  1. Looks like Hawkins blocked the sports writer for the Winston-Salem paper because he pointed out he had a golden sombrero. Nice to see Courtney runs to twitter right after the game to see what everyone is saying about him.
  2. Hopefully Hawkins goes to instructional league in the fall, learns some things, and has a better year at Winston-Salem in 2014.
  3. A's DFA'd Adam Rosales. I could see the Sox picking him up. He's not a regular, but versatile, and it doesn't hurt he's from Chicago.

    Jacob May homer
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 7, 2013 -> 04:08 PM) I think that's a terrible idea. Outside of Sale, these guys need innings. Sale does to a lesser extent. They haven't announced a makeup date with the Blue Jays yet. Once they do, the Sox have 4 off days after the break.
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 7, 2013 -> 04:06 PM) They need to come up with a plan to limit the innings/pitches the rest of the way for Sale/Quintana/Santiago. No more of this 120 pitch nonsense. I agree, and depending on what happens the rest of the month, a 6-man rotation shouldn't be out of the question.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 7, 2013 -> 04:00 PM) What was worse, 2007 or this? We're four games worse now, have no star offensive players, and haven't played the Tigers yet. This team is going to lose 95 minimum, and may knock on the door of 100 losses.

QUOTE (danman31 @ Jul 7, 2013 -> 03:49 PM) That's a fair point, but no one in baseball saw this coming. Everyone was giddy over what he did at the end of last season. Including the Sox brass who are supposed to know better. Buddy Bell was on the Score yesterday. He's still giddy over Jared Mitchell even though everyone knows he's a bust. Those guys are way too emotional about their favorites. They probably got overly excited about Hawkins' playoff performance last year, and pushed him too hard this year. There was no point in starting him at Winston-Salem.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 7, 2013 -> 03:35 PM) 0-4, 3k on the day for Hawkins so far. It's been a while since he homered. They flat out blew it starting him at W-S at 19. The Twins just moved Buxton up to high-A. Why? Because he earned it.
  10. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 7, 2013 -> 03:26 PM) Good lord is our post-game show bad If you're referring to Rongey, yes. On the trade possibilities, yeah we get it. Some trades might happen this month. Some might be in August. Some might be in November and December. Or next July. I'll be patient because this team is irrelevant in 2013 and 2014.

Should have quit while they were ahead with Rienzo. 8 shutout innings. He now has bases loaded, no out in the 9th. Got the CG --2 runs

Engel might be a huge sleeper, but he's got to get out of this short season league.
  13. I think there's a solid chance the Sox don't win another game before the break. Maybe if Sale shuts down the Tigers completely they get a win, but we've seen how that's gone lately.

http://www.milb.com/scoreboard/index.jsp?c...mp;ymd=20130707 Micah Johnson triple. Birmingham soon?
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 7, 2013 -> 11:59 AM) Tied with the Brew Crew for 3rd pick, technically ahead of them percentage-wise (or behind, depending on how you want to look at being bad as a good thing). I just looked at the draft results on B-R. Overall #1 is huge in some years, but the difference between picks 2 through 6 is very little. 1- 42-49/ 21.1 WAR 2- 41-49 made the majors. Average career WAR 14.2 3- 39 made/12.6 average WAR 4- 38/14.4 5- 29/12.1 6- 35/14.1 So I guess it's a good thing to have as many options as possible, but it's such a crap shoot no matter what.
  16. Ramirez SS Beckham 2B Rios RF Keppinger 1B Phegley C Viciedo DH Morel 3B Wells LF Tekotte CF 50 losses down. 50 to go. Let's do this!
  17. Sounds like he pronounces it Mike-er, and I heard Buddy Bell say it the same way yesterday. Bell said Zapata will visit the Bristol club and workout with them...he can't play. Then Instructional League this fall, and I think he said Dominican summer league next year. BTW-- this was his father's minor league stats... http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/p...id=adolfo001car
  18. QUOTE (Lillian @ Jul 7, 2013 -> 08:21 AM) Adam Dunn is certainly not one of my favorite players, but it's pretty scary to contemplate about what that Tiger's starting rotation will do to the Sox, without Dunn's left handed presence. All of those dominate RH pitchers will mow down our pathetic lineup with ease. And, we have the entire season's head to head competition vs Detroit still ahead of us. Ouch! With or without Dunn, I'd be surprised if the Sox do better than 4-15 vs the Tigers.
  19. They should bat Beckham 3rd the rest of the season just to see what happens.
  20. It would be pretty funny if the Sox were 15 games behind the Tigers before playing them. That would probably shut up Hawk (on that subject).
  21. Crain and Sale made it. Obviously Crain will be replaced, but he gets the honor.
  22. And of course Phegley sits today.
  23. Get that trade value up, Alex.

    Semien homer. Very solid season.
