not) and see what his market is in the offseason if no one blows them away at the deadline.
  21. If the Dodgers don't want too much for him (Hawkins? Adams?), and I don't think they can ask for too much, given his reputation and numbers the last two years, he's a guy I'd take a chance on for sure. He's cooled off a bit lately, but over the last month he's hitting .317/.417/.467/.883. If you assume he'll bounce back even to last year's numbers (OPS+ 110), he's still miles better than Avi or one of our many 4th outfielders. I think Bruce and Cargo are pipe dreams at this point, so the Sox are in the position where they need to look at moves like this. No one's going to just give us currently productive players for nothing, we don't have much trade ammo left at all , and there isn't much on the free agent market next year.
  22. A friend of mine is the director of video production for the Knights. I'll see if he's doing anything for tonight's game.
  23. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 5, 2016 -> 02:35 PM) Reds pitching be like "HIT THIS. HIT ALL OF THIS"The Reds announcers were talking about Russell and said something like "you can't just fire a fastball down the middle against him, you need to pitch on the corners and let up a little". Next pitch? Fastball fired right down the middle blasted for a 2-run HR.
  24. I don't think the Royals would trade him to a divisional opponent directly, so you'd probably have to do something like we did with Frazier. They'd also have to talk to Shields to figure out if he'd be worth it, assuming Shields could help keep him under control, and see if the rest of the team actually wanted to play with him. I wouldn't be opposed to giving Ventura a shot, given we don't give up much of value in a trade. I just don't know if he'll ever be able to keep himself from being a total s***bag.
