QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 3, 2013 -> 06:05 PM) I love NBADraft's player comparisons for this draft, after they lowered expectations after DeShawn Stevenson = Jordan... 1. Wiggins = Pippen 2. Parker = Carmelo 3. Exum = Penny 4. Embiid = Olajuwon/Bynum 5. Randle = Larry Johnson/Mashburn 6. Smart = Harden Wiggins kind of reminds more of T-Mac. Obviously much better on defense, but his game doesn't seem all that similar to Pippen's to me. Wiggins has the upside to be much better than pippen.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 1, 2013 -> 03:29 PM) Lol, I absolutely agree with the decision. I just think its hilarious when OSU fans try to take the high road. Like the article you posted earlier this week. Winning conquers all. -

Meyer won't suspend Wilson or Hall. It's too bad they aren't playing buffalo or sdsu. Meyer could have shown how much of a disciplinarian he has become. -

QUOTE (zenryan @ Nov 30, 2013 -> 06:39 PM) I dont blame the kickers, I blame Saban for being too conservative on the two possessions inside Auburn territory when up 28-21. I guess Saban figured he could run it up the middle every play and win the game. Anyways, congrats to FSU for being national champs. Well if OSU loses to MSU there's still a chance FSU plays somebody that can beat them. Don't crown them yet, -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 27, 2013 -> 01:11 PM) Sure, you never know. There are sure blowouts on paper that never materialize every year. Okay, I guess crazy things happen like Stanford beating USC that one year. I guess anything is technically possible. Maybe I should rephrase it: Does anyone think NIU will be within a TD or maybe even within double digits for the spread? The game would *likely* be a blowout. -

Does anyone actually think NIU will keep it close against a team, outside of maybe UCF, in a BCS bowl? -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 26, 2013 -> 03:45 PM) He was named a person of interest and then not charged for anything. Still suspended 3 games. Lot's of these experts talking about teams the way they are now, not how they were when they were played. NW is a shell of who they were at the beginning of the season. Of course all of this would be moot if Wisconsin wasnt screwed against ASU. Not all suspensions are equal. OSU was playing nobody those first three games and Urban had to do something after Aaron Hernandez. Let's not act like Urban is some saint. There's no way of knowing if the Wisconsin kicker makes that kick anyways. Should he have gotten the chance? Sure, but they were still going life and death with ASU and a 32 yard FG isn't a freebie in college. -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 26, 2013 -> 02:25 PM) he HATES OSU and Meyer. It was a shocking article, but I see it as pretty truthful in a lot of aspects. Nobody has really given a s*** that a kid who is publicly accused of rape is still playing. Wasn't Hyde arrested? I don't think Winston has been arrested yet. I just think it's ridiculous how he tries to downplay Clemson for only beating a "7-4" UGA team. Just absurd. I guess they had no injuries that may have made them a worse team than they were in week 1. -

QUOTE (scs787 @ Nov 25, 2013 -> 08:32 AM) He surprising leads the team in tackles for the season, 5th most amongst safeties. Certainly not saying he's the 5th best safety in the league but he hasn't been THAT bad. I think you give him another year, but FS for sure has to be upgraded. If I'm the Bears, depending on whether they bring back Melton/Collins, I'm taking the best secondary player available in the first. If that's a CB then I'm moving Tillman to FS. Jake, or any other PFF subscriber, I'm curious what they have to say about Major? He has the worst score of any safety in football. He has been thrown at 23 times and has given up 19 receptions. QBs have a rating of 140.2 when they throw at him and average 19.7 yards per completion. He has the second most missed tackles at 13. He's terrible.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Nov 21, 2013 -> 02:58 PM) So for fun, would you trade Anthony Davis for the first pick in the 2014 draft? I wouldn't and it really isn't even that hard of a choice. Davis can be an absolute defensive anchor along with being well above average offensively. He has the potential to be KG on offense (maybe a bit better scoring, but worse passing), with KGs help defense, but with Camby's shotblocking ability. We've seen how valuable a dominant low post presence can be. Wings are easier to find than guys like Davis.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 20, 2013 -> 01:00 PM) Third is about right so I agree. Still 3 games left. FSU is getting Duke in their conference title game while we may actually get some help from MSU. I don't understand the love fest with Baylor. I don't think FSU playing Duke would help at all. OSU isn't jumping FSU unless they lose. If Baylor beats Ok st this weekend and goes undefeated then you might need that help from MSU to pass Baylor (assuming Bama or FSU lose). If Baylor wins this weekend, I would bet that they would be #3 come Sunday. -
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Nov 18, 2013 -> 08:44 PM) That just doesn't fly. You have to prove more physical defense=better defense. You just can't. Take the '89 Pistons for instance. As good as they were on D, they allowed 104.7 ppg per 100 possessions. Then you look at the '08 Celtics. They allowed 98.9 ppg per 100 possessions. That's a pretty big difference. And like you say over and over and over again, the game favors wings/guards and you just admitted offensive spacing, due to the evolution of the 3-pointer, is better. So the Celtics have way more obstacles to overcome. And it's still not close. And the 93 Knicks gave up 99.7 PPG per 100 possesions. They played at a faster pace than the celtics too. Look, the 80s was nuts. Tons of fast breaks and tons of scoring. Jordan played in a few different eras. He played in a really fast NBA (the 80s) and a really slow NBA (the late 90s). It would be my guess that overall d rating will drop with pace, although I haven't done research because I'm in class. Eh, maybe not.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Nov 18, 2013 -> 08:09 PM) You (not you, fans in general) can't have it both ways. "Jordan would score 40 ppg" or "Jordan would average 20 free throws a game" in today's era but I can't imagine what LeBron would do in the 80's. You're right. Like you said, EVERYTHING is more advanced now than it was during Jordan's era. I totally agree with the bolded part to this point. I agree that defensive schemes are more advanced than Jordan's era, but they need to be because they can't be as physical as they were in Jordan's era. Also, offensive spacing has gotten much, much better which obviously helps slashers. So, yes, everything is more advanced, but that doesn't mean it would make it any harder for Jordan to score in today's era. Sorry for being part of the derailment of the thread once again. I'll stop now.

Jaylon Tate is averaging 4.3 APG to 0.8 TO. That's extremely impressive, especially for a true freshman. I'm not sure how he'll do when the competition gets better, but I'm convinced that Tate is going to be an above average B1G guard by his junior season. It doesn't look like he'll ever be the scorer that Groce wants out of his 1, but he appears to have a very good feel for the game and is a very good passer. -
QUOTE (Jake @ Nov 18, 2013 -> 09:07 AM) I don't want to be that fan, btw, but at what point do you start thinking about keeping McCown next season and letting Cutler walk? I'm not about to argue that McCown is actually a better player, but we're rapidly approaching salary cap hell and Cutler is likely to be really f***ing expensive. If Trestman is going to turn any ol' asshole into a starting caliber QB, how much do you want to invest in Cutler? I have to think it has at least crossed the minds of Emery and Trestman that maybe, just maybe, it could make sense to keep McCown, draft a QB high, and invest in the defense. Either way, I'd really hesitate investing in Cutler long term. Franchise tag seems like the smartest way to keep him. Completely agree and I'm one of Cutler's bigger supporters usually. If you look at a guy like Rich Gannon's career it isn't too far off from how McCown's. He was a mediocre QB before Oakland where he then pulled off 4 straight pro bowl seasons from ages 34-37. The franchise tag would probably be what they would do if they decided to keep him, but isn't it the average of the top 5 salaries at your position? That would still be a ton of guaranteed money for one year.

QUOTE (Brian @ Nov 18, 2013 -> 08:35 AM) Not an Illini fan, but Ekey is fun to watch so far. He's been really athletic and active. Yeah, he definitely looks like an upgrade over Griffey. We'll have to wait and see how he fares in the B1G though. -
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Nov 16, 2013 -> 11:46 PM) I also shudder to think what LeBron could do from '87-'93 against inferior athletes, inferior defense and a league-wide pace that would make Nash's suns look slow. And they would both be wrong. We've had one 30 PPG scorer in the last 4 years and MJ's gonna get 40 ppg? Stop it. He'd league the league, sure. He wouldn't sniff 40. Defenses dwarf those of most of Jordan's era. Athletes are better, rotations are better, schemes (in large part thanks to thibs) are better. It's not even up for debate (though i'm sure you'll try). You still on that? LeBron even admitted that he's so obsessed with efficiency and getting the best possible shot for himself or a teammate that he overthinks the game at times and doesn't take what the defense gives him. Then came game 7. The end. Yes, Boris diaws athleticism is what gave lebron problems. He had a great game 7, but they should have lost in 6 in part to how he was playing. They were giving him cushions every game, but he didnt believe in his jumper until the 4th of game 6 and all of game 7.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Nov 17, 2013 -> 02:00 AM) If it were so easy to get to the line LeBron and Durant, the two best players today, would routinely be getting to the line 10-12 times per game, let alone 15. James harden averaged more FTA last year than Jordan did in every year but two. The nba has made it a wings era. Jordan, if he jumped into people after a pump fake which is now the thing to do, would easily average 12+ FTs a game. Even look at some of the wizards footage. He got a ton of people to jump at his pump fakes, but he didnt jump into them, he used it to create space and hit a jumpshot.
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Nov 17, 2013 -> 01:08 AM) He needed nearly 19 shots a game to get those 20 ppg. He got to the line only 4 times a game and was horses*** from 3. And that's while being a negative net on d. Michael the Wizard is a joke and I'll never forgive him for coming back ("I'll never play for another coach besides phil"). The wizards were better with him playing than not. That alone means he wasn't a joke.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 16, 2013 -> 09:31 PM) Jesse Palmer frantically preparing his "it doesn't count because they didn't play Stanford football" defense. Rock, do you think Ohio state would beat Alabama if Florida state loses? All hypothetical obviously. Just a question. -
QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Nov 16, 2013 -> 10:42 PM) I shudder to think what 87-93 Jordan would do in this perimeter friendly, breath on the offensive player and it's a foul league...also, weak era for big men and they can't camp their big asses in the paint. PJax and Larry Brown, who know basketball a little better than all of us here combined, have said that MJ could easily average 40 today. LeBron is good but he ain't MJ good. Case in point, do you think any team would leave MJ open and DARE him to shoot open Js in a Finals series? And that strategy would've worked had the Spurs been able to hit FTs or grab a f***ing rebound in the waning moments of Gm 6. Haha, you must be new to my posts in the nba forum. I completely agree with all of your points. Lebron is still making the league look like child's play, though.
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Nov 16, 2013 -> 09:58 PM) Have to be. You haven't given LeBron this much props since, well, never. Lebron is gross. I always respect him. He just tends to wilt in the finals
