QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Oct 1, 2015 -> 12:59 AM) Found this at another location and wanted to share it. This will be the 7th year in a row the White Sox have missed the postseason. Out of the 122 professional franchises in the 4 major North American sports, here are the only teams that now have longer postseason droughts than the White Sox: 1.) Buffalo Bills, 15 years 2.) Seattle Mariners, 14 years 3.) Oakland Raiders, 12 years 4.) Cleveland Browns, 12 years 5.) Miami Marlins, 12 years 6.) Minnesota Timberwolves, 11 years 7.) St. Louis Rams, 10 years 8.) Edmonton Oilers, 9 years 9.) Sacramento Kings, 9 years 10.) San Diego Padres, 9 years 11.) Houston Astros*, 9 years (still alive this year.) Solid company. And as yet another poster pointed out a lot of the teams on this list play in smaller markets than Chicago. The 3rd largest market in the U.S. This franchise is in as bad of a shape as the late 60's / mid 70's. Obviously that's not good. Mark the Cubs were on this list until 2 weeks ago. So what's your point?

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 30, 2015 -> 04:49 PM) That isn't a toy. Have fun playing with your toys. I'm sorry if you have trouble understanding some things. -
That sucks. I was rooting for him to stick around.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 30, 2015 -> 03:21 PM) I wonder how many kids won't get them because of "adults" hoarding toys. Not sure. But I bet those "adults" knew how to read an Internet post before asking for a survey link http://www.ebay.com/ulk/itm/221895703424 -
Sox giving away "Stretch" Sale Figures on Oct 3

I wonder how many people getting this item will be "kids". After all, it's for the first 10k fans. -
Johnny mccub is the answer. If you like beanie babies and the sox hiring a nazi sympathizer/ wife beater as a team ambassador.

QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Sep 28, 2015 -> 05:13 PM) That would all come in handy if the product on the field was worth coming out to watch and the fans were coming out in droves to do so. Unfortunately, that would hardly describe the experience the White Sox have offered their fans in recent years. As always with this argument, all roads lead back to the one and only solution - winning. Stop with the making-the-playoffs-once-a-decade routine, or the occasional seven-year hiatus from any playoff appearance at all that we are currently mired in, and give our long suffering fans what they richly deserve: sustained success. Novel concept, I know, but dare I say, it's worth a shot! He asked about the location. Please keep track of where the conversation is going.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 29, 2015 -> 12:00 AM) The Sox could be the darlings of the city if they built a downtown ballpark. Is there any property available? Isn't Grant Park big enough?? Anywhere else? Build a true palace with Cuban as the owner! Could you imagine the public uproar over a stadium in grant park? The west loop idea circa 85/86 was probably the best location outside 35th street. But that was a joint football/baseball stadium, which would be torn down by now.
-
QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Sep 28, 2015 -> 05:13 PM) The west loop? The most thriving neighborhood in the city? When's the last time you went down Madison at night? I work in the west loop. And at night. Trust me, no one is by Madison and damen at night unless the uc is open.
-
QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Sep 28, 2015 -> 05:05 PM) The problem isn't that the neighborhood is bad, it's that there's nothing to do. Times have changed. People want to do more than just go to a ball game. Bridgeport is just boring tbh. The united center is Ina sea of parking lots and has worse surroundings than million dollar homes in Bridgeport. And no tailgating.

QUOTE (LDF @ Sep 28, 2015 -> 04:52 PM) there is no right or no wrong. i don't understand why it is important to prove anyone wrong. now the whole point is, unless the sox build a team that a can compete and b. stop blaming the fans for not coming out, nothing may get done. it is as SS2k5 stated, the owners may not invest in the team unless the fans comes out..... or so the owners believe in that. in all this, what were the actual attendance numbers of the yrs you stated??? 2006: 2.96 million 2007: 2.68 million I don't recall 2013, but it outdrew 2014 and possibly 2015.

QUOTE (Jake @ Sep 28, 2015 -> 12:39 PM) I think one of the biggest big picture limitations the Sox have is the location of their ballpark. It doesn't make success impossible by any stretch, but I think it is a big part of the reason that the baseline for attendance is so low. Yes, having a 6 lane super highway, THREE mass trains lines with an exit no more than 2 blocks from the park, 7000 parking spaces as low as $10, and multiple points of street access really hurt a club.
-
QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Sep 28, 2015 -> 01:02 PM) The location does have something of an impact to be sure. The expressways seem to constantly have repairs being done to them. Can't remember much of a time period when every thing was always open for traveling on. It does force fans to make a choice at times. Then you had the closings of some el-stops and construction on them too. However there's nothing that can be done about moving the stadium not at this point anyway. Which means the other option to draw fans is to consistently win. That doesn't mean making the playoffs every single season (as some have alluded to) but you certainly have to make it more often than once every seven years (which is the 'success' rate for this ownership group, five times in almost 35 years) Mark the sox had two of their best attended years ever when the Dan Ryan was completely shut down. And 2007 they lost 90 games! The red line project had little impact in 2013 as the green line station served all riders from the red line. And the sox reduced parking fees as a buffer. Your argument is invalid.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 28, 2015 -> 06:57 AM) In ever other White Sox relevancy thread,I read the Sox can't be relevant unless they start making the playoffs every year, and am constantly told t is what fans are owed. They shouldn't be expected to support simply good teams, they need a consistent winner. How would McDonough accomplish that? He is a marketing guy. It's obvious. Give out stretch sale figures.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 16, 2015 -> 05:53 AM) Whatever. If you knew the survey wouldn't let you get free tickets to the stretch Sale game, you wouldn't have inquired. My point was made earlier. Trying to hog a toy promotion is pretty lame.I knew BEFORE I posted that the sale SGA wasnt on the free game list. You just love to ASSume that I want something more than a free ticket. That's what boggles my mind. You are making a value judgement over soemthing that most people don't even care about! I met a guy sunday that bought almost 20 tickets for the star wars event just for the bobblehead. and he left after I made a trade with him. Are you pissed he took bobbles out of some kid's hand? Even though the sox offer was up for months and was promoted almost every homestand on tv and radio? And that the 1200 ticket cap for the promotion wasn't sold out until august? There are guys selling stacks of bobbles and other sga items on this site. are you having a baby over it? Especially when they likely went through the gates more than once? Seriously. Get a life. I just wanted a free f***ing ticket.

Trying to hog a toy promotion is pretty lame. You disgust me. Maybe a I just wanted a free ticket jerk? And if I was some sale figures I'll get them at soxfest. Or at the garage sale. Or from my sox rep. Or I can buy cheap tix on stubhub and get them at the park while your b****ing about it.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 15, 2015 -> 09:08 PM) LMAO. You posted YOU wanted free Sox tickets in the opening post. And? What's your f***ing point? I Cnt get my free tix too?
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 15, 2015 -> 06:37 PM) I have no problem with an adult getting a figure. But he already posted he was buying $7 tickets so he could go through several times to pick up more than one. This is an attempt to get a few for free. I'm also the guy that posts discount and free ticket codes for sox games. Maybe I want to pump this and HELP some fans go to a game for free?

QUOTE (ChrisLikesBaseball @ Sep 15, 2015 -> 06:17 PM) Surveys were linked to e-mail addresses this time, every e-mail had a unique link. They were in 2013 and 2014, yet I posted those online and people got free tix on my link.
-
Anyone have the link for the new sox survey? I want free tix!
-
Can you post the survey link? I never got the email from the sox

QUOTE (DaveBrown85 @ Sep 10, 2015 -> 06:12 PM) No, it says you're from Pittsburgh. But in reality. Do you think the White Sox think this will make more people come? not really. and if it does, it'll be from guys buying $7 tix to walk in several times for more figures. like me. -
Ventura "absolutely" wants to manage White Sox next season
ewokpelts replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I wish Bell took the job when offered in 2011. I think the sox would have made the postseason that year, and not be as underachieving since then. Cooper needs to go. -

QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Sep 10, 2015 -> 11:10 AM) I don't know if Thome would be interested, I've never heard or read him say anything on the subject one way or another. I do know that Thome is very well respected and liked by JR, that he is an advisor to the team and that they are close. Tony LaRussa told me that he and JR and Thome have had dinner together and that Jim's passion for the franchise was clearly evident. Make of that what you will. He does fit the profile though. Remember before Kenny talked Ventura into taking the job he offered it to Konerko as a "player-manager." Paul turned him down saying it would be to much for one guy. Let's put it this way, I wouldn't be surprised to see Thome be offered the job at some point in the future. It would be so White Sox (i.e. we're smarter than everyone else with our hirings...) Mark Jerry has made comments about Thome and managing that seem to suggest he IS the next manager. And I wouldn't be surprised if Konerko manages within the next 10 years.
