QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Feb 13, 2015 -> 11:43 AM) Will you be able to get single game tickets by calling on the 27th, or only online? That only applies to ticket packages. Single game tix are ticketbastard only. Or the box office.

All Star host selection to mimic Super Bowl
ewokpelts replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The system that manfred is talking about basically exists already. What he may be talking about is that you see a more formal "host committee" form instead of ownership groups simply lobbying The commissioners office. That said, the Cubs WILL get one. Selig basically said so last year. The "delays" are simply tied to rennovation drama. -
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Feb 9, 2015 -> 02:07 PM) I was just thinking on my home from class today. Say the Sox are in contention and Longoria becomes available. What do you think it would take to get him without giving up Rodon? I think I would give up Davidson, Montas, Anderson and Danish for him. Would that be enough? Once again, I'm just thinking out loud here. The problem is that it's a team friendly contract. Tampa can "afford" him until they move into montreal( or any other market). I doubt they move him in July, or even in 2016, simply because they will likely need a superstar to help sell baseball in their new market.

Spring Training TV broadcast and Internet streaming schedule up

Don't the sox co own a TV station? Why can't they put up more games? -

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 9, 2015 -> 03:14 PM) That's a light schedule it seems, particularlybon the radio. are they free on tv online? Some games may end up on MLB network. Especially if it's the other teams broadcast. -
All Star host selection to mimic Super Bowl
ewokpelts replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It'll be like it is now. Just without making sure the leagues alternate. Pittsburgh got it 12 years after hosting one because of ownership lobbying the commissioner. As for the Cubs, they WILL get one after they complete the rennovations. And I suspect the sox will get one in 2033. -
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 5, 2015 -> 05:12 PM) Fixed that for you. Over his career, save one year, James Shields has been a very good starter. He is not a good investment because he is 33 years old and solely for that reason. He wasn't exactly a stud in this last postseason.
-
Shields is a poor investment based off his recent performance and age.

Why is this in the sox forum?

QUOTE (flavum @ Feb 4, 2015 -> 02:17 PM) If Micah can play, he'll be a fan favorite....kinda what Beckham was 6 years ago. He's well spoken and seems to have a decent head on his shoulders. And is local-ish(Indianapolis). Like you said, if he can succeed on the field, the Sox will have a solid asset.
-
It's not like this new guy is going in alone making crazy changes. The Sox' manager of fan engagement is a fourth generation baseball guy. And his family has been involved in Chicago baseball on both sides of town since before Wrigley field even had ivy.

QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 2, 2015 -> 03:51 PM) He didn't say All Star game, he said ALl Star weekend, and yes, the NBA does a much better job at making events EVENTS than the MLB. MLB has all star WEEK.

QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 2, 2015 -> 03:20 PM) Yes, sigh, I know. Stuck with probably the worst patriotic song written for eternity. God bless the usa is worse. And of course, Toby Keith's entire output
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 2, 2015 -> 03:13 PM) Would be great if they could get rid of God Bless America at 7th inning stretch and either put it before anthem, or replace it with one of the better songs like America, the beautiful (especially with it's loose Chicago ties). But alas, that's impossible. That's the fake patriotism brought upon after the Iraq invasion.

QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Feb 2, 2015 -> 02:53 PM) A basketball guy who's never been to a Sox game. Perfect. What could go wrong? There's probably a good number of minor league BASEBALL directors of promotion who would give their right lung for this job. Put me in the WTF camp. There's a young man working alongside him that knows plenty about baseball. His father and grandfather worked at the sox too.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 30, 2015 -> 11:32 PM) I don't believe they can afford to take that chance with a completely inexperienced manager again. That definitely wasn't one of his better interviews. He should have redirected and taken the opportunity to discuss Anderson, Montas and Adams, the three breakthrough players from last year. When the owner says "jim thome will be a manager one day", that's when you know he's ventura's replacement. That said, I wish bell took the job in 2011. I belive they would have made the postseason in 2012 with a veteran manager.
-
QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Jan 30, 2015 -> 10:37 PM) He's a good guy do deal with the media but I do not want him to have anything to do with making baseball decisions. I think that the Sox should promote Jeremey Haber, who is Hahn's right hand man and assistant to Ast. GM and Bell should be a special assistant like Thome. Bell was the guy that said no to Williams when he was offered the manager job in 2011. And thome is the guy that they will hire after ventura gets fired.

White Sox and ticket sales, an inside look
ewokpelts replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (raBBit @ Jan 29, 2015 -> 04:28 PM) Couldn't find any info on your top three posts there. I'm not doubting what you say but if you're going to speak so matter of factly on information that isn't readily available to the public it'd be nice to know where it's coming from.the 2014 prices are off the site. The exchange rate of the 6/30 game is based off the printed box office ticket. NO ticket jumps $40 from one game to the next. Especially a weekday series. The sth tix do have a lower printed price, and you would need to pay the box office price, but not that big of a jump. As for te other quoted posts, one is my pure speculation. If I were in the sox promotions department, I wouldn't have konerko day on a Saturday in May. I'd have it on a weekday, because they will get 50k white people no matter what for him. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 29, 2015 -> 10:38 AM) That is what you get when you have a powerful owner. But let's not pretend that following that system didn't cost the White Sox a lot of potentially great players that they passed on in order to say in those slots, in order to funnel more money to the major league roster. The philosophy of the system has clearly changed. Kenny was building teams that can win in the postseason. He didn't focus on GETTING in. I think rick's mo is get in AND win.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 29, 2015 -> 10:34 AM) The big difference is that Kenny Williams always did spend the extra to get that one more guy, and took it away from spending on the minor leagues. As a GM you have to make that choice. That's why they get the big bucks. Sure they could bring in the one more guy, but what if it costs you Steven Adams because you have to spend lower amounts on your draft picks. It could mean you don't have the $1.6 million to spend on an Adolfo, and instead stay in the $250 to $500k range of guys with lower ceilings. Those major league roster decisions do have a ripple affect through the rest of the organization. Do you want the depth signing now, or the lottery ticket for the future? Is it a coinkydink that the new draft system favors the white sox? I think not Sox have done slot pay before it was the rule.
-
I think they look great. Will they win a WS automatically? No. But they have as good of a chance as anyone to compete all years long.

White Sox and ticket sales, an inside look
ewokpelts replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The konerko jersey day as well as the 2005 reunions I think were scheduled specifically to give Rick a little extra money before the break. All four of those games should draw well( at least 30k), and the sox already have a boost from ticket sales which allowed them to sign cabrera. The sox really seem to use the money in/money out formula, and having five games that will be sure to sell iut( if you add opening day) puts money in Rick and kennys hands. Especially if they are in a spot to compete. -

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jan 26, 2015 -> 05:26 PM) Customer service still needs work. If I have rain-out tickets I shouldn't have to pay $40 more the next day to watch the makeup game in my same seats in a 50% filled stadium.that was impossible to do with the price system last year. especially the angels series.
