  1. QUOTE (shysocks @ Jul 19, 2016 -> 12:53 PM) You thought I'd trade Q for Joey Gallo? Gallo with a G? Joey Gallo's dead. I'd trade Q for Joey Callo. C-A-L-L-O. ...all right sorry everyone. Carry on. Never apologize for a My Cousin Vinny reference. Never.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 19, 2016 -> 12:31 PM) And again Republicans...congrats. This is your party. This is the type of people you want us to be. This is just ridiculous, get over yourself man.
  3. QUOTE (Tony @ Jul 19, 2016 -> 09:25 AM) That actually would be terrible, as if he retires with the Vegas team before his contract is up, the Hawks have to foot the bill and it still impacts the cap. LTIR is the only way they get out of the Hoss money, which is exactly what I think is going to happen after this season, especially if he continues to play like the 3rd liner. (I understand his age, I'm not saying it's all on Hossa). I have no problem with him playing like a 3rd liner. As long as Q actually plays him on the 3rd line. That will leave a hole next to #19, but I think Hossa can still be a solid contributor with his solid D.
  4. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 19, 2016 -> 08:54 AM) I never really read the details of expansion. I'm sure you guys already chatted about this, but The Blackhawks will be quite exposed next year. source: http://deadspin.com/the-las-vegas-nhl-team..._source=taboola I can't guarantee the accuracy of this, but according to Second City, the worst the Hawks would lose would be Kruger, if not then just a TVR/Hartman/Pokke/Svedberg type player. You can only lose one player. It could be worse. http://www.secondcityhockey.com/2016/6/16/...ction-las-vegas
  5. I doubt the extra money would have made this team better, but I still really wanted them to let the Yankees eat his contract when they claimed him off waivers last year. It just seems like an unnecassary expense for a team that's not competing. I know that every closer blows saves, but it seems like the good ones avoid the extra demoralizing ones that send the team down a spiral. There have multiple losses like that this year.
  6. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 18, 2016 -> 11:37 AM) MLB Network guys were predicting a blockbuster deal sending Sale to Houston. What package would they have to give up for Sale? Was this a prediction because there is nothing else to talk about on a Monday morning? Or a prediction based on solid information they have from sources?
  7. Bernstein: Jose Abreu’s Struggles Weigh On White Sox Bernstein with an article today thinking the same thing. I know that Bernstein sucks and Abreu deserves a free pass or whatever, but the numbers don't lie. He's just a guy now, nothing special anymore.
  8. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 18, 2016 -> 08:16 AM) Because pitching wins in the playoffs. Sure, but you have to make the playoffs first. I don't know if it helps to make your MLB roster worse in the process.
  9. QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Jul 17, 2016 -> 05:29 PM) Our offense is anemic at this time and Seattle has scored 3 runs or less in 8 of their last 10 games. Might have less than 10 runs scored total in this 3 game series. Time to make some money. If I have learned anything about gambling on baseball, it's a mortal lock that this series will be high scoring. It's just a funny game like that.
  10. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 17, 2016 -> 08:07 PM) Because Sale and Quintana are two of the most valuable controllable arms in all of baseball and left handed for that matter. Their value is insane. Maybe I'm overrating them but the package would be insane for Chris Sale. I get your point but those 3 guys you mentioned are younger, have better contracts and have out performed Q and Sale this year. There is no chance those guys are traded right now. And if you are trading Sale or Q, you don't need MLB ready guys anyway. Their contracts are so team friendly the next few years, you are basically punting until 2019 at the least if you do trade them.
  11. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 17, 2016 -> 07:39 PM) I think for Sale and Quintana they could bring back two MLB ready impact young players (Jackie Bradley Jr., Betts, Joc Pederson, Corey Seager some names as examples) then six near ready studs (Moncada, Benintendi, Devers, etc. from Boston. Just to name a few) and then a few very young prospects that are a few years away. That's just a ball park of what they'd need to get back. Truth is Hahn and the fro nt office got the Avi trade wrong but did get a couple lower prospects that were used as trade bait (Montas, Wendelken). Do I trust them to sell and rebuild again? I don't think so. I think the sox need to clean house in the front office and bring in some fresh blood. Then completely rebuild the team. If they kept Hahn however, I wouldn't hate it if Q was moved at the deadline for a deal Hahn couldn't refuse. (let's say for arguments sake they moved Q to Boston for Bradley Jr., Moncada, Devers and Benintendi or Swihart) I think I could live with that deal. Gets a young proven all star OF, plus a 2B who is on a fast track to stardom in Moncada, then ya get two more top young prospect hitters. The Sale trade would be the one you take an off-season to work on. That one you HAVE to nail. Then you could turn around and unload the others (Frazier, Melky, etc.) I would keep Anderson, Rodon, Fulmer and Eaton as my new core. 2016 fWAR: Corey Seager 4.0 Mookie Betts 3.7 Jackie Bradley 3.4 Jose Quintana 2.9 Chris Sale 2.6 Why in the world would playoff contenders trade those hitters for Quintana or Sale? It could actually make their team worse.
  12. QUOTE (StrykerSox @ Jul 17, 2016 -> 05:36 PM) That's not the point. He has played poorly this year (solo homeruns aside). He could have used the ASB to rest, think about his issues and work on a way to not suck so much. Instead, he chose to spend it cavorting with actual stars and playing in a silly exhibition. As much as Frazier's word often come off as selfless, this action comes off as selfish. As for Stanton's BA, Deadpool nailed it. Dude doesn't play for us. Judging from your post, I assume you are a sports psychologist? You are fully aware of Frazier's current mental state and you are certain that spending four days at home with his family thinking about baseball would have guaranteed success in the 2nd half. As opposed to playing more baseball with the best players in the league. I wish you would have passed that info onto the White Sox front office a few weeks ago.
  13. QUOTE (He Gawn @ Jul 15, 2016 -> 09:59 PM) 10:05 AM where I am I hope you are drinking too
  14. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jul 15, 2016 -> 06:05 PM) Couldn't the Sox still trade for him? A Burns, Anderson, and Eaton trio would create havoc on the bases. We can call up Jason Bourgeois and trade for Billy Hamilton. We would win the 4x100 relay in Rio. Gold medals for everyone! At some point you have to hit the ball out of the infield, that's why all these speedsteers can't stay on a MLB roster.
  15. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 15, 2016 -> 07:17 PM) I do. I like it. Ozzie drank half as much as you and won a WS.
  16. QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Jul 15, 2016 -> 06:18 PM) Morneau is 3-11 w/ an RBI lifetime against Hector vs Avi who is 0-5. Ventura simply sat him because he's left-handed, which is just irritating to me. Garcia career OPS vs. LHP: .733 Morneau career OPS vs. LHP: .708 I gotta pull a Dick Allen here. Everybody tears into Robin for ignoring splits, now he cares about them and gets ripped.
  17. QUOTE (Lillian @ Jul 15, 2016 -> 12:49 PM) Your wise crack aside, you stumbled onto an interesting point. Shuck actually has a history of hitting left handers better than right handers, so using him because he's left handed, doesn't make sense. Moreover, I haven't been advocating a left handed hitter per say, but rather a "middle of the order" Left handed hitter. Hopefully, Morneau will fill that role. For those of you who think that I obsess about the need for a middle of the order, left handed bat, I'll remind you that Hahn has openly acknowledged that very need. I like Bourgeois because he could hit lead off. He has pretty good on base percentage skills, doesn't strike out much and can steal a base. I am not thrilled with Anderson leading off, because of his inability to take walks. If Bourgeois led off and could produce around a .350 OBP, then Eaton could stay in the #2 hole, and Anderson could hit somewhere further down in the lineup, although I'm not sure where. He has a career .300 OBP in the majors. Why would that suddenly increase by 50 points at age 34? When he played 93 games in a season at age 29, it was .323.
  18. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 15, 2016 -> 01:08 PM) So the truck driver was French. Every terrorist in the recent attacks in Paris & Brussels carried an EU passport. This truck driver was a Tunisian-born French citizen. He was Muslim but didn't even attend mosque and zero ties to being radicalized.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 13, 2016 -> 02:12 PM) Sports on Earth ‏@SportsonEarth 2h2 hours ago The upheld Brady suspension inches us closer toward closure in this Deflategate debacle. http://oak.ctx.ly/r/4uthr Brady officially drops all appeals and will serve the 4 game suspension. 20. QUOTE (Lillian @ Jul 15, 2016 -> 07:25 AM) I'm ready to give the journeyman Minor Leaguer, Jason Burgeois a shot. I know that he's 34, but he's always been a capable hitter, and is having a career year. .253/.300/.326 in 761 major league plate appearances. Where do you see a capable hitter?
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 14, 2016 -> 06:50 PM) Realistically he got off to a horrible start, and has trended back to his usual self over the last couple of months. Historically his worst two months with the White Sox are April and May. The last thing we need is another irrational panic about Abreu thread. Here is his OPS by month this year: April .657 May .711 June .885 July .807 OPS+ by month April 82 May 94 June 131 July 114 Batting average by month April .229 May .252 June .306 July .351 2014: .964 OPS - 173 OPS+ - .317 BA 2015: .850 OPS - 135 OPS+ - .290 BA So he has yet to have a single month within .079 OPS of his entire 2014 and has had one month .005 OPS higher than his entire 2015. His best month so far in OPS+ was 25% lower than his entire 2014 and slightly lower than his entire 2015. His July BA has been great, but that's only 9 games and came with no power. I think your post justified a lot of the reason for panic. He's still a good player but he needs to be much more than that for the Sox to contend.
