QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 3, 2014 -> 12:15 PM) And we had our first operating loss in forever?sox "lost" money in 2011.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 2, 2014 -> 07:36 AM) [/b] If the network wanted to survive, you can bet the Cubs would be on it. Sports channel did just fine before they got the cubs. Carriage fees are what's preventing 70% of the lis Angeles area from seeing the dodgers on tv right now. If the cubs were to launch on a new station, there's no guarantee that directv, comcast, and other providers will pay fox' rate. Jerry and the other teams FORCED csn Chicago to Make deals with all carriers BEFORE launch. Jerry did my want a repeat of the sportsvision era. That's also why they didn't take more money in 2004 for the rights. If fox ends up giving the cubs 200 million a year for game rights, you bet your ass they will charge cable companies a premium for the channel.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Apr 1, 2014 -> 05:34 PM) The Sox have leverage because where they go the Bulls will be brought along. If Fox Sports wants to get back in the Chicago market that's a good start. Would the Hawks follow the Sox or stick with the Cubs? I would guess they stick with the sox/bulls. Rocky considers jerry a mentor, and they are partners in the UC. Also, csn Chicago has carriage on all cable providers in the city. A new channel with the cubs is not guaranteed to be seen in t eh whole city.

QUOTE (joeynach @ Apr 1, 2014 -> 05:01 PM) Um really, If I was Sprint and I can get access to the naming rights to a major league ballpark in a city I am looking to expand my footprint and customer base in and all I had to pay was $3.4M a year for the next 10 years.....I'm feeling I hit the jackpot. Thats a bargain by today's standards, in price and years. Look at what Citi pays to the mets per year, $20M, look what AT&T pays the cowboys every year, $19M. Sprint gets a ballpark naming rights deal for 10 years $34M if they would have included it in their takeover of US Cellular, seems like a no brainier to me. Strange that US Cellular didn't want to budge. again, the stadium bonds issue may prevent it. USC didnt shut down or get bought.

QUOTE (joeynach @ Apr 1, 2014 -> 05:03 PM) Since when are companies trying to pull back on that kind of spending, most of the fortune 500 are at record high profit margins and have you seen stock the stock market lately, record highs upon record highs. ATT named Cowboys stadium for $19M per year. Insane.the cowboys deal is actually below market highs. citi pays about 30 million plus for the mets stadium rights

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Apr 1, 2014 -> 12:43 PM) More interested in the AAV of the TV deal than the ownership stake. Several teams are cashing in with huge AAV's, like the Rangers, Phillies, Dodgers, and Angels. Not to mention what the Yankees get. The Sox get about $45M/season in their current TV deal. Other teams deals that have been signed recently - Padres $60M, Astros $80M, Rangers $80M plus $100M one time fee, Angels $147M, Dodgers $280M, and Phillies $100M. The Cubs and Sox deals both expire in 2019, so Comcast will have them to play against each other in their bidding, unless the Sox want to jump to another network.cubs will likely leave csn in 2019. whatever deal they get by leaving wgn will likely be connected to a future cable partner. If fox grabs the cubs, they will not be paying 100 million to have games on channel 50 only. Sox have the right of first refusal to buy the cubs share in csn. remember, the bulls stake is technically separate(although jim corno running the station clearly was a reinsdorf move). One of two things will happen. either the sox buy the cubs stake, or jerry lets rocky and the hawks buy it. if option b happens, then both jerry and rocky will be somewhat equal in control(and profit) of the station.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 1, 2014 -> 12:01 PM) I am not convinced that a really good market is left though. there are a few options for teams that have poor attendance and media deals. like tampa or oakland. the sox get 45 million a year from csn RIGHT NOW. that's not counting the wgn or national money.

Ozzie returning to White Sox as team ambassador
ewokpelts replied to ron883's topic in Pale Hose Talk
he has 2 years left on his marlins exile/contract. will he give up 4 million or so to take a job anywhere? i say no. he'll do tv til then, and MAYBE we'll see him somewhere in mlb. just not with the sox. at least for a few more years. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 1, 2014 -> 11:06 AM) Things are going to have to change A LOT in Illinois for the Sox to get a new ballpark in the next 15 years. They just basically laughed in the Cubs face when they asked for dollars for a remodel. I can't see this ownership group taking on a billion dollars or so in debt to get a stadium done in the future.2033 ASG is the 100th anniversary. I doubt the sox will be in the cell by then. plus, the bonds will be paid off, and the sox will not be contractually bound to play there(lease was extended from from it's original date of 2011 to 2029 through out the course of various bond issue sand renovation projects). Sox have a lot of leverage in a negotiation.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 31, 2014 -> 01:22 PM) Plus Sprint already has their basketball/hockey/concerts stadium in downtown KC.at&t has thier name on at least FIVE arenas/stadiums. not uncommon. the 2006 nba finals featured teams that played in facilities that american airlines had naming rights to.
-
Remember, the naming rights money is DIRECTLY TIED into a stadium bonds issue. The 68 million was expressly committed to paying the bonds issue of 2003. The language in the bonds must be satisfied. if US Cellular is the only entity that pays the bonds, then they are locked into the agreement. that said, if the sox can work out a deal with IFSA to put the rights out to market(with potentially paying off the 68 million bond issue sooner than later), then i easily see the rights being worth 3-4 times what US Cellular paid per year. the flip side is that the sox will likely be out of the cell by 2029, and the us cellular deal ends in 2026. so a deal for 12-15 years won't get as much as a 25-30 year deal.

QUOTE (joeynach @ Mar 30, 2014 -> 04:32 PM) About a year ago when I heard that US Cellular was exiting the Chicago market and selling their spectrum and customers to Sprint I emailed Brooks and asked if he was aware US Cellular was folding in Chicago and what the Sox would do. Being that the Corp sponsor whose name is on the stadium will no longer be present in this market I too found it strange. Brooks responded something along the lines of "We are aware of the situation with US Cellular and will be making arrangements". I remember when the Sox announced this partnership with US Cellular in 2003 I was thinking its only a matter of time before US Cellular becomes Sprint or Verizon anyway. I figured at the time I'd give it 5 years before US Cellular Field turned into Verizon or Sprint Field (the other large CDMA service providers). I asked my guy at the sox about this. He said us cellular have the rights contractually. It's not the sox call on who replaces them. Basically, it's in us celluar's court. The man who brokered the deal, Jack Rooney, is no longer with us. And new management may not feel that the contract is worth the money. It's all conjecture at this point.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 26, 2014 -> 08:05 AM) Reps can be very helpful, and starting a relationship with one has benefits. They can tell you things the online site may not yet know. And in the future, they can help you out.Working through a rep makes things easier. From better locations than what tm/best available offers, to help with extra seats or parking. My two previous guys, Brian(who i worked with on season and group tix) and Reynel(who's now in groups), made sure to get me low row aisle seats(uppers) for my 7 and 14 game plans. And when I accidentally sen tin rain out tickets with my exchange seats, reynel sent me vouchers to a 2014 game so that i still got the rainout benefit.

QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Mar 26, 2014 -> 06:23 AM) I been in and out this thread because I'm pretty sure I'm getting a 7 game plan, is there any difference to opening up the plan up through a rep or online in your opinion? If you like paying fees, go online. if you like not paying fees, call a rep.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Mar 26, 2014 -> 04:33 PM) Anyone know what it costs to get seats in the Bullpen Bar? I was just looking up info, and it said for a nominal price I can snag a seat up against the fence. This seems like an ideal place to be for batting practice. How much would this cost on top of our regular ticket in the stadium? ground level is free, top level is $15 -
QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Mar 27, 2014 -> 08:55 AM) Was in Seattle in 2012 when The King pitched, they did something similar and it was cool. I'm sure the logistics of selling based on Sale's day of pitching can be dealt with (if you pre-bought you're in, any unsold prior to a certain period get the deal could work). I just know it wasn't a robust crowd when I went to the Mariners game but that section was packed. The sox social lounge is the pickup point for the signs/shirts. so they will have the 200 or so ready on game day.
-
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Mar 26, 2014 -> 11:19 PM) It sucks someone had to place all those hundreds of signs out there just for a few minutes, and then collect them all again. That's why Jerry has interns.

QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Mar 25, 2014 -> 03:33 PM) I'll shoot you a PM. I'm thinking if anything, I'll go this route. They definitely changed it then, I had I wanna say it was the 13 game package in '05 & '06 and I didn't get a shot at postseason tickets in '05. Ozzie plan holders had ALDS rights in 05. I know because I had one in addition to my 27 game plan. BUT, I had to twist my rep's arm to make sure i got the tix. They were real sloppy that year in regard to invoicing 13 gamers. 2006, Ozzie plan holders had EITHER ALDS or ALCS.(Sox were low on ALDS inventory, as 27 gamers get all 3 games, so they offered 13 gamers rights to ALCS which they had a larger pot to work with.) But the Ozzie plan did not have postseason rights from 2007-2011. The Pick 14 "offically" has a pre-sale for postseason tix, while the 7's official stance is no postseason tix. But basing off 2012, and the fact that the ST base is so low right now, I wouldn't be surprised if they offer a 7 gamer playoff options(but only ALDS). If you are looking at a plan, hit my rep Reynel up at [email protected]. If you do decide to get a plan, you may be able to get a free patio party out of it, as they offer new customers a patio party in april.
