MLB's "demise" is greatly premature to declare
ewokpelts replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
MLB as a whole is at its best ever financially. When the Padres sell for more than the Cubs, you know there's more money involved than ever before. NFL dominates the national discussion, but people still go to, and watch on tv, to baseball games. The sport has become a 9 billon industry, versus less than a billon before the strike. -
Ten bucks says the sox will open up the Bacardi bar for the opener. They did in 2012, the last year the sox opened on the road.

QUOTE (LDF @ Mar 20, 2015 -> 04:41 PM) why, it is their job to be creative, i am sure they are not this for free. if the quality is bad, get a nother agency or person. Translation: complaining is more fun than offering up constructive criticism.

Brooks is not the guy writing the ads. They have an ad agency for that. If you have a better idea to draw in casual fans, you should give the new manager of fan engagement a call.

I don't know why there is so much debate about this. He's a rental player. He has made no bones about exercising his union rights in regards to free agency. And Hahn knows this. Worst case scenario is the sox get draft pick compensation for him. There is no reason to get worked up over this.

Went to the ballpark to redeem vouchers. I got a frank bobblehead for buying at the box office. Other items to choose from were frank hof plaque, bonerko bobble, the green "flat cap", and larussa bobbles. Not sure if they'll do it today(Sunday), but go to the box office at the Chicago sports depot( inside).

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 27, 2015 -> 09:54 AM) I'd say out of the major sports, the NBA is one of the most exact. MLB and NHL are scary inaccurate. The nbc's minor league gets front page news and is covered nightly on sports center. It's hard to not know who can do what. Same as for the NFL. Their minor league is religion to some. MLB and NHL have systems that turning raw talent into polished players. That's whybits rate for teenagers to get drafted and start in the same year.

QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 25, 2015 -> 09:34 AM) Today is wed. 2/25. I'm waiting for our code to come out from the sox. edit: this is in response to ewokpelts yelp article referencing 2/25 as a Tuesday. Yeah, I screwed up. I was posting the info off an earlier thread. And I mixed my dates up. But the codes work

This makes a 7 or 14 game plan a must buy. Especially the upper corners.

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Feb 20, 2015 -> 02:34 PM) Not everybody has the time or money for a 7 game plan, myself included. For people like me it was a pretty good offer. They charged $35 for the same seats that were $25 in the 7 game plan.
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 20, 2015 -> 09:25 AM) I wish I'd seen this. I missed out on the OD tix to my brothers, going to try to get the 2/25 season ticket holder presale. You didn't miss much. The OD tix were priced higher than if you got a 7 game plan. The 7 game Plan had Od tix for $25. The 2 game plan? $35. Hell, a 7 game plan in the cheapies is as low as $55. The 2 game plan upstairs was $40.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Feb 18, 2015 -> 11:10 AM) My mom's family goes to one game a year. We won't know an exact number for another week or so yet, but most likely between 15-19. We usually use the discount code and get seats in Section 115 as close to the field as possible. Would love to be in closer to home plate or in the Club Level but some in the group won't pay more than $50 for their ticket. Might be better to talk to my guy. A 20 ticket order without fees may be less than 15 with fees, even with a code attached.
-
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Feb 18, 2015 -> 09:39 AM) I will continue to check this page http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/cws/ticket...cial_events.jsp for discount codes, but if you hear of one for Saturday 6/6 vs DET before it gets posted here, please let me know. What do u need for that night? I can ask my rep what he has

Latest Vegas odds for regular season wins
ewokpelts replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I put $5 on the sox to win the pennant as well as the WS. My wife's aunt and uncle goes enough that I'll have him make a few bets for me. He usually hits the lv hilton as that book has better odds, as well as the lines for the pennant( some just do WS win) -

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Feb 14, 2015 -> 06:06 PM) I really hope that this is Hawk's last year. He's literally losing his mind and if you look at some of the video of him during the ice bucket challenge it's obvious his body is frail and not up to the rigors of following the team for 162 games. It's in his own interests to scale back and I just hope he doesn't have to be forced out of the booth or turn into a situation like Harry Carry at the end. I think he needs to follow up on his plans to scale back some games. If anything just to watch his grandsons play ball. I can see hawk out there chewing the coaches ears off while having a big s*** eater grin on his face. That said, it's plain as day his relationship with stone is not working. Especially in a trying season. The few games wimpy is in te booth he is a different announcer. Of course, paciorek talks s*** half the time, making it an old lady reunion fest -

QUOTE (Tex @ Feb 14, 2015 -> 08:57 AM) You make that sound like an unusual thing lol Nice analysis and much fairer than what Hawk usually receives. They have an interviews only podcast. -
QUOTE (Brian26 @ Feb 14, 2015 -> 09:18 AM) Gotcha. Implying anything?
-
QUOTE (Brian26 @ Feb 13, 2015 -> 08:35 PM) What do you need a rep for? I ask honestly, not cynically. I've had season ticket packages for years, and I don't think I've ever had a reason to call them back once the tickets arrived in the mail. Once the tickets arrive for your games, what's the deal with "the rep"? For you, that may be all you need from a ticket rep. I have used my guys over the ears for groups, additional games, even asking for an extra SGA item.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 13, 2015 -> 09:30 AM) As I stated, the team was doomed. It was going to be bad. The next regime did a lot better job drafting players than ANY regime in White Sox history. And Hawk made some good trades. Calderon was a good player, and he also got the White Sox Tim Raines. Jose DeLeon, acquired for Bonilla, who Hawk selected in the rule 5 draft, was a good pitcher, and he also eventually netted Lance Johnson. Bonilla was better than DeLeon, but not as good as what the Sox might not have had if they had kept him. http://www.southsidesox.com/2013/1/11/3862...y-minor-leagues It's not like Bonilla was all that good away from barry bonds. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 13, 2015 -> 08:09 AM) You do know in 1986 he picked Bonilla in the rule 5 don't you? Trading him probably turned out well for the White Sox. A few more wins the next couple of seasons, they might not have had McDowell, Ventura, Thomas and Fernandez later on. And if Soxtalk were around in 1986, LaRussa would have been about as popular as Robin Ventura if he brought Cleto in to close a 1 run game with the bases loaded. I think Larry Himes did a pretty good job as Hawk's replacement. I doubt Dombrowski, if he would have been the replacement had Hawk kept him around, would have been able to match. Hawk wasn't a great GM. He will be the first to tell you that. But it wasn't nearly as bad as a lot of people made it out to be. The 1986 team was doomed. Burns was done. Seaver wanted out. James was done. Hawk got Bonilla, who eventually turned into Lance Johnson. He also got Calderon who was pretty good, and became Tim Raines. Hawk got the job because the minor league system was worse than it has been at any point the last 20 years. The year before they drafted the great catcher Kurt Brown in round one. The next pick.........Barry Bonds. They may have felt that bonds wouldn't sign. He turned down the Giants when he was drafted out of high school.
