I can't remember the last time a 25 year old player with this kind of talent has been this "available". Local dude, only 740 career at-bats, and he has a Jacoby Ellsbury circa 2011 skill set. But because Kenny Williams currently employs three everyday designated hitters, there really isn't an outfield spot for Bourjos. It is a shame because he is going to be a better player than anyone in our organization. At least the Sox aren't blocking him with Vernon Wells.

I remember thinking 1B would be the only position Dayan could/would/should play back when we were watching youtube videos of his fatass taking BP in Cuba. Too bad KW has already allocated 20MIL+ a season, for the foreseeable future at DH/1B. The Sox (and much of the AL) have had horrendous outfielders in LF for almost a decade now, so I guess I am used to it. As long as Morel and Gordon can stay in the lineup the Sox, they will have plus defenders at 2B, SS, 3B and RF; and prolly average in CF and maybe C. PK is a bad first basemen by most accounts, but at least he is sure handed so it isn't a nerve-wracking kind of bad. On a whole the defense should be very good, especially since the three reserves (Lilli, Fukudome and Flowers) are all above average at their respective positions.

Anyone pick up any game used merch? I have always been curious what that stuff went for at SoxFest.

2012 Cuban signees thread Cespedes/Soler/Concepcion

I'll speculate that less than 2% of the top American born athletes are concentrating on baseball. I'd really concentrate my scouting/development/drafting efforts abroad. -

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 17, 2012 -> 03:38 PM) I don't see why teams would give up much at all for Floyd. He's not even league average. If/when the Sox deal Floyd, there are going to be some upset posters here given what should be a pretty lackluster return. Gavin Floyd has more value than 75% of current projected starting pitchers in the league. - Decent contract situation - Has above average "stuff" - Excellent health history and outlook -Pitches in the American League in hitter's park - Entering his "prime years" I'd at the very least gamble on his value increasing over the next 18 months.

If Mark could somehow manage to get his act together defensively at 3B he could play another decade in this league... even without improving his offense. Many teams in this league (including the Sox) need a left handed third baseman to platoon with their right handed starter. I wish Mark the best of luck and hope that he realizes that his opportunity is at third.

I kind of got he feeling from listening to the interview that Jake basically has come to grips with he fact that he just doesn't have it anymore.

Molina is obviously someone Kenny (or someone in the organization) fell in love with but couldn't quite squeeze out in the Edwin Jackson deal.

Unless you are a pitcher or Cuban, I don't gvie a f*** if you are back in 2012.

Greg Walker left tonights game early because he needed to go to Best Buy because he needed a new memory card for his digital camera.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 1, 2011 -> 09:58 AM) Why is that even needed? It wasn't, I just get very upset that most fans of this team can't seem to understand that it is a very viable strategy to not always be in "protect mode" every time you get two strikes... especially players with approaches like Dunn/Swisher/anyone who walks more than 75 times per year.

QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Aug 1, 2011 -> 10:55 AM) In fact, I'm guessing no player in the history of baseball has ever gotten on base by watching strike 3 go by without swinging at it. Not that I want to discuss this aspect of the game but you are very incorrect. Does anyone here actually watch baseball or do you just b**** about it on the internet?

QUOTE (Middle Buffalo @ Aug 1, 2011 -> 07:18 AM) I've never seen a guy look at more 3rd strikes than Adam Dunn. It's one thing to strike out 3 times per game, but to strike out looking as often as he does is awful. A strikeout is a strikeout. It is ignorant, hillbilly logic to prefer that a player "go down swingin' ". That same idiotic logic helped run Nick Swisher out of town.

Confirmed: White Sox claim on Alex Rios on waivers
GREEDY replied to prochisox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I thought a bit about KW claiming Rios today and I have concluded that it was a botched "block" of a deal to the Tigers. My take is: I am not aware of a player with anywhere near the money that was owed to Rios EVER being claimed outright and have his current team just let him go. Plenty of players with contracts that would/should allow them to completely pass through waivers have been traded over the years. It is common place for a charity low level prospect or three, or even the infamous "player to be named later" to be traded to"save face" for the GM/Franchise that is "giving up" the player. This KW/Toronto "no deal" is the only one of it's kind, EVER. If it wasn't a botched "block" the only reasoning could possibly be is that KW was being terribly bull-headed and didn't want to give Riccardi a "token player" just to boost his own personal ego/reputation; which IMHO is completely bush-league. Why try to make Riccardi look bad? Why burn a bridge that didn't need burned? Even KW wouldn't do that... Therefore, I truly believe that Kenny was trying to block a deal to the Tigers and even at the last second still didn't believe Riccardi would just "let" Rios go. And the fact supporting the idea that KW had no intention of actually acquiring Rios is demonstrated by KW's unwillingness give a "bag of balls" back to Toronto in return. -
that's what she said

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 19, 2011 -> 09:59 PM) As much as I hate Walker, it's not like he had much to work with in the lineup we had tonight. Three guys out of the nine should be in AAA (Flowers, Lillibridge, Morel). Pierre and Beckham can only do so much offensively as well. I think it's time we just realize this is a pretty average roster we have. Danny f***ing Duffy!

Can anyone name a young player groomed by Greg Walker that has developed a patient approach at the plate? Krispie Young is all I can come up with and I honestly don't know how much time with "Walk" he had.
