  1. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Dec 15, 2014 -> 12:45 PM) I hope not. Where else will they build in 2029? The land currently is a parking lot.
  2. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Dec 15, 2014 -> 09:41 AM) I am not sure JR owns the team long enough to warrant looking into building a new stadium, unless he feels that it will give him a better price when he sells the team. The team could partner with the City of Chicago and the state of Illinois to get some economic development funds to offset a good share of the costs in securing and preparing the site, the team could then sell off parcels of land to commercial developers to surround the stadium area to help fund the stadium, or they could lease the area to add additional revenue flow for the forseeable future. It would be expensive, but a lot of times these initiatives are funded with a quite a bit of public money. the next sox stadium will be on the site of the last sox stadium.
  3. QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 14, 2014 -> 09:18 AM) that will be one architectural greats. i can imagine the fans coming just for the shear wonderment of experiencing it. and it'll cost BILLIONS to build. The reason why it hasn't been developed after the USPS left is because the cost to convert the site to ANY use is extremely expensive. The demolition costs alone are more than a top flight pitcher on the free agent market.
  4. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Dec 14, 2014 -> 10:11 AM) I've always maintained the deep down, when both teams are good, Chicago is a baseball town at heart. There's something about the intracity rivalry and the 'come out to play' dynamic when the weather improves. Especially now with the Bears being a dumpster fire. I agree. 2008 was exciting because both clubs were contenders. While the Sox attendance declined from 2007's levels, that was mostly from season ticket holders dropping off after a bad season. The 2008 walk-up was very strong.
  5. QUOTE (jamesdiego @ Dec 14, 2014 -> 12:32 PM) Haven't been to games in awhile. But will for sure this year, gotta love that the moves I don't want to buy a plan, schedule is too erratic. How do guys get decent deals on spur of the moment tix? Stubhub typically has deals, or you can google "white sox ticket codes".
  6. QUOTE (Baron @ Dec 14, 2014 -> 11:23 AM) I'll probably buy the pick 7. What seats do you guys normally get for those?I typically get the upper corners, as you get 7 games for $55(assuming you buy all Sundays to go with OD or the cubs game). The tix allow you in the lower deck( they say on the ticket LOWER LEVEL ACCESS), and if you flip the opener or the cubs game, you can probably go to 6 games for free then. Nice little bonus is that the 7 and 14 plan holders get access to the Grinder Bash season ticket holder party.
  7. QUOTE (venom4789 @ Dec 14, 2014 -> 10:59 AM) so pick 7 game plans go on sale tuesday for non season ticket holders, gonna have to pick one up, will probaly get rid of a crosstown ticket if i get one, to much douchbaggery goes on at those games. You can get Opening Day on the 7 game plan. You do NOT need to get a cubs/sox game.
  8. QUOTE (Whitey @ Dec 14, 2014 -> 10:33 AM) Last Sunday, I got the full season plan... Its going to take up all of my overtime money for the next 4 months to pay for them, but I don't mind. My kids are getting older, and looking back I wish I did was more things like going to the ballpark with them. So, the time is now for me. Works out perfect that the time is now for the Sox as well. Awesome! What kinda seats did you get? Who's your rep?
  9. White Sox Sundays are only $5 a ticket and $10 for parking. Probably the best deal to enjoy the ball club this coming year.
  10. QUOTE (103 mph screwball @ Dec 14, 2014 -> 05:07 AM) WOW! Nice morning surprise! Buy your tickets now! Maybe that will give them enough money to keep Hahn in the zone! Wish I lived closer, but I will need to make the drive to the ballpark a few extra times to reward an off season like this one. Thanks Mr. Reisdorf, Rick Hahn, and I am sure Kenny Williams. TWO great off seasons in a row IMO. That is a lot of money for Melky, but he sure makes the line up look better. Anybody know anything about Melky's clubhouse effect? Hopefully his "clubhouse effect" is not showing guys how to shove needles in thier asses.
  11. That property is worth at least 100 million dollars, if not more. It will become mixed use office and retail space, with condos likely thrown in.
  12. The 2011 extension wasn't a bad baseball move then. It just didn't work out. If the pirates wanted to send quality prospects in exchange for Danks and cash, I say do it.
  13. QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 21, 2014 -> 12:11 PM) i really hope you didn't take that the wrong way. i am not too good with the King's language. peace. sox in 2015 It's all good! - hawk
  14. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 21, 2014 -> 10:58 AM) No, they're not equal at all, and while I didn't check that link, I've read enough on Quintana's to know that there were other circumstances behind it. Still, I can't stand when people make blanket statements about people who use PEDs. Cabrera was as clean as we can possibly know last year and he had a good season. If he gets busted, then the Sox don't have to pay him for 100 games which will recoup something like 20% of the amount they have to pay him (assuming he gets a 3 year deal). Yeah, if he was using and he gets busted, then it's a big deal and it's a big problem, and the Sox are on the hook for 2 years, but these are risks you have to take sometimes. The Sox could just as easily sign Sandoval and find him using PEDs a year and a half into his contract, which is only a 50 game suspension, and then he could fall completely off the cliff. Hypotheticals and what ifs are a fun game to play. who says he hasnt found a new biogenesis?
  15. QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 21, 2014 -> 11:16 AM) i think that is what the whole thread is about. i'm not going to read 25 pages of mental masturbation to get to that point.
  16. While I think Alexei is a valuable asset to the sox(and not really that expensive), it would be foolish to not listen to offers. Especially if LAD offers mad cash in conjunction with a major leaguer.
  17. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 20, 2014 -> 05:50 AM) http://www.providencejournal.com/sports/re...-trend-last.ece “The TV deals are the single most important variable in how aggressive a team can be,” said Cubs president Theo Epstein, whose organization has positioned itself (not sure how the author thinks they've done anything but being forced to wait for the Comcast deal to run its course) to negotiate a new TV deal after 2019. “You can chart a team’s spending in certain offseasons based on the timing of their TV deal and how it big it was. It’s something fans are starting to become more aware of and track, but it’s really a driving force in the industry dynamic that goes unseen.” (A month ago, Epstein told season-ticket holders that the next TV contract will be “the magic bullet, the paradigm-shifter.”) so now "next year" is 2019 at best. i doubt theo is even employed by the cubs then.
  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 20, 2014 -> 05:21 AM) Miami currently has the worst local TV deal in all of baseball, paying them $13-18MM annually (the Dodgers’ deal, in contrast, pays them $334MM per year, Gaines writes). Gaines notes that having a legitimate superstar on the team will increase the value of the new TV deal. Gaines speculates that negotiations could begin in 2016 as there appears to be some kind of opt-out on the current contract, which runs through 2020. Indeed, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports tweets that they are aiming for a new TV deal to begin in 2017 — which, perhaps not coincidentally, aligns with the first significant spike in Stanton’s salary. www.mlbtraderumors.com http://www.businessinsider.com/giancarlo-s...ontract-2014-11 In a full column, Rosenthal points out that the Rangers, Tigers and Angels each spent significant money prior to signing their new TV deals so they had a more attractive product in place for negotiations. For example, the Mariners just upped their contract to $118 million per year, partially explaining the investment in Cano/King Felix and some of the other big/ger names they're being connected with so far this off-season like Nelson Cruz and Yoenis Cespedes (just changed to Jay Z's sports rep agency, obviously a Cano connection there). And the Mariners have rebounded all the way up to 7th in the tv households chart. http://www.foxsports.com/mlb/story/stanton...es-sense-111914 http://www.businessinsider.com/new-york-ya...ratings-2014-10 If you look at the attached chart, the White Sox were probably 25th (there are no ratings for the Dodgers and Blue Jays, and I assumed the Sox were also ahead of the Astros), with 39,000 households per game. Interestingly, the Cubs were only 2 spots ahead with 54,000. The Tigers were 2nd (159,000). Amazingly, the Indians were 10th at 99,000 per game in a "mediocre" season. The Royals and Twins were middle of the pack, which is quite resilient for the Twins' organization. Even though their fans are staying away (CLE and MIN), their local tv viewership is quite solid. If the White Sox went out and got Maeda, Papelbon (for Danks?) OR another RH closer, Ethier/Crawford/Kemp and pieces (for Danks/Ramirez) OR LaRoche/Rasmus/Morse...you would argue THAT potential team wasn't TOO far off. (It's also interesting in the Phil Rogers piece that he supposes Viciedo is going to be around in 2015). The sox with the current ownership won't play a shell game like that. They KNOW they will receive a huge increase in tv money in 2019. And they have plenty of payroll flexibility from now til then. If anything, the sox may try to get an extension of the current deal(which is an exact copy of the previous fox sports/cablevision deal that they opted out of in 2004). The sox(and the bulls) control half of the csn-chicago partnership, and the hawks are not likely to follow the cubs on a fool's crusade to another channel. i say that because the hawks share teh united center with the bulls, and rocky is not only on the bulls board, he considers jerry a mentor and friend. My prediction is that the csn-chicago coalition will be sox.hawks/bulls starting in 2019, and cubs trying to get a new staiton off the ground. being on csn has a major advantage. it is already on the vast majority go chicago cable/satellite homes. Part of jerry's conditions for the channel were that comcast not get greedy on carriage fees. carriage fees are the reason why houston and la have a new rsn and no one watching.
  19. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 17, 2014 -> 04:39 PM) With the Russell Martin signing, this could open up the Melky Cabrera sweepstakes quite a bit as Toronto might not have much money to play with. Cabrera just turned 30 who is a switch hitter, little above average defensively, doesn't strikeout but doesn't walk that much either. Definitely a contact type guy. What do you guys think? Yes or no and what would you give him years/money wise. f*** him. sox dont need a roider piece of s***.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 15, 2014 -> 08:30 AM) My question is...how well is this structure going to hold up? If there are going to need to be major repairs and renovations in 10-20 years, then that's going to fundamentally change the calculus about whether this stadium gets replaced. Anyone know how the bones of the ballpark are?structurally, it's in great shape. the ramps have a small shelf life, but teh main facility is just fine.
  21. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Sep 14, 2014 -> 08:16 PM) Disagreed. They got a cookie cutter stadium that was built and is pretty easy to renovate. They just built Bacardi at the Park(whatever they're calling it these days), and the neighborhood is improving(more so, the good areas are slowly expanding). The city also won't let them move, especially considering the Rock Island stop at 35th was built specifically for them. I would personally love them to move along the river just south of Roosevelt and Clark as you can have the skyline, lake and feature the Chicago River which no one has done. Another site I would look at is where they were going to build the Spire just off of the top of my head. park borrow more from dodger stadium and kaufman stadium than any multipurpose stadium. la and kc are in baseball only parks.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 15, 2014 -> 09:00 AM) In the City of Chicago, they were completely intermingled and run by Daley's cronies and loyalists.Patrick Ryan ran that bid. He's part of the bears ownership. Not exactly a crony. There were quite a few old money and powerbrokers on that bid. Yes, richie had a hand in some of the staff selections, but it was mostly out of his hands. (It has to pass the usoc and ioc sniff test).
  23. they should give him at leas tone more home start. at least move a few more k zone shirts.
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 13, 2014 -> 08:45 AM) Because the OC wasn't acting on the behalf of the City of Chicago? That is a ridiculous technicality. The olympic site committed, at least in the states, are a complex legal setup. It's not a technicality.
