Love the rampant subtle racism in this thread

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 28, 2015 -> 08:11 AM) I showed up 5 minutes before the game last year and got a Tony LaRussa bobblehead. They had so many left over, they gave some away this past Sunday for checking in with the MLB Ballpark app. But I do agree, free sells. I really don't know what I would do with a Jose Abreu blanket. Ebay seems nice. I did sell the gumball machine championship ring they gave away in 2006 on ebay for $300. I thought when they received it, they would be pissed, but the lady contacted me and told me she was so happy. When I was a kid, I went to a game with my dad on umbrella night. Sure enough, it did rain. They always make more of the items than given out.

QUOTE (LDF @ Apr 27, 2015 -> 04:00 PM) there is no way Danks is going no where, esp with his salary. if the Angels had to pick up what of Hamilton's salary, can you imagine how much the sox will have to eat. now if they add a secondary player to add to the mix to entice Stl, then who can it be. either way, Danks is the sox's property until his contract is up. Danks is owed much less and for one less year.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 27, 2015 -> 02:56 PM) It always amazes me how a cheap blanket draws people. Make up games usually are not well attended. Whatever blankets they have leftover in game 1 they will probably give away game 2. A blanket in July. I hope it's 98 degrees. There will be no blankets left. I'm willing to put money on it. Especially after the sox started letting people come in and out for multiple SGA items.
-
The 4/25 postponement will help in the long run. I expect at least 20k, if only for the blanket. And with the 2005 reunion that weekend, you at see more people hitting both games that day.

QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ Apr 27, 2015 -> 10:56 AM) Ugh, I had a ticket to last saturday's game as well. Now I won't be able to go to the makeup game because it's on a friday. Does anyone know if I can just go to the boxoffice and exchange the april 25 ticket for a ticket to any game between now and the makeup game? Do they always let you get bleacher seats for $10? Stubhub. The sox are not issuing refunds or exchanges. You can try calling them, but they are pretty firm in this.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 23, 2015 -> 02:18 PM) Listening to all of the complaints that Sox fans have had over there years, including my personal favorite that the seats were the wrong color, they would have complained anyway. Sox fans making excuses? Say it ain't so, joe

QUOTE (LDF @ Apr 23, 2015 -> 09:24 AM) you may be right, but then why get rid of those top 9 rows of seats. what was the reasoning. i was there one night when the park open up. my cuz and i shared our season tickets. so on the off night i went and brought upper deck. this person trip and fell roll down the stairs, i was looking backwards at the game and he took my feet from me. dislocated my shoulder. now for a point of ref. this was the night that someone had a gun and shot himself in the leg, behind home plate. the seating, as i said before, was a good idea in concept, but it didn't work in real life. now the rest of the park, its great.... I call bulls***. The has NEVER been an incident with a gun at the new park.

QUOTE (sammy esposito @ Apr 23, 2015 -> 09:22 AM) On the 20tgh and am sure other games so far this year the lower level was not filled and on that day the upper deck occupants could have easily fit into the lower level seats. So on that particular day just allow the upper deck occupants to move down to the lower level. Everyone happy. They do.

Samardzija said he's not looking for "top dollar'' in
ewokpelts replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 4, 2015 -> 11:57 AM) Plus the money they were planning to spend on him with a ton of top flight free agent pitchers most likely available. I know wins aren't everything, but for a 30 year old with 36 career wins, and really not a long history of being ace-like, $100 million is really sticking your neck out IMO, and that might not be enough. It is very possible the best solution for the White Sox is one and done. It works for Calipari and Coach K. agreed. he's a good pitcher, and would be a nice fit long term, but let's not get carried away here. -

I think with the emotions involved with playing at home, plus te fact that he does want to explore free agency, I doubt we see any move until the offseason. And let's be honest. If he leaves, the sox still have a stud waiting in the minors. Plus the compensation pick. Rick made the right move trading for him. This is not a "please stay" move. It's "don't regret leaving" move. -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 2, 2015 -> 02:27 PM) Yes but they probbly already had 10k tickets sold for these games, and probably a little more. This promotion isn't going to effect the amount of shirts required. I have been to april night games where the announced crowd is 14k and ther are less than 6k in the stands. Thats why they have the monday shirt promo. To Get people in the park.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 2, 2015 -> 02:16 AM) Isn't free t shirt Monday capped at 10k shirts? They probably pay about $1 each for those. A friend of mine used to sell bootleg concert t shirts. It used to cost him $0.80 each to produce, and he wasn't doing anywhere near 10k in volume. They still are paying for them. Not pepsi or miller, or any other sponsor.
-
QUOTE (kev211 @ Apr 1, 2015 -> 11:44 PM) I would be all over this if it was another two month portion of the season. Guess my 14 game plan will have to do. that's the point of this promotion. to get people to come when they don't normally want to.
-
QUOTE (Jason82807 @ Apr 1, 2015 -> 03:17 PM) They're actually doing this to SUPPRESS paid attendance figures, since tickets under $3 each don't count towards paid attendance and the rent they pay for the ballpark is based on paid attendance. But they still get a little bit of ticket revenue from seats that would've gone unsold anyway, plus added concession/merchandise sales, plus a fuller ballpark leads to more ad revenue and gives the image that Sox tickets are scarce and people should buy tickets for summer games now. Smart move on all points. Only question is how rainouts will be handled. If that was the case, they'd paper ( comp) the joint. The rent can't exceed 3 million. So "suppressing " attendance to save a million dollars is half ass backwards. Especially considering that this offer is good on free shirt mondays, a giveaway that has no sponsor. Meaning te sox are paying for the shirts. This is to draw in extra revenue and make the park look fuller on TV. Do you think they LIKE being #27 out of 30 teams in attendance? You think they like getting s*** offers for sponsorship? The sox have the BEST stadium deal in MLB. They can swallow the additional rent payment just on konerko night's beer sales.

White Sox with 6th highest odds to win World Series
ewokpelts replied to JUSTgottaBELIEVE's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Apr 1, 2015 -> 12:54 PM) By highest, I mean 6th best chance of winning the WS. What I find most interesting is that the White Sox have better odds to win the World Series than the Tigers but worse odds to win the division. Bettors are implicating the White Sox make the playoffs as a wild card and then become very dangerous in a short series with a potential starting 4 of Sale, Shark, Q, and Rodon. Makes a lot of sense actually. What book is taking Divison bets? I know not everyone takes al championship bets. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 1, 2015 -> 11:27 AM) Wouldn't high odds be bad? If you want to make money, then no. If you see the odds as a barometer for the season, then you want s smaller payout. The Phillies at 125/1 means you make $125 per dollar bet. BUT, those odds are there because no one really thinks the Phillies have a chance. The Cubs are the outlier, as people always bet on the Cubs, regardless of the previous season. "Next year is here" and Chicago locals making bets for people back home basically pay for the sportsbook's operations. The Cubs at 6/1 is because everyone is betting on them. In 2004, they had 3:1 odds during spring training. -

Should minor leaguers be paid more/unionize?
ewokpelts replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Yes and no. There are plenty of clubs that would go under if the pay rates were to rise. And that is after they recieve the development fees paid by MLB teams. But yes, the players would greatly benefit from better pay and conditions. -

He's hitting the market. As is his right under the labor deal -
I'll be parking outside gate 2. Right by the exit.

They should have put it in 109/110. Give those guys some love. That said, this is a great idea.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 25, 2015 -> 07:57 PM) That was me... and, yes, you're right, finding or placing the exact value of the Comcast deal is BEYOND tricky, because there are two entities that are separate (Bulls and Sox) with the same owner. So that's 40%, 20% to Cubs, 20% Blackhawks and 20% Comcast Company if I remember correctly.. The sox own 20% of CSN-Chicago. The Bulls stake is a separate ownership group. They do, however, have the right to buy the Cubs' stake.

MLB's "demise" is greatly premature to declare

QUOTE (greg775 @ Mar 21, 2015 -> 06:55 PM) It's amazing the money in the TV contracts. Are TV networks the only businesses that are thriving during the lean economic years/current recession? All you hear about are the huge network contracts. Sports scores are the ultimate spoilers. People just don't watch games that are on the dvr. Advertisers want people to watch their commercials. And live sports means there is a better chance to get viewer that can't or won't "touch that dial"
