  1. QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 4, 2016 -> 02:04 PM) Alexei Ramirez released. Nice 9-yr career. Good chunk of change. By Fangraphs he was the worst position player in baseball this year. He seemed to fall off so quickly but had some great times here. Never forget the rookie year grand slam binge, especially the big one vs Detroit in extra game 162
  2. QUOTE (Tony @ Sep 4, 2016 -> 09:35 PM) 3 year deal. Nice, although I have to be a little hesitant if Green Bay is willing to cut him, they seem to be so on point with their talent evaluation. Could this signing have any connection to the Gould release? Not sure how the Bears salary cap looks
  3. Is Jose Abreu Spanish for Albert Belle?
  4. QUOTE (Tony @ Sep 4, 2016 -> 08:16 PM) Adios, Robbie. Wow. He would have been gone last season if not for his long career.. I think that's the last piece from the Super Bowl and Lovie era Bears. At least I got Lovie in Champaign. And Urlacher on every other billboard on I-90 with his new hair. Who will be the new kicker? I can't imagine John Fox going for two all the time
  5. QUOTE (zenryan @ Sep 3, 2016 -> 04:15 PM) It's pretty crazy how bad the SEC is at the QB position. It always blows my mind. They recruit amazingly at every position, but quarterback. Yet somehow they win almost every national championship.
  6. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 3, 2016 -> 01:00 PM) The White Sox pretty much killed the Royals' spirit this week. KC finally blew some games after being hot so long and the Sox rolled over against Detroit, losing all 3 and burying the Royals. And Wade Davis returned latest night and immediately blew a save to Detroit. Ultimate nut punch.
  7. Vikings trade a 2017 first rounder for Sam Bradford. Awful overpay
  8. Can't link the tweets now, but the Brewers are the team that claimed Puig. There were discussions of a trade for Ryan Braun but they never materialized.
  9. Not gonna have a repeat of Antigua 4 years ago, which is good. It would be nice if Trinidad takes care of business tonight, so that Tuesday in JAX is 100% meaningless.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 2, 2016 -> 02:40 PM) Cubs pitching continues to be unreal, as Giants are 0 for last 35 against them. Lester no-no thru 5 Keep the streak going now, so regression to the mean will happen in October!
  11. Throwing a 1st birthday party for our son tomorrow. We wanted to rent a bounce house for the kids, but the price to buy one is barely more than the rental cost, so we bought a new one. If we use it twice it's worth the money, that will be interesting. Got invited to BBQs the other two days
  12. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Sep 2, 2016 -> 11:18 AM) Everyone else is down for taco trucks on every corner, right? In
  13. I looked at Royal's career stats, he averaged 13-14 games played per season, which I found surprising. He seems way more injury prone than that.
  14. QUOTE (raBBit @ Sep 1, 2016 -> 10:10 PM) Americans like war criminals more than racists. It's pretty incredible that the GOP was given a candidate worse than Clinton. I'm not that old, but this seems like a historical election solely based on how horrible the bipartisan candidates are. And the guy who finished 2nd in the GOP race is probably the worst of all three. It's amazing.
  15. You know you are in a tough World Cup qualifying group when you have to play a day game because your opponent doesn't have lights at their national stadium.
  16. This what Brad Biggs wrote today about Braverman:
  17. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 1, 2016 -> 05:40 PM) I think fans everywhere pay less attention to a game or to a concert or any event than ever before, people now have to take 1000 pictures or video missing out, IMO, on a lot of the experience. But Wrigley's reputation was well earned. I was at a Cubs/Sox game there a few years ago. We were in the second row of the infield upper deck box. There was a guy standing in the front row just talking to his buddies, paying no attention. One of my friends had his view block. He is a Cubs fan and a little short on patience. He said hey buddy what is the score. The guy said how should I know? Also any pop up sounds like a home run because a lot of the lower deck seats you can't see the ball in the air. I live closer to Wrigley, but unless someone invites me, I have zero desire to attend. When they get all the renovations done, I will probably go. It might cost the price of my 27 game package for 1 game. Every stadium has their idiots and Wrigley has earned that reputation, but I just don't think the Cell is some baseball mecca with fan support as compared to Wrigley. For all the idiots at Wrigley, there's a lot of people that know what's going on in the game. I can't forget 2012, I went to a Cubs game when they were losing 100 games, and fans were standing and cheering with 2 outs or two strikes. Then I went to a Sox/Tigers game in September when the Sox were hanging on to first place, half the crowd didn't even realize there was a baseball game. It was almost embarrassing. The only ones who cared were wearing Tigers gear. If you get the good seats at Wrigley, it's awesome, but there are a lot of s***ty seats where you can barely see. And as people have said, the amenities aren't worth discussing.
  18. QUOTE (Deadpool @ Sep 1, 2016 -> 08:25 PM) I really hate that the military pays the NFL all this money to make this happen. The NFL wouldn't even play the anthem if the military didn't pay them. The whole thing is a farce and nationalism at its finest. Sitting down during the national anthem is more patriotic than standing during it. DoD paid $53 million of taxpayers' money to pro sports for military tributes, report says Last year Deadspin found that like a third of the NFL teams made profits off the NFL's "salute to service" week or month. I was glad to see the Bears were not one of those teams, especially since it's Soldier Field. The teams that did make a profit quickly gave back the money once it was revealed.
  19. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Sep 1, 2016 -> 07:37 PM) Someone may want to wake up Rocky Top Rocky Top was out drinking with the App St. kicker last night. Or maybe he is just a #collegekicker
  20. QUOTE (Deadpool @ Sep 1, 2016 -> 08:22 PM) What about it? I'm not being confrontational, I just haven't followed Illinois football since the Tim Beckman scandal. Came back when they fired Cubit. Someone could correct me if I'm wrong but I think the majority of talent they have right now are seniors. So next year they will be gone and you can't expect Lovie's first recruiting class to kill it in the B1G right away so there may be some growing pains. It's entirely possible that Lovie doesn't adjust to the college game or sucks at recruiting, but damn is it so nice to see an actual football coach on the sidelines.
  21. White Sox get no new money from naming rights deal with Guaranteed Rate
  22. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Aug 31, 2016 -> 01:47 AM) He's really no where near the Cy Young award, but he is doing really well for some reason. Him and Arrieta are running super low BABIPs. In fact, both Lester and Lackey and even Hammel have real low BABIPs too. I wonder if that's a lot of luck on their side, a product of facing weak NL offenses, or just having a really good defense. Or a combination. All 5 Cubs starters are in the top 11 in lowest BABIPs in baseball. 5 of 11! Arrieta (2), Hendricks (6), Hammel, Lackey, Lester (9, 10, 11). Here's why the Cubs are on pace to be the single best defensive team ever
  23. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 1, 2016 -> 12:02 PM) It took the Cubs 5 years of averaging 90+ losses to rebuild. The Astros took 6. The Twins are in year 5 of 6 at 90+, they did win 83 last year. Those, I would guess, "are done properly". The decades of droughts like KC and Pittsburgh, not so good. I can see why JR doesn't want to do it. If he isn't going to do it, he has to up the payroll and not depend on J-Roll. The White Sox are in year 8 of their plan and still no playoffs so who has been doing it properly? And the KC/Pittsburgh droughts came in different eras with different rules, so those aren't simple comparisons.
  24. QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 1, 2016 -> 10:40 AM) Opening weekend starts today! WE GOT LOVIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
