QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 27, 2012 -> 09:14 AM) Bob Nightengale @BNightengale Scherzer scratched from Friday start and Smyly now replaces him for #Tigers Because they know they have this and they'd rather have him for the playoffs.

QUOTE (SI1020 @ Sep 27, 2012 -> 08:51 AM) I agree, and think .500 may be optimistic. Of course I reserve the right to change my mind if Hahn or KW, whoever is in charge is able to pull some rabbits out of a hat in the off season. The Sox plan should be to take on short term deals for players that could catch lightning in a bottle, while drafting and developing their own players. No more signings or acquisitions of guys like Peavy, Dunn, and Rios. The Sox desperately need to have a couple 20-something stars over the next few years. Sale is there, but offensively, it would be nice if Trayce Thompson, Carlos Sanchez, and Jered Mitchell panned out. And then Hawkins in 2-3 years. I hope Hahn has some different views than Kenny, and he'll actually be allowed to do them. My fear is Kenny doesn't have to do the grunt work anymore, but Hahn has to execute Kenny's plan and get approval on everything.

Wild Card: Bal 89-67 +0.5 Oak 88-67 -- LAA 86-69 2.0 TB 85-70 3.0 I don't want the Sox to contribute to the Rays getting back in this, but it's not impossible all 4 team finish 90-72 or 91-71. Bal 1-5 or 2-4 Oak 2-5 or 3-4 LAA 4-3 or 5-2 TB 5-2 or 6-1 Could happen.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 26, 2012 -> 11:33 PM) I'd bring back AJ. If you start having to chase to find a new catcher, 3b and a righty starter, it's not going to be good. They can find somebody. I don't think they'll be good next year anyway. I'm ready to move on from the AJ/Konerko Era. AJ this year, Konerko next year.

I'd keep Chris Sale, let every FA go, and listen on everyone else.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 26, 2012 -> 12:47 PM) Sox will lose. That's the spirit. (but probably, yeah) -
Just caught the first couple episodes of The Franchise last night. You see where teams are garbage, and it starts at the top. That Loria/Samson/Beinfest thing is awful. These guys are all clowns. And when you add a personality like Ozzie, you can see where it will go off the tracks in a hurry. Ozzie's act only worked here for a very short time, and only because Jerry Reinsdorf gave him a TON of slack. Ozzie has the potential to be very good for Baseball. He's not a bad guy, but he can't manage a team because his own ego will get in the way. If he wants to do some studio TV work, he'd probably be pretty good at that. But he shouldn't manage anymore, and I don't think any team will even give him that opportunity again after this is over in Miami.

What will be, will be. They know what's on the line with these 8 games. They'll try, and the team with more wins goes to the playoffs. -
Coolstandings: Tigers 51.5% White Sox 48.5% Just my own observation...Tigers 70%, White Sox 30%

QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Sep 25, 2012 -> 04:47 PM) OK. I'll say it. Right now, this team doesn't deserve a playoff spot. Neither team does. This is a function of divisional baseball and the unbalanced schedule. A mediocre team is making the playoffs. I hope it's us. -

Tigers next five games, they face Chen, Guthrie, Mendoza, Diamond, and Walters. They should be able to lose 2 or 3 of those....hopefully.

How about a rare laugher today? Score 7 runs in the first few innings, Liriano sails through 7 innings, nobody gets hurt. -
I guess they're putting all their eggs in winning this thing in 162 games. Hope it works.

Yankees with a 1.5 game lead on Baltimore. Wildcard getting interesting: Bal 88-66 +1.5 Oak 86-67 -- LAA 84-69 2.0 TB 83-70 3.0 Go O's. Go A's. Go Sox. Go Royals.

I'll take the division anyway we can, but there's part of me that wants the Tigers to go 7-3 or 8-2 these last 10, and we match them every step of the way. -

Score 5 runs. Get a quality start. You win a lot of those games. Close it out. -
Looks the Rays moved their rotation around. Now it'll be Shields, Moore, Hellickson, and Price. And the Sox may decide for a 6th starter on Wednesday, failing to realize they're in the final 10 games of the season. But if they keep a 5-man, it's: Quintana, Floyd, Sale, Liriano
