QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 12, 2014 -> 09:49 PM) Jesus Christ Groce. They have one good player. Maybe double him? The guy is playing WAY over his head. He's a 41% shooter on the year and even shoots 69.5% from the line (he's 11/11 today) -

These refs in the illinois vs Nebraska game are awful. For both teams. This shields guy is hitting everything he throws up. -

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 11, 2014 -> 08:06 AM) 1. No 2. Yes 3. no but our future isnt very bright as it stands Look at any Illinois message. They are all obsessed with Bruce Weber. I agree they shouldn't be which makes it funnier. Not sure why you think Weber would do better with a worse lineup than we currently have. His offense largely relies on having multiple guards that can dribble, pass, and shoot. He recruited nobody that could do that, unless maybe you think Orris would have done better at Illinois than he did at KS. You might think the future isn't bright, but this looks like a tournament team for the foreseeable future. That's at least a start. -

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 11, 2014 -> 07:23 AM) Weber wins KSUS first big 12 title in 30 years and now he's having a great year with a roster that looked like a complete catastrophe coming into the year. He's been an amazing hire for KSU so far and Illini fans sure are butt hurt over it especially with Illinois being awful. I think a lot of the success is due to getting back in bed with Soxtalks other favorite coach Chris Lowery. Do you think Weber would have done as well with illinois as Groce did last year? Do you think Weber would have done better at Illinois with the way the roster was constructed for this year? Do you think Weber's Illini would have had a brighter future than what it looks like now? Nobody is butthurt. I think most people dislike Bruce Weber because he took a team that was in the top 5 in the B1G most years and ran them into the ground. Not to mention he tried to blame other people for his failure. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 10, 2014 -> 08:12 AM) So if he's there in the 6th it would be silly for some team not to grab him unless he performs poorly at the combine. Yep. I really wouldn't mind the Bears taking a shot on him. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 10, 2014 -> 08:05 AM) The impression I got last night was that he was a moderately highly touted player who made some all-SEC teams at DE, was I wrong in that? The thing is...if this kid actually has some talent and a history of performance, and he drops even a little bit in the draft because of this, he becomes a solid "value" pick that could outperform his draft slot. He was a fantastic college player, but he is 6'2 255-260. He played with his hand in the ground in college and scouts aren't sure if he translates that great to the NFL. He was projected to go anywhere from the 3rd to the 5th round. -

QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Feb 9, 2014 -> 04:20 PM) This team is nearly dead last in the entire nation in assists per game, where is it ever going to come from? It's better when Hill or Tate are out there. Not much better, but better. -

QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Feb 9, 2014 -> 04:08 PM) Up and down half from the freshman, as you'd expect. There's just nothing to lose by riding with them. Don't get antsy and flip back to the lame duck upperclassman down the stretch, JG. That lineup at the end of the half was awful. Abrams, Rice, Nunn, Ekey, and Colbert? Where's the passing going to come from? -

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 5, 2014 -> 08:46 AM) I don't think Henry was ever given much of a chance. He was a Weber hold over that Groce wanted no part of. I just remember reading about him in high school and when he got to Illinois and he was always mentioned as the guy with the best offensive game. And then he never played. I mean it is what it is. When you play the transfer game, some of them work out, some of them dont. Ekey was a miss, Rice was a hit. Let's hope some of the guys like Crosby and Starks can actually play next year, otherwise it's going to be another .500 team. Henry seemed like the one guy that Groce wanted to keep from that team as PF was a clear weakness, even with Ekey coming in. It's also much more likely that Cosby and Starks (especially Cosby) do well rather than play like Ekey. They both came from high major programs and were able to contribute. Cosby was very solid in the Big East. -

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 5, 2014 -> 08:34 AM) Rice and Nunn are the only two worth anything these days. And Nunn would be here even if Weber was still around. Ekey has regressed to the point of being useless. He doesn't rebound and he shoots airballs now. Not sure if he's still hurt or what, but he's doing nothing to help them win. Tate is a low rated, undersized PG. He also gives you next to nothing except poor shot selection and maybe a good pass once a game. And those two are all on Groce, not the last regime. Henry is actually what this team needs. It's too bad he didn't stick around because with his shot he'd be a starter. The rest I agree would have sucked, but I'm not sure they would have been much worse. Why do you think this? Also, Henry shot much worse last than year than Ekey is this year and made more than 1 less three per game. Take away Rice and where is any scoring coming from? -

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 4, 2014 -> 10:08 PM) Whelp, rock bottom. Worst losing streak in 40 years. Might be the dumbest Illinois team ive ever watched. Now imagine the team without rice, ekey, Nunn, and Tate and replace them with Shaw, Henry, James, and Orris. The roster was left in shambles. This should be the last bad year. If its not, Groce will be gone fast. -

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 4, 2014 -> 07:13 AM) Im curious why they didnt release those texts right away so Incognito wasnt suspended. Seems strange to just not play and allow yourself to be suspended when you are sitting on evidence that will make it go away Well there were text messages talking about drug usage as well as stuff dealing with hookers. Those could have been reasons why they didnt want to leak this right away. -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Feb 1, 2014 -> 08:45 PM) Terrible by Groce to play Ekey over Hill and Nunn down the stretch and while Egwu played better than he has recently he is just such an awful basketball player. He has literally the worst hands I've ever seen by a D-1 basketball player. Illinois up 2 and run a good out of bounds play that a normal Big 10 center catches and gets a layup on and instead the ball goes right through his hands and Iowa gets a layup at the other end. Just a killer. Completely agreed. -
QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 1, 2014 -> 08:23 AM) Could also be a team killer. I respect Bird enough to give him the benefit of the doubt. If he's a problem, they'll probably just cut him or something.
-
Pacers are set to sign Bynum. That's a pretty tight locker room he's going to, so they might get something out of him. It also keeps him off the heat. Interesting.
-
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 31, 2014 -> 07:50 PM) Yet they have only punted once in both games combined, which is very weird without scoring that many points. They had to settle for a lot of FGs in the NE game. 4 of them. They're going to need to convert better in the red zone to win the Super Bowl. I could see them scoring more than 28, but I wouldn't bet on it. The team total, for example, is 23.5. It's juiced to all hell (-145), but that much juice doesn't equate to a 4.5 point difference.
-
QUOTE (Jake @ Jan 31, 2014 -> 07:27 PM) I just don't see Denver being held under 28 points and I don't see Seattle scoring that many. Why not? They haven't scored 28 or over in either of their playoff games.
-
QUOTE (Jake @ Jan 30, 2014 -> 05:33 PM) A less contentious and perhaps more easily measured question -- what caliber of scorer are we talking about w/ KD? Is he the best since Jordan (that would mean better than Kobe)? I would say yes.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 30, 2014 -> 09:29 AM) It is a tough call. Kevin Garnett has had a pretty big drop off, but a guy like Kobe really kept going until his last two catastrophic injuries. Yeah, like I said, I think lebron will stay near the top for a while, ala Kobe. Kobe hasn't been looked at as the best player in years though.
-
QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jan 30, 2014 -> 03:24 PM) LBJ will be better than Durant for the next five years. Durant will play second fiddle, games in December in the NBA are meaningless except to those with little brother complexes that think they have to prove something, like the Bulls . There's absolutely no reason to believe this. 5 years? Maybe 2. Maybe.
-
QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Jan 30, 2014 -> 07:54 AM) You just dissed Larry Bird and Magic Johnson... And the reason MJ seemed to have no equal was because he's the GOAT. As for LeBron, as good as he is, he still hasn't touched MJ level of greatness and the gap between him and Durant isn't really that wide IMO. I've said this before and I'll say it again, Durant will surpass LBJ as the best player in the NBA within the next couple of years. I'm not even sure how this can be argued. It's not even a slight to Lebron. I think I read somewhere that he's played like 40,000+ minutes already in his career. I do expect him to be a top player for a while though.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 29, 2014 -> 09:54 PM) I can't figure out if this means don't advance big ten teams in my tourney bracket or advance them a ton. This season is so weird. I feel like the way things were being called in the OOC games has really messed with the conference games because the refs have allowed a lot more contact it seems. I think the B1G will do well in the tourney.
