Jon Heyman: Sox have little interest in moving Sale or Quintana
LittleHurt05 replied to Kyyle23's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 1, 2016 -> 10:58 AM) f***ing up a rebuild and punting on a decade is an absolutely stupid way to respond to "a clear lack of direction". Two more years and that will be a decade without a playoff appearance. Sounds like they are already punting a decade. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 1, 2016 -> 10:21 AM) This is the exact same stuff that was said about John Danks. Just because things aren't great, doesn't mean they can't be worse. Given the apathy currently present in the Sox fanbase, would "worse" even matter? The attendance sucks, nobody is watching, what's the difference between slightly under .500 and very under .500 every year? I'm not saying you have to trade them, but when you say "at least you still have Sale & Q", that just accepts this barely mediocre path JR has the franchise rolling on now. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 1, 2016 -> 10:08 AM) All great reasons they shouldn't be actively shopping Sale and/or Q. If teams want to come to you, and blow you away, hey great, you listen and make it work. If not, you still have Q and Sale. And what good has that done the Sox? -
QUOTE (Tex @ Sep 1, 2016 -> 08:43 AM) A white person claims America is horrible and we need to make it great again, wins his party's nomination for President. A black athlete claims America is horrible and gets slammed. Black people are told to stop the violent protests and protest peacefully. Black man sits silently during anthem, Oops that's wrong. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Aug 31, 2016 -> 09:19 PM) Went to my first Cubs game in probably 15 years if not more(it's been so long I wasn't aware they had no stadium parking until we got there), have to say the atmosphere at the game was so much cooler than anything I've experienced at a sox game. I know they are a great team this season which helps but it was also just a regular season game against an opponent they had crushed all season long. Yup, that's something I came to realize over the past 10-15 years. Despite all the stereotypes of Wrigley, the baseball experience is so much better at Wrigley than at the Cell. Fans just pay more attention to the game and are more into the big moments. And it's not just because they are good now, I've seen it during the down years too.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 31, 2016 -> 12:07 PM) I bet the Giants put a claim on him and the Dodgers were like, well, there goes trading Puig. I doubt he got that far. I bet the Padres claimed him given their rebuilding status and lack of talent.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 31, 2016 -> 05:54 AM) My point is Puig is mostly hype at this point. He has not been getting it done on the field. Maybe he turns it around, but why would anyone think the White Sox would get more out of him than the Dodgers.? Offensively he is now Avi who is most likely a non tender this winter.. Why be on the hook for $18 million more? The Sox need offense. It is easy to see why people would be excited about acquiring him, but the reality is the Dodgers have him in AAA for a reason, and if his career trend continues the Eox front office would be considered fools once again for bringing him in. There is obviously a chance at a hitting a home run here, but there is also a hig bust possibility IMO. Yasiel Puig 2013 fWAR: 4.1 2014 fWAR: 5.4 2015 fWAR: 1.5 2016 fWAR: 0.5 Avisail Garcia 2013 fWAR: -0.5 2014 fWAR: -0.4 2015 fWAR: -1.1 2016 fWAR: -0.2 Come on, just mentioning them in the same sentence is wrong. Sure, he has struggled this year, but he has had 10x the success in the majors than Avi has. And even if he is a big bust, who cares? The Sox have little to lose at this point.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 30, 2016 -> 03:10 PM) A Venezuelan winter league team has offered Tebow a contract. I'm actually curious to see how he does. Odds are against him and I realize he's probably doing this for publicity (as is the winter league team), but he clearly is a talented athlete. I still find it odd that he is going this route vs. just trying to become a TE / RB, which would have seemed to be a more natural move. I always find it interesting when top notch athletes try other sports. Learning how to hit a 90+ mph pitch has to be one of the hardest things to learn on the fly, no matter how good of an athlete you are.

Our record vs. the three central teams above us

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 30, 2016 -> 02:46 PM) It seems like it was also something that happened during Guillen's time here as well IIRC. It started in 2009. Every year before then they were above .500 in the division (even in 2007). -
QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Aug 30, 2016 -> 02:23 PM) Yikes. It's weird, but when it comes to a knee, you never want to hear non-contact. After a year hiatus, the Packers have clinched yet another NFC North title, congrats.
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 30, 2016 -> 12:33 PM) Do the Royals have a better chance of winning the division than netting the wild card? I think so. The wild card is tough to make up one game a week. 2.8% chance to win the division. 10.5% chance to net the wild card. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/odds/

CEO of Guaranteed Rate seems like a good guy

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 30, 2016 -> 08:11 AM) Where did I ever say they were crooked? Those were someone else's words. You throw them in the same sentence with EpiPen, Tiger Woods, and Weiner. You claim they need to go on a humanitarian mission to restore their image. Here are a couple of your quotes from the other thread: Wonder how many predatory lending cases/lawsuits they've been involved in...ala Countrywide? Great, the Uber of loan companies. Will fit right in with Sox plans, schemes and off-season themes... -
Everybody is using the anthem as another way to NOT talk about police violence and racial tension.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Aug 29, 2016 -> 04:32 PM) I'm surprised so many people love Eastbound and Down, I enjoyed the first season but the schtick got old for me. I was actually kidding. It was funny, but it's nowhere near the top of the list. Unless you ask Kenny Powers. As far as comedies go, the last few seasons of Veep have been top notch.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 29, 2016 -> 07:52 PM) In the end, the only thing that matters is perception. And last week didn't go well in that area. The CEO of Guaranteed Rate could spend the next year doing a volunteer trip (not to Thailand with LaRoche) with Missionaries of Charity in Kolkata, India, and it still wouldn't fix that. At any rate, In the Driver's Seat deserves more of a raise (by whoever it paying him) than Brooks Boyer. I swear, when I was home for summer vacation, the ONLY person who knew the White Sox were on in the Quad-Cities on WQAD-3 was probably me thanks to his updates (it would be one of those situations like the Astros had with technically zero viewers). I also didn't see a single bit of White Sox gear in any local shop (except for LIDS, which has EVERY team) except for one rung of Jose Abreu practice batting jerseys for sale. Unless there was a Chance the Rapper shop I wasn't aware of... Nobody in Chicago has ever said anything about Guaranteed Rate being crooked. They think it's a small time company sponsoring a major market baseball team's stadium. They think it's logo is funny because it matches the direction the White Sox are headed. Yet nobody thinks they are crooked. You are the only person who has ever mentioned it, and you keep mentioning it. -
QUOTE (aryzner @ Aug 29, 2016 -> 11:05 PM) The Cubs have done the exact opposite of what the White Sox are doing: eating their division alive, whereas the Sox are being eaten alive. Sure they are pretty even with the Cardinals but the Pirates, Reds and Milwaukee don't even put up a fight against them. That's how you win a division and get into the playoffs. Struggling against the division has been a recurring theme for the White Sox, but 2003 is always the first thing that comes to my mind. The Tigers went 43-119, yet the Sox only managed an 11-8 record against them. The Twins went 15-4 and won the divison by 4 games.
