  1. A little too soon to start using the term "sunk cost" for Rios and Dunn. Rios -- 3 years, 38 mil Dunn -- 3 years, 44 mil They have to play them from the start of the season like the highly-paid veterans that they are. If they get to 2014 still underperforming, then maybe you just eat the last year. That's the time to call it sunk cost.
  2. I think it will be: De Aza CF Ramirez SS Konerko 1B Dunn DH Rios LF Viciedo RF Pierzynski C Morel 3B Beckham 2B L-R-R-L-R-R-L-R-R That's best case scenario with Dunn and Rios doing ok. By the way, when the Sox brought Beckham up in 2009, do you think they probably had him penciled in as a 3-hole hitter by 2012? Kinda sad he's a 9-hole hitter still.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 3, 2012 -> 10:24 AM) DeAza is a great guy to have as a 4th OF. He might be better than that, and if there was ever a year to give De Aza a full oportunity to be an every day player, this is the year. A reminder of what his full year was like between Charlotte and Chicago: 153 games, 174-537 (.324), 93 runs, 61 xbh, 60 rbis, 34 sb And he hit .329 in 54 games with the Sox, with a .400 obp. He deserves a chance to play every day.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 3, 2012 -> 08:27 AM) Posted for no other reason than we know the Sox have had interest in the recent past. ChiTribRogers Phil Rogers Coco Crisp, rumored to be signing soon, fits w/#whitesox, who spent weekend clearing salary. Does KW trust Alejandro de Aza? Kenny has been on record that he does like De Aza to play every day, but it's up to Ventura of where he plays and what spot in the lineup. Pretty obvious De Aza will be leading off and playing CF on opening day. I'd say the Sox are in need of a lefty bat off the bench that can play a little 3B. Uh, who is the back up at 3B? Personally, I'd like Tyler Kuhn to have a spot on the roster. He can play anywhere, pinch run, pinch hit, and give a guy a day off here and there.

  6. QUOTE (oldsox @ Dec 31, 2011 -> 02:03 PM) Neither one of these guys were on the San Diego 40 man roster. We are now down to 35 on ours. Why did we expose Doyle again? Actually both are listed on the Padres 40-man. So the Sox are at 37 now.
  7. Salary dump. Nothing more. Nothing less. If they were going to get anything, it would have been in a package deal with either Floyd or Thornton. Hopefully Kenny is done now, and they just try to win the first few months of the season. If not, they'll have a lot to offer in July.
  8. QUOTE (striker @ Dec 28, 2011 -> 09:57 PM) 1 month until Soxfest About 6 weeks until Pitchers/Catches report 8 weeks. February 23.
  9. The 7/31/91 game is being replayed on CSN today at 3:00.
  10. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 22, 2011 -> 04:32 PM) During the KW years, the Sox have won bidding on two players: Ramirez and Viciedo. Seems to me those have both worked out pretty well so far. It is always a gamble, but your fear seems to have no roots in reality. I guess my point is this guy has been hyped a lot before the bidding started. If he were that great, then the Phillies and Yankees would be forking over the cash. It sounds as if the Yankees don't have much interest, or won't bid a lot for him. Maybe this guy is very good, and he wants to come to the Sox just because of Alexei and Viciedo. We'll see.
  11. Carlos Beltran 2 yr deal with the Cardinals.
  12. I fear that if the Sox are in the lead for this guy, he's not that good.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 22, 2011 -> 01:09 PM) Buster_ESPN Buster Olney Oakland moving closer to a Gio Gonzalez trade, with the bidding down to two teams -- Washington is one, perhaps MIA or BOS the other. Any day now....please.
  14. Don't expect year-by-year terms, no-trade info, etc, or even a comment from Kenny until next week after Danks passes a physical.
  15. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 08:33 PM) Danks could be traded at anytime.. It happened to Bronson Arroyo as well as Sergio.. Ok, I may have been confusing it with signing free agents. In that case, he has more trade value now, but I still hope they play out the first few months of the 2012 season with Peavy, Danks, Floyd, Humber, and Sale.
  16. I think Kenny's definition of rebuilding is a longterm process rather than just a one offseason purge. He probably intended to move Danks, but didn't get a deal he liked. That's fair.
  17. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 08:22 PM) Oh I want to punch this guy in the face. Agreed. And it's so much more than just being anti-white sox.
  18. Forgive me if I'm wrong, but isn't there a rule about signing a player and then immediately trading him? Anyway, I would have never believed Quentin would be on the roster at Christmas, so I'll say he's the next move.
  19. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 07:55 PM) Wow, that K0na guy REALLY knows his s***. I just hope he keeps getting this stuff.
  20. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 04:38 PM) If Danks does sign an extension sometime soon and the terms are close to 5/$65M then Doug Seyller deserves are undying respect because no writer whether national or otherwise has even hinted that the Sox and Danks are even talking and yet some f***ing Art Designer with 182 followers on twitter already has a dollar amount out there. This would be at least his 3rd big get. Obviously this guy knows somebody, or he's hacked into somebody's email. You would think after the last couple times, Kenny would find out who knows him and put an end to it....not that I'm complaining.
  21. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 04:07 PM) I dont think it is a dealbreaker, but lets be honest, our top two relievers are no longer in the bullpen with Santos traded and Sale moving to a starter. There is a lot of question marks in the bullpen after Crain/Thornton at the moment. Frasor and Ohman were spotty at best Fair enough, but Frasor has a good track record. Ohman is just a guy that every team has... loogy, and long relief when the team is losing. I like Axelrod as a long reliver/spot starter. Bullpens are so hard to predict. I don't think it's a given Santos is any good for the Jays either. One thing I know...the Sox need starting pitching in their pipeline. Molina gives them one.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 03:59 PM) If that's the rotation, having a strong and deep bullpen should be mandatory. Thank Goodness we didn't trade away any relievers this offseason. I can't promise this will work out, because I have no idea, but what if they felt getting a good starting pitcher in the system was more important than having Santos another year when they have a lot of confidence in Reed? If they keep Thornton, Ohman, Frasor, Crain, and Reed along with some long relief, that should be enough...and Molina will be at AA and be ready to go in 2013 at the latest. I just don't think Santos being traded is a deal breaker when it comes to the Sox competing in 2012.
  23. It does make some sense if Kenny exhausted his efforts to trade him, and then he went back to Danks' agent and told him what other teams think of him. Maybe that's what made Danks want to get locked up now, instead of risking back-to-back bad years. I'm happy. I hope they stick with Peavy, Danks, Floyd, Humber, and Sale and just hope for the best with the lineup.
  24. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 03:11 PM) 3/54 would make sense from JR's philosophy about pitcher's contracts. More like 4/54. 2012: 12 2013: 13 2014: 14 2015: 15 That's more White Soxie.
