  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 02:28 PM) Worth noting that this costs the White Sox an additional $4 million-ish as well (price of a reliever, maybe ~price of a decent backup catcher next year, etc.) The 2015 budget has already been passed. That said, who replaces him in the rotation? The sox already have FOUR GOD DAMMED LEFTIES! And who can be the lone decent right hander? Mind you, I also think rodon should be back in the minors, and Danks released
  2. The sox in the burbs would draw as bad as the Rays. And that's assuming the sox were playing as well as the Rays.
  3. QUOTE (Brian26 @ Jul 21, 2015 -> 03:36 PM) It's asinine. In terms of location, nothing could be more centralized and better capable of public transportation use than the current location (except for the plan from the early 80s that talked about a stadium just north of NW train station (now Ogilive) which would have been amazing. That project was predicated by the Bears moving with the sox. And mc sucky already affirmed the Bears ties to the Cubs and refused to partner with the sox. Oh, and Jim Thompson and Harold Washington made a deal to keep the sox off the Dan Ryan.
  4. QUOTE (WBWSF @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 09:26 AM) I have thought that not moving the White Sox into the South Loop has to be the biggest mistake in the history of the franchise. I think JR made a blunder of historic proportion. The franchise would of been much better off in the South Loop than its present location. I can't wait until JR is no longer running the team. I think his overall legacy with the White Sox is not a good one. Where? The tract of land next to the tracks? Where there would be only ONE access point at Roosevelt? That's why that site hasn't been developed yet for any project let alone a baseball stadium that holds 45k
  5. This weekend had a crowd no less than 25k. But also not a sell out for any of the official reunion games(friday's day game wasnt part of the festivites)
  6. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 16, 2015 -> 01:24 PM) AJ & Aaron Rowand would be two primary candidates. AJ would be a great get but I presume he'd rather get a national gig (and would probably be able to get it). I don't know if Rowand could but big difference between travel schedules, etc, between ocassional gig and any form of national gig. No idea how Crede is on a mic, but he'd be another guy. What about a Geoff Blum or Scotty Pods. He would have the personality and could have some interest, I suppose. Blum is on tv in houston
  7. QUOTE (bjm676 @ Jul 16, 2015 -> 01:11 PM) If AJ retires, hire him. He did well on FOX during the postseason a few years ago. Hawk is so close to AJ, he considers him like a son. I can see a scenario where he agrees to cut back games whihle mentoring AJ in teh booth to take on a fulltime PBP or color role.
  8. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 16, 2015 -> 01:00 PM) According to that article, Sox earn reported $650K in tv rights. That would mean over 162 games, their TV deal pays $105.3M. That # seems high to me, but if it were factual and you added in the national TV money of $50M then before gate sales, you are at $155M. I think it is safe to presume that gate revenues could cover all of your operational costs and then some, so again, for anyone who thinks Sox don't have the money to raise payroll or that we are in some horrible position where we can't possibly add payroll in the off-season, I think you are crazy. That said, it looks crazier based upon the $105M in local TV money which seems to be on the high side. the comcast games are 650k. wgn is about half
  9. QUOTE (ChrisLikesBaseball @ Jul 16, 2015 -> 12:39 PM) What was the issue with Hawk and DJ together on TV and Stone on radio? I remember enjoying both combos. Stone filled in for Singleton in 2008. The sox let him out of his contract so he could go to espn.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 14, 2015 -> 04:15 PM) So much for making up lost revenue with a big TV contract...they have a contract from 2005 still. about 50 million. they are due for a new deal in 2019.
  11. I suspect he will sign with the white sox. And I would not be surprised if he signs before the season's over.
  12. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 03:31 PM) What does Theo Epstein have to do with the White Sox repeatedly missing the playoffs under Kenny? Everyone acts like Kenny is the gm still, and Rick is there to make fans think Kenny is not in charge. So yeah, I can compare the two situations. Jerry himself has said that Rick would not be here as a figurehead or puppet.
  13. Why is this an issue in 2015? Just google white sox TV stations or simply go to the sox site
  14. Www.spothero.com. Use code 540madison to maybe save $10
  15. Kenny is rick's boss. He sure an answer questions related to the makeup of the team. I love how everyone is so anti Kenny, but think nothing of theo epstien having Jed hoyer as GM in name only.
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 13, 2015 -> 06:20 PM) They've made MUCH more of a concerted effort in recent years to show appreciation for the fans, but it feels like "too little, too late." It's only when they were starting to get desperate, dropped dynamic pricing, realized they couldn't get shut out on Sundays and started dropping prices around the board, but by then the product on the field wasn't an easy sell no matter what the ticket price. The funny thing to me is that over all these years, I've always felt the only truly successful marketing (other than the giveaways) has been the weekend fireworks games. All of those other promotions, like Dog Day and Elvis Night, were just window dressing and copies of what numerous minor league teams had already invented and been doing successfully on a small-scale basis for years. It's also little things. They never had a toll-free number for tickets, since I was in middle school. Most MLB teams treated their fans with more respect than forcing them to pay money to call to buy tickets. Maybe they can't do Thirsty Thursdays and Two for Tuesdays (because of the fear of ruining the family atmosphere), but going back to some of the discount (Mon-Thur) day/night promotions (Pepsi) and dollar dogs/Buck Nights or even "bundling" really good food offers with the tickets (like the A's do) couldn't do anything but help. 1-866-SOX-GAME
  17. QUOTE (Tex @ Apr 30, 2015 -> 08:19 AM) Kind of like how McDonalds and Burger King would work together. Coke and Pepsi. The Nationals and Orioles are franchises of Major League Baseball. Big f***ing difference than two seperate companies.
  18. QUOTE (My_Sox_Summer @ Apr 30, 2015 -> 11:24 AM) They stopped that last year. You can't leave until after 1st pitch. I ate a bunch of $7 seats to get multiple bobbles. They will let you re-enter as long as you have more than one ticket. They closed the loophole for the team store and bar. I had 13 tickets for konerko card day last year. Walked in 13 times and got 13 cards
  19. QUOTE (ptatc @ Apr 29, 2015 -> 12:46 PM) Yes, but he lost a HUGE market share with the Nationals moving in 40 miles away. What would the White Sox fan base and revenue be without the Cubs in Town. It really hurt his franchise in the long term. I don't blame him for being angry with baseball and the Nationals. He was compensated greatly for allowing the Nationals to move. Not only from the sale of the team, but the 85 percent equity in masn Plus, the sox have been sharing Chicago with the Cubs for 115 years. Totally different scenario. AngeloS is too much of a scumbag to understand working together.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 29, 2015 -> 11:20 AM) Rivalry doesn't have to be ugly. At the higher levels, I don't recall ever seeing anything like Washington and Baltimore happening between the Sox and Cubs. Jerry had sox games on wgn. And the tribune used to sponsor half price mondays. And who do you think got the Cubs on Comcast? They are rivals but also partners. Something angelos never undestood
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 29, 2015 -> 11:15 AM) I don't recall the Sox haven't problems with the Cubs at any level of the organization higher than Ozzie Guillen. Is there a rivalry? Of course. But a true dislike? No.
  22. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Apr 29, 2015 -> 06:46 AM) I think you just violated HIPPA. A dr's opinion is not the same as the actual records being released. As someone who works with medical information in my job, I can tell you this is not a violation.
  23. QUOTE (LDF @ Apr 29, 2015 -> 10:52 AM) isn't that like the sox and the northsiders?????? The sox really don't have issues with the Cubs. At least economically. Don't forget, jerry almost bought the Cubs.
  24. Angelos is a cancer to baseball. The games not going to Washington were because he is in a blood feud with the Nationals. Even though he made a boatload of money off the sale of the nationals. Manfred is selig's hand picked successor. He is not weak at all. But he is also the head of a corporation that oversees 30 fran horses with different goals and attitudes. Selig was known to let teams work out issues between themselves and not drop the hammer all the time. Manfred is taking a similar approach. The best part of this issue is that Angelos is losing a ton of money from 6 lost home dates. He will not recoup the losses with the doubleheader or the Tampa "home games".
