  1. PS this thread f***ing rules and it has done so since the moment it was started.
  2. Pessimists and so-called "realists" can stay the f*** out of this thread. And when we win you don't get to celebrate either.
  3. That worked out well... It doesn't matter how you start, it's the finish that counts.
  4. Even Miss Cleo is forecasting their doom. But fear not, Tigers fans! Alan Trammell to the rescue!
  5. Scott Podsednik revives Steve Perry's career AGAIN! The Tigers are beginning to falter.
  6. Trouble's a-brewin' for the Tiggers... Here we see the venerable Mr. Wizzo as he channels pure, concentrated sucktitude from Scott Linebrink and projects it onto the 2009 Detroit Tigers. Wizzo believes Linebrink has enough of this stuff to bring down a commercial airliner.
  7. QUOTE (Reddy @ Sep 9, 2009 -> 11:33 PM) winning the world series 4 years ago with a radically different squad that was actually good probably wont affect the outcome of this next 21 games. Don't stop believin'!
  8. QUOTE (GasHeGone @ Sep 9, 2009 -> 11:23 PM) Think about this. Detroit's lost two in a row (to Kansas City). The Sox win in the bottom of the 13th tonight. Momentum... If Detroit goes 9-15 the rest of the year and we win each of our last seven series -- meaning we go at least 14-7, we both finish 6 over. Then, we play them in a one-game playoff (with which we have experience) and rip it up. Believe.
  9. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Sep 9, 2009 -> 11:33 PM) I'm an optimist. Let's do it.
  10. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 9, 2009 -> 11:39 PM) If we had a chance of any kind we'd have swept the crummy A's while the Royals were cooling off the Tigers. Hate to be buzzkill but did you watch tonight's game? It was two pretty bad teams with us salvaging the series split barely. No you don't.
  11. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Sep 9, 2009 -> 05:30 PM) Kenny Hates Prospects Hates Prospects. From now on I do.
  12. QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Sep 9, 2009 -> 07:32 PM) Baseball America say he has a low-90’s sinking fastball and promising slider. I know there were some rumours about him moving to the rotation and I was hoping he'd make the transition since relievers only have so much value, obviously he'd need a third pitch for that... maybe next year. That sucks. I could have sworn I read that he was a guy who could touch 100, so I looked for that but could only find obscure references to him being a power arm and having a lot of potential and all that stuff. Ugh.
  13. I just watched that video and that was the final straw for me. AJ shouting "Go White Sox!" and flicking off the Cub fans with his World Series ring was one of the greatest moments in Chicago sports history. So f*** off Tyler Flowers, I hope Kenny trades you! I don't EVER want to see AJ leave this town! He's my favorite position player on this team and I really don't give a rats ass if anyone thinks we need to turn it over to Flowers. If Kenny trades AJ I will forever hate him.
  14. The veteran Linebrink could learn a thing or two by watching the rookie Hudson pitch. I understand that Linebrink needs to throw his fastball up in the zone on occasion in order to set up his splitter, but would be well served to work lower more often like Hudson does. My first two impressions on Hudson are that his fastball is above average, his change has plus potential, and his slider lacks consistency. Maybe he just needs to get warmed up because apparently as a starter the slider would come to him later. But just off of location, and movement and velocity on his fastball, he looks like he could indeed fill out that setup role in the very near future. I've been pretty impressed by him so far.
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 9, 2009 -> 02:58 PM) Why do you say that? From what we've seen it looks like he has a good low 90's fastball with some movement, some non-terrible offspeed stuff, does need to work on his control but has already shown flashes. Am I wrong on any of that? It's not like he's getting outs entirely by trickery. If he doesn't have good control on a day right now he gets shelled, but that's what happens with most kids. He's got that tight little curve and slider he throws with next to nothing on his fastball and he finds the middle of the plate far too often. He doesn't just need control, he needs basically impeccable control, and probably an over-anxious offense like the Cubs were. DJ Carrasco has much better stuff IMO and I wouldn't want DJ starting. I wouldn't call Torres a finesse guy like Carrasco though, I'd call Torres a balls guy who goes out there and makes the opposition swing the bat. Unfortunately, Major League hitters aren't going to miss him too much.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 9, 2009 -> 02:53 PM) I've got to believe KW will attempt to do that on the FA market. There's enough guys out there who can be decent situational lefties who will accept a 1-2 year deal for a couple million dollars that it wouldn't make sense to leave that as a hole. I hope so. Bring in a Will Ohman or something. I'm just planning for the worst however.
  17. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 9, 2009 -> 12:59 PM) I say Garcia because of his experience. He can make the most of what he has left and it appears he is healthy again. I still have issues with Hudson and Torres as far as their consistency. One real good outing and that is followed by a bad one. Rokies might need more seasoning where as Freddie is ready. Hudson has looked very consistent IMO. He's throwing strikes and hitting the corners. I was mad at Ozzie yesterday because he cost Huddy an earned run by sending out the garbage truck with just one man on. Torres OTOH has no business being in a Major League rotation for a team which has playoff aspirations. As a long reliever he might one day end up somewhere, but probably not. I love his attitude and confidence and balls, but he's not any good at all.
  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 8, 2009 -> 07:01 PM) Has anyone actually seen Santos Rodriguez pitch in person? Does he throw a legit mid-90's from the LH side? Perhaps Jones or Rodriguez become the next Scott Radinsky or Boone Logan to basically jump from A ball to the bigs. There were reports of him hitting 100 coming over from the Braves organization. It's unlikely Jones makes the jump in spring and extremely unlikely Santos does it, but those are our two biggest relief arms from each side. If Jones comes out firing, throwing strikes, making everyone look stupid, then it's hard to deny an arm like that. If the Sox' best lefties in the competition happen to be trash like Randy Williams and Wes Whisler, then a guy like Santos is also going to be hard to deny if he is throwing good strikes. Hopefully Kenny brings in a legit lefty who is ready though. Nate Jones, if he keeps throwing strikes like he has been, should at least be a September callup next year. Edit: also, my guess is both are still pretty wild in the zone, so both need something else aside from the fastball. Jones has a hammer curve, but Santos I think is still developing a secondary pitch and doesn't have much to work off of. The Sox will probably take it slow with Santos, but Nate seems to be coming along well.
  19. ^Indeed. That's like saying Aqua Teen Hunger Force is better than the Simpsons when the show was in it's prime. ATHF is great and Carl is my hero, but nobody beats Homer, Barney, Apu, etc. Mr. Show was just the best, plain and simple. And if you're going to try to challenge it, IMO you need to be talking about prime SNL, SCTV, In Living Color, etc. Speaking of which (since I don't know how to post videos): Famous mouse in the bottle sketch High Q gameshow I also looked for the SCTV skit where Dave Thomas is the scottish chef who gets drunk baking scones and the SNL bathroom monkey skit with Jeneane Garofalo but couldn't find them.
  20. QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 8, 2009 -> 05:18 PM) Is he going to be ok after his testicle recovers? As long as it's still attached and he doesn't end up expelling it during intercourse then he should be fine. He needs to get into the habit of protecting the jewels though. Maybe Walk can help him with that one, or at least make a few suggestions because he can't *force* a player to cover his balls.
  21. Beltre battled injuries this year, and a change of scenery to the Cell and Ozzie could help him. I don't think he'll ever do what he did in LA again, but he could hit his career line of .270/.325/.454 with 20-30 HR depending on how he starts the year. It would be like having a healthy Crede back basically. Next year Beltre will be 31, so he's still young enough.
  22. QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 8, 2009 -> 05:07 PM) I think the Marlins would rather move Coghlan to 2b as a replacement for Uggla, but I could be wrong... Deal Getz elsewhere then. I just would love to see Beltre's glove at third and Ross' glove in the OF. Ross should still be available.
