QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 12, 2014 -> 04:26 PM) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Reese_Hospital The olympic organizing committe is NOT the city of chicago. Nonetheless, it's impractical for 81 games a year. No rail service. No superhighway access(lake shore drive is a war zone on bear games 6 hours before kick off), and too far to walk from the limited rail service that services solder field.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 12, 2014 -> 02:12 PM) Speaking of Google maps... The bottom highlight is the footprint of the current park and parking. The eastern one of the area south of McCormick place that includes the former Reese Hosptial site, and some of the McCormick parking, and the park in the south loop that has been referred to. The clark street site that everyone love is nonviable. The ONLY way to get to that parcel of land is off roosevelt. the railroad lines abut clark street. the traffic at that site would be a nuclear disaster. it's too far to walk from the trains, and the ryan traffic at roosevelt any time from 5am-9pm is a war zone.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 12, 2014 -> 11:14 AM) They have a whole s***load of land they got for the Olympics. The city bought NO land "or the olympics"

QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Sep 12, 2014 -> 10:54 AM) So a 2 part question and would love to get folks thoughts on this. Will US Cellular undergo a name change? If so, when? I know that you can no longer acquire US Cellular products in Chicagoland, which makes the naming rights silly. Believe it or not, US Cellular is the 9th oldest stadium in all of baseball. Hard to believe its been 23 years all ready. How long do you think this stadium lasts before they knock it down/rebuild. Yes you have Wrigley and Fenway from the early 1910's, but after that the next oldest is Dodgers Stadium from 1962. Does US Cellular last another 30 years... 10 years?? From what I was told, US Cellular currently has NO plans to drop the name from the park. I also was told there's a certain contractual issues that make it hard to do even if USC wanted out. As for the lifespan of the stadium, the sox are signed to a lease that expires in 2029. It was extended from the original 20 year lease that would have expired in 2011.

Samardzija wants back in Chicago after 2015 Season?
ewokpelts replied to rowand's rowdies's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (rowand's rowdies @ Sep 9, 2014 -> 02:16 PM) Jeff Samardzija will be a free agent after 2015 (final year arbitration eligible in 2015). This article talks about how he would like to potentially come back to Chicago to be close to home. http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/white-sox/...-eye-on-chicago Can anyone think of a much better more realistic option to add as a front line RH SP to our lefty trio of Sale-Quintana-Rodon after 1 more warm up season? Wishful yet realistic thinking. Sounds good to me. no. -
We should lose to Oakland today on purpose
ewokpelts replied to sin city sox fan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Sep 11, 2014 -> 10:24 AM) The A's are in a serious race for a wild card spot and it would be a shame for Adam Dunn to miss out on the postseason. He accommodated the trade for us when he didn't have to do so and its time for us to repay the favor. I know Sale is pitching so it may be a little tough, but load the lineup with scrubs and go to the bullpen early. Help make sure the donkey plays in October (and if we can eliminate Detroit in the process, its even better) no. -
Do the Sox have any plans to honor Adam Dunn next week?

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 31, 2014 -> 05:00 PM) The Sox gave me a couple of free tickets and a free patio party to the Sept. 9th game. It will be interesting to see if the foam stops falling out of the people's mouths who b****ed at him every single time he made an out. How'd u score that? -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 23, 2014 -> 08:45 AM) If anyone has watched major league baseball for the last two years and seen the knobslobbers of themselves that the Yankees have put on for Jeter and Rivera which are unprecedented in major league history, they shouldn't be able to make a post like that with an honest face. Jeter and Rivera each had a final season LOGO.

Why do people keep acting like this team was supposed to contend this year? And that the konerko signing is stopping said contention?! A 99 loss team that signs a declining veteran to bench duty. That's what this is. NOT a playoff contender blundering a bench spot. He is here to sell tshirts and bobbleheads. He'll, the sox have giveaways every game in September for him!

Hey, Here's some offers for this weekend's games! 8/15 - KCBP - FREE EARLY BP INCLUDED WITH TICKETS! 8/16 - BCN - FREE Frank Thomas Bobblehead! Post game fireworks! 8/17 - MASCOT - Tix as low as $5!

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Aug 11, 2014 -> 08:47 PM) I'm all for the Sox to move out of Chicago and IL if they have to. It's Cubs town until August, then it's all Bears and then Bulls. They could go some place where there is no MLB baseball and get a governor or mayor to buy a stadium, they would still make money playing crap baseball. Think about it. If you were an owner you might consider it.the sox will N.E.V.E.R. leave chicago. The media rights alone make moving to Charlotte or Portland a madman's fantasy.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 12, 2014 -> 11:17 AM) if you really want to do that in this thread...Paul Konerko has been the team captain and veteran presence on a team that has spent more than half a decade consistently underperforming projections and disappointing in its results. Guys who were supposed to benefit from his guidance, like our current 2b, have been utter disappointments.bonerko's legacy?

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 10, 2014 -> 12:41 AM) Just curious. Why are you not one of his biggest fans? I sometimes don't get fan mentality. What more could Paulie have done in his career? He had a stretch of SEVERAL amazing seasons and in one of them the Sox won it all. People have the right to like whoever they want. I just don't understand what Paulie has done for people to not be eternally happy about him. I guess he's so slow people think he's a stiff for some reason. 1. His comments and attitude over the years. 2. He was a ken Williams guy. And the reason that frank was ultimately pushed into a DH role. 3. Since he was a KW guy, he never lost his spot in the lineup in his atrocious 2003 season, despite the fact that frank was killing at 1b in inter league play that year. 4. He is beloved more for what he is/represents versus his actual accomplishments. The average sox fan is less critical of a bonerko than of a frank thomas. 5. He is the DP KING. He found amazing ways to hit into double plays. ALL THE TIME.

I'm not one of his biggest fans, but he means a lot to the team, it's fans, and the owner. Let him play. He was brought back to sell tickets and tshirts. This is essentially a gold watch and a pension for him. As for his future, I suspect he'll go home and enjoy his retirement for a year or two, and then come back as a st instructor. I doubt he wants to manage.

Is Ventura the worst manager in the history of MLB?
ewokpelts replied to sin city sox fan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Jul 27, 2014 -> 04:11 PM) Robin cost us another game today with his idiotic moves and its getting frustrating. As I noted in yesterday's game thread, I feel he's personally cost us at least 15 games this season. Instead of having the best record in baseball, we are struggling to reach .500. If he's not the worst, he has to be in the bottom 5 of all time. I really hope this organization realizes that in the final months of season and makes a change before opening day 2015. Oh shut the f*** up. This was a 99 loss team last year. Like they can just go to being an elite team in less than a year. Ventura won 85 games in 2012. Were you b****ing then? -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 26, 2014 -> 06:46 PM) I am not sure. I knew it was the other side. I would imagine like on the 3rd base side, the ramp would have been knocked down(I have read the shelf life on those ramps isn't very long) and it would be in there just like the bar on the other side. There was talk years ago about a "grand entrance" type of development by gate 6( the gate closes to the dan Ryan and train lines). I had an artists rendering of a potential renovation that had included rooftop style seating/party space replacing some of the ad boards, but I doubt it survived in my hard dive between pcs. Part of that design included what became the fundamentals deck. One other idea was to move the sox offices to a seperate building, likely where the player parking lot is, and the sox would guy the office space for additional seating and amenities, with an eye towards street level businesses and entrances. The new building was also rumored to have rooftop seating or a large suite.

White Sox expanding free T-shirt Mondays
ewokpelts replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jul 17, 2014 -> 09:42 PM) Half price Mondays were gone long before they introduced Sunday value days. It's not like they simply changed the days around. Sox had 1/2 price Mondays in 2012. Family Sunday pricing in 2013pd -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 16, 2014 -> 12:19 PM) I think circumstances led to his demise. If the Sox don't win the World Series, Ozzie, who isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer, isn't subjected to the constant butt kissing, and praise and talk about his genius. He doesn't get into the war of egos with KW. He isn't educated. He isn't very bright. IMO, he is the easiest type to get caught up into the hype. It's one reason I find it incredible DRose has never gotten a huge head. One thing if I were making decisions I could never get past, was his putting trying to embarrass KW over winning. (Not that I don't think KW didn't deserve to be knocked down a couple of pegs) But a lot of players liked him. Start out small, maybe a Soxfest appearance, spring training instructor. See how those go. If he returns to what he was when he left, pull the plug, but if he is willing to toe the line, he could be an asset. Rose may have only played one year in college, but his mother was a teacher.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 15, 2014 -> 06:33 PM) This is his last year under contract.2015 is the last of his four year deal. In order for him to attend anything sox related, he would need permission from the marlins.

"Reinsdorf uses Bulls revenue to fund the Sox!"
ewokpelts replied to lostfan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Two seperate teams with two seperate ownership groups. The sox fund themselves. And the bulls only pay the bulls bills. Or in other words, bill wirtz has six bulls rings, but zero sox rings. -
QUOTE (raBBit @ Jul 6, 2014 -> 07:06 PM) Sox going with #TargetSale. I believe the use of the hashtag counts as a vote but I'm not sure. Let's go to war boys. Last day of voting it counts.
