  1. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 10:34 AM) ...what if Justin Morneau IS his son? There are no travel restrictions between Cuba and Canada, right?
  2. I just realized the swimming starts at 10 pm local time, that's crazy. What NBC wants, NBC gets
  3. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Aug 10, 2016 -> 07:25 AM) Funny.. I think me and fathom were the only 2 who were secretly hoping Sox would just let him go to the Yanks when they put in the waiver claim. I'll still give them the benefit of the doubt and see if they get something for him. Me three, I was all about letting the Yankees take him for free last year.
  4. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Aug 9, 2016 -> 07:24 PM) Personally, I don't see the point of him coming up this season. I would prefer if he went into the offseason conditioning as a starter and working as a starter in the minors to start the season. Unless they made a deal with him on draft day to call him up, I agree. Zero reason to call him up now.
  5. QUOTE (ptatc @ Aug 10, 2016 -> 08:24 AM) Even with a voluntary retirement? It's not a voluntary retirement though, doctors won't clear him to play. He's "medically disabled".
  6. Serena lost? Damn, not a good tourney for them. At least the swimming is live (sorry Gage). I'm impressed by quick the turnaround is on these races, it seems like less than 10 minutes between races
  7. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Aug 9, 2016 -> 04:36 PM) Not much of a reason to watch tonight thanks to everyone on Twitter. ThIs is where I remind everyone that NBC asked the IOC to change the order of countries from alphabetical order at the Opening Ceremonies, just to appease their broadcast. They are the enemy, not everyone on Twitter. It's 2016 man.
  8. QUOTE (shysocks @ Aug 9, 2016 -> 01:18 PM) Ken Rosenthal ‏@Ken_Rosenthal 2m2 minutes ago Sources: Prince Fielder’s career appears over. #Rangers expected to hold press conference tomorrow. As always, thank you, Rangers, for taking that moist turd of a contract off a division rival's hands in exchange for Ian Kinsler, who has been nothing less than fantastic since the trade. And by "thank you," I mean "f*** you." I was so pissed when that trade happened, knowing that the Rangers did Detroit a huge, huge favor. In the end, it didn't matter because the White Sox still suck, but what the hell Texas. Technically it's not a retirement, he is being declared physically disabled because the doctors won't clear him to play. He will still get paid his whole contract.
  9. These rugby sevens matches are ridiculously short, only 14 minutes?. I wish they were playing normal rugby.
  10. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 8, 2016 -> 11:33 AM) Screw that. I want to watch it in primetime and I don't blame them. They paid massive amounts of money for this and as such want to maximize ratings. I don't have an issue if some other channel or online you could stream live, but I don't think their primary platform (i.e., NBC over the air) should just air stuff live and say screw the tape delay. I think they can do both. Show the event live either streaming online or on a cable channel like Bravo, but then you can still include it as part of your main primetime broadcast. For the Olympics, the majority of viewers are like you. They would still watch it on tape delay, they watch it for the drama and excitement. It's completely different than a NFL or NBA game. Either way, I don't see how you can blame news outlets for reporting on the news live as it happens. Yahoo or ESPN stand nothing to gain by adjusting their broadcast to NBC's schedule.
  11. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 8, 2016 -> 11:14 AM) That performance last night was just insane. Hopefully she can have a few more of those type of performances (same with Phelp's...I hope he can end his career in style with a ton of new golds to add to his fort knox stash of existing golds). PS: Count me as one of those people who hates the fact that yahoo and other news sources don't spoiler what happened in the games. I'm on freaking tape delay so let me watch as if it were live darn it. I can stay off twitter, but harder when I turn to ESPN for a bit during a commercial and get whacked with a result. Pisses me off cause I freaking love my every 2 year olympic watching (and every 4 year summer olympic fix). The drama and quickness to this stuff, when this is what these people train for once every 4 years is great (can't watch this stuff other then when it is for the ultimate price with the ultimate stakes). I blame NBC, not the news sources. It's 2016, enough with this tape delay stuff. Show it live somewhere.
  12. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 7, 2016 -> 07:26 PM) HOF game cancelled unsafe field..............not a good start to NFL season Way to go Canton. Your job is to host one NFL football game a year, just one, and you can't even get that right.
  13. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Aug 8, 2016 -> 08:37 AM) Can't believe noone said anything about Ichiro reaching 3,000 hits especially in a tainted era. What a legend. One of my personal favorite players to watch. Future hall of famer (in 2 leagues at that!). Has more hits than Pete Rose if you combine his total hits from here and Japan. Well done Ichiro and it's been a blast to watch you. Entered the majors at age 27 and still got to 3,000 hits, very impressive.
  14. Brazil and Iraq are in a scoreless tie at halftime. In soccer. In Brazil.
  15. QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Aug 7, 2016 -> 06:07 PM) any chance we can keep his son here? For 5 more months the most powerful man in the world is a Sox fan, I would think he can help out somehow.
  16. QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 7, 2016 -> 07:53 PM) This Djokovich - Del Portro match is fantastic! Del Potro is the best to watch when healthy. They are both going for it right now This is like a final in a major. Djokovic got kind of screwed with such a tough first round matchup as the #1 seed.
  17. QUOTE (klaus kinski @ Aug 7, 2016 -> 10:33 AM) Ken Williams wheels are turning Home run #700 in a White Sox uniform? All publicity is good publicity, right? I do hope someone picks him up so he can hit #700. I hate the hypocritical love fest for Papi and Piazza, while Bonds and A Rod get pushed aside, they are all guilty of the same thing
  18. QUOTE (Tony @ Aug 6, 2016 -> 03:32 PM) GOP is going SO hard with the "Woe is me, everyone is against us, life isn't fair" plan of attack so early, we still have three months left. And Greg, who apparently only gets Fox News in Kansas, is one of many beating that drum. I've always been a Republican but those assholes laid their own bed. They still stand so strong on gay marriage and abortion, when most people are way past that. Their top candidates still stand for that platform which eliminates the high majority of voters.
  19. Anyone else think Bananas gave Sarah money on the side and just wants to milk the exposure for all he can?
  20. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 5, 2016 -> 01:28 PM) The Olympics are also mostly good (for me) for sports that I won't care about/see for another 206 weeks. Golf is everywhere, don't need it again at the Olympics. At least with hockey and basketball you get these ridiculous All-Star teams that are actually putting in effort. Handball FTW
  21. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 5, 2016 -> 12:18 PM) I disagree, in Sochi it was "Will it be ready in time?", not "ummm, there is literally raw sewage flowing down a hill past the complex people are living in, into the water that athletes will be competing in". And the Reporters are not the only ones complaining. Athletes have been posting tons of pictures of their accommodations, and they are simply terrible. The NBA players got their own yacht to stay in because they dont want to stay in the olympic village. The australians had to stay in hotels that they had to pay for themselves, and then when they moved in, the place caught fire and everyone realized the fire alarms WERENT EVEN CONNECTED. I really think this is gonna be ugly, I hope I am wrong To be fair, isn't that standard for the NBA players? At least, I remember the Dream Team doing that in Spain.
  22. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Aug 5, 2016 -> 11:23 AM) Why's that? It's good for the game. Non-golf countries are now investing money into it, so new markets are being opened. I think the format is dumb. And I think it's unfortunate that some of the big names won't be there. But that's what happened with tennis too and it's sorta turned a corner. A team format may have helped a little. The pros just hate taking such a long travel to a course they have never played and never will play again for very little, in their minds, incentive. I don't know if that would change much in Tokyo either.
  23. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 5, 2016 -> 10:10 AM) The IOC hasn't exactly been adept at picking locations. Their bank accounts strongly disagree
  24. The Olympics haven't officially started until the media starts complaining about accommodations and travel on Twitter. Just wait until one of them catches Zika. Opening ceremonies start on Friday.
  25. QUOTE (bighurt574 @ Aug 2, 2016 -> 01:44 PM) He'll be put on waivers, but if you put in a claim, they may just give him to you at this point. I wonder if the Sox were trying to work a deal for some small piece in exchange for LA eating some of his salary. That's my best guess. I would scoop him off waivers in a second. Maybe he's in the same boat as Abreu and has been figured out, but at age 26, I'll easily take a chance at 2 year, $17.5 million. That's not much in today's game.
