  1. QUOTE (qwerty @ Apr 1, 2009 -> 07:32 PM) Past tense. Not really a kid either Can't believe I got a 5 minutes pass on that.
  2. To the group of people that seem to have recently become enamored with our prospects: Dallas McPherson was a bigger prospect than any prospect the White Sox have had since Frank. I'd give the kid a big league contract if that is what it took. Coop'll fixem!
  3. How can a guy go from penciled in at leadoff for a contender, to 61 spring training at-bats later he is clearing waivers? The only way I could stomach Kenny's handling of the position this offseason was thinking that he honestly believed an Owens/Anderson platoon was better than the available options. Then to cut a guy 61 at-bats later makes this hard to believe, then on top of that no other franchise would sign Owens for the minimum??? If my 18 year old secretary was asked to sum up my feelings in a text message she would send: WTF KENNY!!!!
  4. I just don't understand how a guy that wouldn't make any other team's roster, is leading off and playing centerfield for a contender?
  5. QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Mar 30, 2009 -> 11:48 AM) i guess its something i dont understand. if you don't want to sign autographs, that's fine. but as you are jogging back to the dugout after warmups, how hard is it to waive to the fans and say Hi... or Go Sox or something like that? I guess they call it "big-leaguing" for a reason. The people screaming are generally not saying anything like: "Go Sox" or "Hi", they are saying "Can You" or "Will You" or "Please". This is just my experience.
  6. QUOTE (Soxpranos @ Mar 30, 2009 -> 02:20 PM) Well said . To an extent, I am going to have to disagree with you guys. I think many people "follow" a certain team, and even pull for them to win... but they are not fans. Fans is short for Fantatics. I follow the White Sox, attend 10+ games a year, I even root for the White Sox, but I am not a fanatic. I enjoy the watching and talking about baseball. I do not have any autographs, I do not wear player's jerseys etc. If I think KW/Ozzie/Whomever makes a bad move and inserts a player into the lineup, I will root for them to fail. I will be pleasently surprised if they succeed, but I will feel vindicated when it is June and Wise's OBP is sub 300. Back to your regularly scheduled roster cuts discussion
  7. QUOTE (lostfan @ Mar 29, 2009 -> 06:42 PM) Really? There's lots of posters on this board who aren't sold on Alexei being a solid defensive SS, myself included. If you started a thread along the lines of "Do you think Alexei will be a below average defensive SS?" you'd probably get quite a few in that camp. I tried to find it but the search isn't working or I can't figure out how to use it.
  8. QUOTE (DanksFan @ Mar 29, 2009 -> 01:54 PM) Since no one else has said anything yet, I guess I will be the first to say it. wtf? Actually this is one of your better threads Cubano. That side of the infield is going to be VERY raw this season. I remember early in the offseason I rated Alexei as a below average defensive shortstop; and I really got ripped a new one for it. So much so that even I started to believe I was wrong. But so far Alexei hasn't shown me anything that would lead me to believe he will be an above average SS in '09. Sure, he'll make a few plays others wouldn't, but he is really going to rack up the errors. If I hear Hawk refer to Alexei's arm like it is legendary one more time this spring I am going to puke. Sure he had an big time cannon for a second baseman, and even at shortstop it is impressive, but c'mon now Hawk. Also, don't forget that Ozzie is destined to find plenty of starts for Betemit in the infield; that certaintly won't help keep the error total down.
  9. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Mar 29, 2009 -> 02:47 PM) I'd like that too. I'm fine with Anderson getting a shot every day. I'm fine with an Anderson platoon if the other guy can play CF. I'm fine with a trade for another full-time starting CF, as long as that guy can also play defense, and as long as that guy is either very cheap in terms of talent, or very expensive in terms of talent but acts as a long-term solution. The only thing I'm not fine with is a bad LF in CF. I hope the Sox don't follow that formula, and if Josh Anderson is out there, and we can get him for the Links and Santelizes of the world instead of the Allens and Danks' and Poredas, then I make that deal. You summed it up perfectly... all I DON'T want is prolly what KW will do: Try and stick a LF in CF.
  10. QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Mar 25, 2009 -> 10:30 PM) I have a team drafted, but we have the supplemental draft next week, which allows me to add 6 extra players. Can you help me determind who are the best players to draft (there are quite a few players) Pitchers Kawakami, Arroyo, Owings, Annibel Sanchez, Parra, Blanton, Ohlendorf, Chris Young, Jon Sanchez, Lohse, Lannan, Guthrie, Uehara, Masterson, Reyes, Meche, Edwin Jackson, Slowey, Litsch Postion Players Pudge, John Baker, Nick Hundley Helton, Gaby Sanchey, Ishikaawa, Mike Jacobs, Barmes, Hudson, Schumaker, Getz, Andrus, Bill Hall, Glaus, Fokudome, SEth Smith, Spilbourgs, Cody Ross, Camerson, Daniel Murphy(Mets), Jose Guillen, Winn, Baldelli, Shin Sin Choo, Travis Nider, Ryan Sweeney. As always your help is appreciated. Choo (I overrate Choo because I play in a league w/ BB and OPS, but he is a very nice player) Baker (top 10 catcher, batting 2nd) Lannan Snider Spilbourgs Parra G Sanchez Jacobs Helton Glaus J Sanchez Slowley Winn (was a top 75 player in my previously mentioned league in '08) Andrus
  11. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 27, 2009 -> 12:50 PM) But it's just irresponsible for a contender to enter spring training without a reasonably viable option at a particular position, BINGO. The only reasonable explanation I can fathom is that KW believed in Owens being at least viable enough to platoon with Anderson. This is downright ridiculous.
  12. UNDER 78 Wins. We will blame the pitching, but the defense will be the real culprit. Royals win the division.
  13. Dewayne Wise wouldn't make any other major league ballclub; but somehow his ass is going to be starting on Opening Day for a Chicago team. There was no unexpected injuries that backed us into this mss, no unexpected retirement, no suspensions... how is this acceptable?

    Eastbound and Down

    For you guys that like Eastbound you need to drop everything, and absolutely RUN to your f***ing blockbuster and rent The Foot Fist Way. It is all the same guys, the same writers, it is just about the same idea as Eastbound, except McBride is a TaeKwonDo (sp?) instructer instead of a down and out reliever. No HBO budget, but even funnier than Eastbound.
  15. QUOTE (smalls2598 @ Mar 24, 2009 -> 12:30 PM) I'm also in league 4 and fear it's not going to fill up by draft day. Can I jump into league 2?? I signed up and noticed I was 11. If you want to go with 10 just let me know and I'll drop out. Otherwise, you are all going to lose
  16. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Mar 24, 2009 -> 06:03 AM) Damn, I forgot how bad Jeff Francoeur was. But fair enough. I guess being a Sox fan and obviously seeing Swisher on an every game basis made it seem like he was one of the worst players out there. BINGO! And that is where you are dead wrong. Just because Swisher took what seemed like a ton of called third strikes, then grimaced like he just swallowed Ozzie's spit cup, doesn't mean he was one of the worst offensive players in the league last season. It also doesn't help that the guy you essentially watch the games with (Hawk), hates taking a called third more than he hates watching DJ's ass try to chip in from bunker 100 ft away. Swisher needs to work on the Scott Podsednik half swing and emotionless walk back to the dugout. Player A: 65 R/21 HR/77 RBI/.317 OBP/22 2B Player B: 86 R/24 HR/69 RBI/.332 OBP/21 2B Player A was recently annointed the future of the franchise and a will clearly be a fan favorite for years to come. While Player B was dealt and would have been run out of town by an angry mob if KW hadn't moved him. Player A had Soxtalk posters clamoring for him to win a postseason award, Player B had Soxtalk posters saying he was one of the 10 worst offensive players in baseball in '08.
  17. QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ Mar 22, 2009 -> 05:05 PM) Melky Cabrera??? Yes Please.
  18. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Mar 21, 2009 -> 02:02 AM) I'm sure most knew that Konerkos ass would be on that list, but in the history "killer"? Makes sense. Interesting read, thanks for posting it. I have comments but I won't "ruin" the WSox surprises until more have read.
  19. How many in that long list of quarterbacks have looked excellent one year and borderline bad the next??? Almost all of them! How can that be???? Maybe their circumstance, the situation AROUND THEM, changed: for the worse.
  20. QUOTE (SoxFan101 @ Mar 18, 2009 -> 09:41 PM) Yeah, that is ridiculous. A quarterback cant be good in chicago because of the weather?!?! I mean you are aware that Denver has a ton of snow too, and a good amount of NFL teams are in cold environments with bad weather similar to Chicago or worse.... You are wrong. It is not the least bit ridiculous to say that you believe the Bears would be much better suited with a game manager, as opposed to a gunslinger, because of their current roster makeup and the tough conditions they play several games in per season. I am not saying that Cutler isn't a good quarterback, nor is it saying that I prefer Orton. I am saying that Cutler isn't "free for the hauling", and I wouldn't give up value to bring in any player that isn't a good fit for this team.
  21. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 18, 2009 -> 05:02 PM) So no QB can ever be good in Chicago? You must have missed the word "current". BUT to an extent you are correct (depends on what you consider "good").... Because of the elements in Chicago I not sure the Bears should go out of their way to try and acquire anyone that doesn't at least error towards being a game manager as opposed to a risk taker.
  22. I am a firm believer that 75% of a quarterback's success is determined by his situation. Here is the situation in Chicago: The Bears play a minimum of four games in horrendous conditions. The Bears currently have zero or very limited playmaking ability on offense. The Bears offensive line is not a strong point. Why would the Bears want a risk taking, win or lose you the game, gunslinging quarterback??? Let alone give up tons of picks for one??? Cutler is great... but not in the Bears current situation.
  23. QUOTE (MattZakrowski @ Mar 13, 2009 -> 01:43 PM) I see Alexei as a good 3 hitter on most teams, because of his high contact skills and being fast enough to not clog the bases, but TCQ and JD are both great guys for the 3 hole as it is, so with this club, I like Alexei down it the order more, like 6 or 7th. You are 100% spot on.
  24. I am not saying he is the "end all" but Bill James rated AliceYaaaay! the 27th best 2nd baseman in '08; That is BAD. I am not saying it is the "end all" but RZR rates The Cubman Missaaaale third to worst out of qualifying 2nd basemen in '08; That is BAD. In his first year in MLB at SS, Alexbobbyseay will be a BELOW AVERAGE SS. ------- Even if you fellas are confident in Nix's defense, do you really think Nix is going to start enough games at 2nd to consider us ABOVE AVERAGE there defensively? ------- Apparently everyone is confident we aren't looking at a Collander/Fields platoon at 3rd... I am not. Even if the Fields Defense KoolAid is a sippin' I am not confident Ozzie can control himself and leave Josh alone at the hot corner. If Betemit even starts 25 games at 3rd (I wouldn't be suprised if it is more like 75) that pushes whatever skills Josh all of a sudden has to: BAD. ------ With JD in RF we need all the help we can get in CF. Coco Crisp would have been nice (never thought I'd say that one). ------ Finally, while obv. I buy the Cell as a hitter's park, I am not buying that "hitting comes first" there. I think the way the ball flies out of park in the summer makes defense that much more important. If Owens doesn't make a play in center, that is just that many pitches Buehrle has to throw with men on base and that is just that much quicker that you get into the pen. Poor defense exposes our pitchers just that much more.
