QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Dec 30, 2013 -> 01:21 PM) That's why I said you trust your defense to hold them to a FG or less knowing you are going to get the ball back. Worst case scenario you still have the opportunity to go for two to tie at the end. If you go for two and fail and the Bears score a TD, it's basically game over and you have no options. The way the game was going, I don't think anybody in their right mind would have thought the go would go to overtime at 28-28. So you're down 4 instead of potentially 3 or 5?

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Dec 30, 2013 -> 12:27 PM) This. I still don't know how it wasn't overturned. I'd appreciate an explanation from the league, but there's no way that will ever happen. Costanzo may have been on the goalline when he actually downed it. The initial part was fine, but it was Costanzo that caused the touchback I think.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 30, 2013 -> 11:45 AM) I agree, but I don't think anyone's disagreed. I just thought the Packers received the benefit of the refs yesterday, but it ultimately didn't affect the outcome of the game. The Packers deserved to win that 100% and it was a highly entertaining game. The delay of game call, or lack thereof, definitely could have affected the outcome of the game. The Bears likely get the ball back if the call is made. I'm not saying the Bears deserved to win or that the Packers would have even lost if they punted, but to say they didn't affect the outcome is something I can't agree with. That was a huge call. Not complaing, just saying.

SF -2.5 against GB on Sunday. Gift?

QUOTE (Jake @ Dec 30, 2013 -> 09:43 AM) Would you rather Lovie get hired in Detroit or Minnesota, in the hypothetical world where he has to get picked by one of them? As much as I'm sick of Lovie and glad he's gone, I really think he's a fine coach. It wouldn't surprise me to see him get a ring one day. I wouldn't mind Minnesota. Allen is a FA and the defense in general is pretty bad. The Lions are a different story. That defense might be tops in the NFL with Lovie.

Mitch Mcgary to have back surgery. He probably should have went pro last year... -
QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Dec 27, 2013 -> 11:32 AM) I would love to see this Packers offense next year with a healthy TE. I would guess they are gonna let Finley go and draft someone else. I pray that the Packers don't get Ebron.

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Dec 27, 2013 -> 11:28 AM) That's pretty surprising. I realize there wasn't much else on in the way of sports last night, but that was a nothing match-up and I had zero interest in it, where as I'd watch the BE final. Gambling probably helps the ratings a lot. There is much more gambling on football than basketball. -
QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 27, 2013 -> 10:26 AM) Great post. Because it really showed the NBA's superiority when a white guy from french lick Indiana who couldn't jump was a top 2 star in the game. Yes, but he didn't go to Harvard.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 26, 2013 -> 11:58 PM) Just realized that Jeremy Lin's been really good this year. Almost 15 PPG with a .636 TS%, which is better than Harden, Parsons, and Dwight. Today's NBA. A chinese guy from Harvard is doing well...

QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 26, 2013 -> 02:50 PM) Most places had no line on the game pending GB's decision. Yeah. There were a few places, like Bovada, that had the Bears -7. Stupid.
-
QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Dec 26, 2013 -> 02:16 PM) Is that the line pre or post the Rodgers announcement? Definitely post.

GB is -3. Looks like a gift even though the Bears are at home.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 25, 2013 -> 10:11 AM) Do you ever get sick of making anti-Cutler posts? His posts seem very level-headed. I don't know how anyone can really disagree with any of the points he's made and I'm usually a pretty staunch Cutler supporter. It's just getting to the point where he's getting harder and harder to defend. He's clearly the better choice now because he has the arm that can win the bears games. The defense is so bad that you have to take the volatility that Jay brings to the offense.
-
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Dec 24, 2013 -> 12:24 AM) So people think if the Bears lose against Green Bay, Cutler is done as a Bear? Am I reading this right? How can it be that black and white? He could throw for 300 with 4 TD's and the defense might still lose the game. It really seems like a no-win situation. If he performs as stated, then sure, fans can argue to keep him, but if he's doing that and the Bears are losing then aren't resources better spent on the defense anyways? Also, I don't know if I've ever seen Jay perform like that and the Bears lose, so I wouldn't expect it.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 23, 2013 -> 02:04 PM) The lack of turnover creation has just murdered a defense that specialized in giving up some yards, but getting the ball back. Agreed. I think a big part of the reason that the defense is having trouble creating turnovers is because the defense lost 3 pro bowlers though. Think about the roster turnover. Lovie had continuity on the defense for many years. He wouldn't have had that this year. Players like Roach, Idonije, and Urlacher were around for a while. That combined with the number of injuries is just a recipe for disaster.
-
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 23, 2013 -> 01:53 PM) It'd be interesting to see how the defense would have done if Lovie was still around. With the losses of Melton, Tillman, and Briggs I would guess petty bad. Maybe not this bad, but I think it's fair to say that it wouldn't be anywhere near last year. Peppers getting old hasn't helped either.

QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Dec 23, 2013 -> 10:39 AM) If he manages to lose to a Rodgersless Packers at home with a Division title at play, I don't think I want Cutler at all... If this happens I don't think there will be any faction of the fanbase that wants to keep Cutler around. He's hanging on by a thread as it is, but losing to your team's rival that is riddled with injuries would just be the end.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 23, 2013 -> 10:33 AM) Again, I am talking points scored. I am not pinning the loss on Cutler. Some were making a point McCown wasn't really as good as his numbers because they only scored 20 vs. Minnesota. It was obvious 5 minutes into the game they were going to have to score at least 40 to win. They would have needed almost 60, and if McCown started, I realize they still would have lost. I am just saying blaming McCown for the 20 should mean you should blame Cutler for the 11. Considering they scored 11 and he threw a pick 6, the defense could have been really good last night and a loss would have occurred. Like what was pointed out earlier, special teams with a bad punt and a fumble got the ball rolling the wrong way. The defense looks Illini-esque, and the offense wasn't good enough to win even if the other phases actually did their jobs. It's really difficult to look at things like that. The Bears gave the ball to Forte 9 times last night, his lowest total of the season. It allowed the Eagles to key on the pass and generate a lot of pressure. The two situations aren't the same. McCown had the advantage of mixing up both run and pass (Forte had 120 yards on 5.2 YPC that game) whereas Jay did not.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 23, 2013 -> 09:27 AM) It won't be his fault. If the Bears only score 20 against Minnesota, it proves McCown isn't as good as his numbers. If they only score 11 vs. Philadelphia, it shows Jay didn't get enough help. I think Jay could have played the game of his life and they probably wouldn't have won. Giving up 300 yards on the ground and 47 points on defense doesn't usually result in wins. Jay didn't play well, but I think it's fair to say he didn't get enough help. McCown had a 115 passer rating against the Vikings and only scored 20. Something doesn't add up there. His two TDs were a 46 yard TD by Jeffry (ridiculous catch) and an 80 yard TD by Jeffry. He can move the sticks pretty well because he's patient and doesn't mind checking down. He won't lose you many games with bad throws, but he won't win you many with his throws either. With how bad the Bears defense is they need a guy that can win you a game with his arm.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 21, 2013 -> 05:18 PM) I like that Illinois got the benefit of that seal by Egwu, but that should be an offensive foul. He's screening a guy while moving Egwu and offensive foul kind of have a thing. -
