  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 17, 2013 -> 09:36 AM) Usually, unless there is a compelling reason to not do so. Ripken was a great example of it, and that was 20 years ago. 12, but whatever. At least Ripken hit a homerun in that game. It's not like he got an infield single, and they decided to give it to Cal. It's not the end of the world. Sale got the win. But it was style over substance in the typical MLB/Fox way.
  2. Usually the guy who deserves the MVP, gets it. In this case, he did not. I'm not mad about it, but there's right and wrong...and this was wrong. It's typical 2013 marketing, pre-packaged, FOX, MLB, east coast biased, crap.
  3. Sale's MVP performance: http://wapc.mlb.com/play/?c_id=cws&con...0130717_9867534
  4. Holmberg got trounced the other night, and my first thought was... I bet that was in front of a lot of scouts. Great first half, and he turns 22 on Friday. I'd love to have him back in the organization. I really hope Quintana or Santiago get traded, because it means they had to include one of them to get a premium offensive player back. If they can replace one of them with Holmberg in a different deal, I'd take it.
  5. It would be so Jerry Reinsdorf if he gave Sale a car as a gesture of knowing he should have won.
  6. QUOTE (beautox @ Jul 16, 2013 -> 10:33 PM) I realize its his farewell tour and all but its just so f***ing forced, white sox bias aside Sale should've won the MVP... Thank you. I'm just tired of how pre-packaged all of this stuff is.
  7. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 16, 2013 -> 10:31 PM) Haha. Mo. Flavum stomps his feet in protest The wrong guy got the award. That's all there is to it.
  8. Lifetime Achievement Award. Bull s***.
  9. At least Sale got an All Star win. That's something. I'm not going to freak out anymore. He's the MVP in my mind, just like Crede was the World Series MVP.
  10. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 16, 2013 -> 10:27 PM) Reminds me of Ripken over Mags Yes!
  11. It would be nice if they actually gave the MVP to the guy that deserved it.
  12. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jul 16, 2013 -> 10:16 PM) guys he's mariano rivera, he deserves it. sale will get other shots f*** that s***. The correct pick is Chris Sale unless the NL mounts a comeback.
  13. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 16, 2013 -> 10:00 PM) It's an exhibition game MVP. Oh well It's still the right thing to do, and it would mean a lot to Chris Sale and his family. If Mariano wins, it's bulls***. Period.
  14. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 16, 2013 -> 09:49 PM) Unless Mariano blows it, the MVP is his, as much as I want Sale to have it Quite frankly, that would be f***ing bulls***.
  15. Man, Fox and MLB know how to kiss ass. Intentional Talk: That Was Awkward
  16. No seriously, if this game ends 2-0, Sale should be the MVP. He was the pitcher of pitchers for the AL. He should win it.
  17. Fans can vote for the MVP? That is so f***ing lame. I hate baseball sometimes.
  18. If there's no clear cut offensive pick, maybe Sale gets the MVP. Can't argue with 6 up 6 down.
  19. Why the hell would the starter only go one inning? Stupid.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 16, 2013 -> 10:22 AM) I think you guys read too much into the "leave them alone" thing. They aren't literally saying nothing. They are just not doing aggressive re-working with them. And I refuse to believe they haven't started doing more things with him, as he continues to struggle. That just makes no sense to me. But in Hawkins' case, I think it is certainly time for more drastic measures. I think we are seeing a player that isn't taking to coaching, at this point. That is the more likely scenario then, hey, we're just going to not say anything and see what happens. Buddy Bell seems to be on Rongey's show every Saturday. Maybe one of you guys on Twitter can ask Rongey to ask Bell specifically what is going on with Hawkins this year, and what are the plans in the offseason.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 16, 2013 -> 10:08 AM) I seriously can't fathom how anyone could honestly write and believe "it'd be over for him as a hitter" about a 20 year old. #1-- I said probably, meaning probable. Meaning more than likely. Not 100%. #2-- Good players don't struggle in A ball for two years. If he struggles two years in a row at A ball, yes, he's probably not good enough to make it the majors. That's just a fact.

QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 16, 2013 -> 10:00 AM) There's no way you'd continue to play him if he was being outright insubordinate. I have a feeling they're not working on his mechanics very much. I just don't know why. When I've heard Buddy Bell, he talks about leaving "the good ones" alone, and let them try to figure it out on their own. Obviously Hawkins is a very aggressive hitter, so if he's still on his own, he's failing on his own. This year is probably a lost cause, so it really comes down to breaking it down in the offseason, and coming back to Winston-Salem for a full season as a much better player. But if he's the same guy a year from now, it's probably over for him as a hitter.

I hope somebody gets through to him in the next year, or it'll be over.
  24. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 15, 2013 -> 10:03 PM) Which is why I never understand when i see posters use the rebuild word. But the offense doesn't put up 4-5-6 runs a night, and the farm system sucks. Trading Peavy is clearly the right move to make if they get the right offer. And if somebody wants to take on John Danks, you do it in a heartbeat.
  25. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 15, 2013 -> 09:43 PM) Looking at that rotation, whether we trade Peavy or not, that looks like a fantastic pitching staff It's definitely a rotation you could hang with if the offense was putting up 4-5-6 runs a night.
