  1. QUOTE (High Mileage @ Oct 28, 2015 -> 07:43 PM) As opposed to a rich guy that literally invites thousands of people out to spend their own money? Interesting. Who are you calling out for that? A-Rod?
  2. Is this the most hair between starting pitchers in World Series history?
  3. Rich guy buys bar tab = really good guy. Interesting.
  4. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Oct 28, 2015 -> 03:46 PM) Where did the dislike of Hosmer and Moustakas come from? They are long lost twin brothers of Nick Swisher
  5. QUOTE (almagest @ Oct 28, 2015 -> 12:38 PM) Or Eric Hosmer Neither is every other non-Royals fan in the entire world.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 28, 2015 -> 12:23 PM) His having played here for a decade + is a recruiting tool, absolutely. But it doesn't affect whether his signing would help the team to execute plans or not. But this isn't bringing back a no kneed Harold Baines. Mark Buehrle can still get major league hitters out, which is all that matters. Given his struggles to end the season and injury flare ups I'm a bit worried about depending on him. I know he's been Mr. Consistency, but that's not gonna last forever. I'd hate to find out the hard way just to make JR and the fans happy.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 28, 2015 -> 11:56 AM) It isn't nostalgia if he can still pitch. If his name wasn't Mark Buehrle it wouldn't even be discussed.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 28, 2015 -> 09:37 AM) If it is a one year type of deal, and it allows the team to deal Quintana and get an equitable amount of talent for a place like 3B and/or C, it makes the team SO much better. I'd like to see what they get in return for Q, but it just seems like another nostalgic stopgap type of move
  9. Knowing this organization, it's almost a lock they do sign Buehrle, which I'd find extremely disappointing.
  10. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 27, 2015 -> 12:57 PM) How did you go about your addition? Did you talk to an architect first, get some plans, and then go to the bank to see what you could afford? What's that process like? I literally have no idea how to start. We didn't have much equity in the house, so we did a 203k loan. Basically your mortgage and the construction costs are built into one loan, they appraise what your house will be worth after the work is done and use that as a base. The biggest difference is that the bank holds construction money until work is done and approved. It's harder to find contractors that will work that way, but it's good protection. We met a 203k consultant to get that ball rolling, but it also helps to meet with an architect or contractor first, they can usually point out any limitations in your current home.
  11. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 27, 2015 -> 10:33 PM) Soxtalk was a bizarre family back in the day. Too bad I didn't find Sox talk earlier. I was bizarre in my early 20s as well
  12. I love the Mets section that's like a European soccer road crowd.
  13. I was sure the Cubs would turn him into a useful major leaguer. They didn't, the Sox might not either, but might as well give your coaches a chance with him.
  14. Since we had to put all new hardi board siding on our addition, we figured it made sense to spend the money and replace all the siding on the old house as well and change the color to one we like. Of course, once they removed the old siding, they discovered a whole other layer of wood siding that needed to be replaced as well. The fun never ends, good thing the bank required a contingency fund, it's already almost used up as it is.
  15. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Oct 27, 2015 -> 11:15 AM) Was that called penalty? I did not see the game but saw the highlight. That has always been something I never understood. That is an easy way to bail yourself out. Jon Quick does that a lot. It's not a penalty if it's ruled "accidental" according to the official rule. I imagine it would be hard for an official to judge it purposeful during a full speed play, and that can't be reviewed.
  16. Raul Mondesi Jr replaces Terence Gore on the Royals roster. Mondesi has never played above Double A
  17. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Oct 27, 2015 -> 09:16 AM) At one time baseball players had jobs in the off season. And tickets cost a nickel and a pack of bubble gum
  18. 180 regulation minutes without Duncan Keith. Only two goals allowed, but only three goals scored.
  19. Torii Hunter retired today. Half of Twitter praising the ballplayer, the other half criticizing the bigot.
  20. Watched the first few innings at McGee's (what can I say, I was 23). It was so packed and awful and hard to see the TV, so at a innings break we ran over to John Barleycorn in Lincoln Park (again, I was 23) and watched the rest there. I had met my future wife a few days prior. She lived a few blocks from Wrigley, so headed back to her place I of course had to stop at Cubby Bear for a drink, just to celebrate on Cubs turf. Ha, what a young twenty-something asshole.
  21. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 26, 2015 -> 12:52 PM) https://twitter.com/CollegeGameDay/status/658684909972791296 I didn't realize they have GameDay for basketball before the season even starts
  22. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 26, 2015 -> 09:50 AM) Wisconsin was favored over Ohio State That's because Vegas forgot that Urban Meyer was the QB whisperer. By "upset", I meant the team with playoff aspirations losing. Wisconsin, Arizona, GA Tech, and Missouri all had two losses going into the conference championship games already. Had a few of them won, it would have been interesting to see how it played out vs. the two 1-loss Big 12 teams.
  23. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 26, 2015 -> 09:42 AM) At some point in the near future there will be one or two 1 loss teams and a host of 2 loss teams including conference champions and its going to get super messy Last year all the favorites won the conference championship games. One year a few upsets will happen and that will really make interesting too.
  24. QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 25, 2015 -> 11:12 AM) Yeah, you've got that right. My electrician, despite having the specs for all of our appliances, heard my cabinetmaker refer to our ovens as "double ovens" and only put in one power source. Well, if he would have read through all the specs more closely, he would have realized there ARE two ovens, but they are separate ovens with TWO power sources, not a double oven with one power source. I caught this after the drywall went in, but luckily before the floors or cabinets went in, and so yesterday I was literally crawling through the crawlspace underneath my house (which is not really a crawlspace in the true definition of the word), to bring cable from the power supply to the panel, because my electrician couldn't fit. Had I missed this, we wouldn't have found out until the appliances were to be installed, at which point it would have been much more difficult. Our cabinet maker had all the specs for our appliances as well. Yet the space for the double oven was about ten inches too short. Nobody checked until the appliances were being installed, so had to cut up the cabinets at the last second. And the countertop guy had the cooktop in front of him when making measurements. The cooktop had sharp corners. So of course the countertop had rounded corners in the opening, so the quartz to be cut after installation as well. Fun stuff!
