  1. Good things happen when you have bigger guys bothering the goaltender in front of the net. Sometimes it seems like the Hawks forget about that and try to get too fancy.
  2. I - L - L !!! Normally I can't watch a meaningless tournament, but I joined a NIT pool and picked the Illini to win a Braggin Rights final, so keep it up boys!
  3. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Mar 19, 2014 -> 05:29 PM) It's an old joke but I hear the pilot's names were Wi Tu Lo, Sum Tin Wong and Ho Lee Fuk. The pilots were Malaysian. D-
  4. I wonder if they still prefer Phegley over Nieto, but would rather have him play everyday at AAA while Flowers gets his last chance in the majors. Maybe they don't think much of Nieto, but feel he's a solid backup. If Flowers falters and gets hurt, maybe Phegley gets called up to start while Nieto remains #2?
  5. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 19, 2014 -> 01:35 PM) Heck of a college coach with no ncaa violation baggage. Would be a heck of a hire when Beckham is fired I have no doubt that he would turn the program around quickly. I just would really struggle to root for him.
  6. I count this as the 38th time that Beckham feels better and we should expect him to start hitting well again. Hopefully it ends differently than the first 37 times.
  7. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 19, 2014 -> 10:50 AM) An interesting name came up for the next head coach for Illinois, Greg Schiano Ugh. While the upgrade at coaching intelligence would be nice, he just seems like an awful person and you don't get more meathead than him.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 17, 2014 -> 02:56 PM) John Hickey ‏@JHickey3 22m The A's are facing possibility that Jarrod Parker, A.J. Griffin & Scott Kazmir all will miss the start of the season. Parker out for year. But I thought signing Scott Kazmir was the greatest deal in the history of free agency? No one could have ever expected him to have an injury.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 18, 2014 -> 12:32 PM) Theory from a pilots point of view. http://www.wired.com/autopia/2014/03/mh370-electrical-fire/ The autopilot flying solo with incapacitated passengers happened to Payne Stewart and a commercial aircraft in Greece. My only issue is that the way the flight plan was diverted via computer, it doesn't sound like it happened in the middle of an emergency.
  10. QUOTE (G&T @ Mar 18, 2014 -> 07:02 PM) In case anyone didn't know, there is a reddit thread on this article. What I don't get is what happened to the passengers? If smoke is filling the cabin, don't people pull out phones and make calls or texts? I doubt this entire sequence could happen so fast that everyone was dead before they could attempt a call. Well if they had really flown up to 42,000 feet as reported, I doubt they had any cell service, especially if they were over water. Then if the cabin were depressurized, they would have been unconscious.
  11. I bet Melton wishes he had signed that long term deal last off season.
  12. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 18, 2014 -> 09:20 PM) Flyers fans understand their team is dirty right? Flyers fans understand they are dirty right? Good thing playoff overtime isn't 4 on 4, jeez.
  13. Final Four picks: Bears safeties, Jumping in Chicago River after phone, Lena Dunham, and Dan Bernstein.
  14. Raanta to start tonight in Philly, Crawford tomorrow vs. the Blues.
  15. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 18, 2014 -> 12:13 PM) As Rock said though, people in the industry of college sports are applauding the hire. And those same people will laud the concept of amatuerism in the NCAA and all that other BS. It is a great hire because the dude will win basketball games, but I also realize that winning is the most important thing in college basketball & football. Some people in the industry still try to act like its not.
  16. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Mar 18, 2014 -> 10:04 AM) I agree with you on that point. Hawk was amazing in the 90's and early 2000's. At this point, though, he's actually hurting the brand. I used to think that maybe my opinion of him has just changed over the years and that I was too young to care much when I watch him 10-15 years ago. But then I went through a short period where I was seeking out old games to re-watch and I realized I was wrong -- Hawk used to be a much more alert, professional announcer that had a passionate edge that made him a cut above the rest. Now, he's become a caricature. My hope is that he leaves on his own accord soon so we can honor his memory. The way it's going now, he'll either get forced out by finally going too far or he'll keep getting worse until he dies at his lowest point. I don't want either of those to happen. Well said, sums up my thoughts exactly. I agree with flavum that Hawk is now just holding out to get in the HOF. Santo did the same thing and it cost him induction while he was still alive. Sometimes walking away allows people to appreciate what you have done.
  17. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 18, 2014 -> 10:20 AM) Still playing the "fear the royals" card, huh One of these years he will be right and we will all be sorry for doubting the Royals for 25+ years.
  18. QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 18, 2014 -> 10:05 AM) I read Schefter's piece (jerk move, I know but I read it on my phone and can't find where he stored it) on the Broncos and their cap. Makes you really mad at how poorly the bears have drafted. For all of this "spending spree" they are still in fine shape with 31 players on their rookie contracts on the team. Meanwhile...the Bears. No matter how good our FA signings and re-signings continue to perform, this team is screwed until we get a draft pick worth a damn. Just look at the dominant team in the NFC North. Most of their roster has never played for another team.
  19. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 18, 2014 -> 08:44 AM) I love Hawk, and the only thing he does that really rubs me wrong is when he goes on and on about the umpires. On Opening Day and at the beginning of the year when no White Sox losses can be pinned on the men in blue, Hawk is awesome. My wife and I went to a friend's house a few years ago and he had the game on. We would say "should be" "rack em up" on a DP ball, "can of corn", and Hawk would say it. Our wives were amazed. They thought we should be doing PBP for a living. They were wondering how we knew what he would say. I just said it was a gift. That is a good point. If he's in a good mood and not finding someone else to blame or complain about, he's much more enjoyable.
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 18, 2014 -> 07:48 AM) It will be fine. The reason they didn't start this sooner is because they didn't have to. Might as well create some drama and then some high praise for Bossard getting the field ready. You know on Opening Day Hawk is a lock to say he thought there was zero chance the field would be ready, but it will be next to perfect and he will go on and on about Roger. We all know it is going to happen, so as an old college roommate used to say to women who were a little aprehensive concerning his advances, "let it happen". Ugh, gross. The excitement of baseball season gets ruined by the return of Hawk's voice.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 17, 2014 -> 12:09 PM) Izzy Idonije meeting with the Bears. http://www.csnchicago.com/bears/could-isra...come-back-bears They should have never let him go.
  22. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Mar 17, 2014 -> 05:23 PM) Flowers has struck out this spring more than Phegley and Nieto combined. 6 Ks in 26 ABs as opposed to 5 Ks in 34 ABs. Might as well cut Flowers.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 18, 2014 -> 07:01 AM) The last couple of minutes of HIMYM were worth it for no other reason than to see what happened to some bit characters. Just going through the motions at this point, only two weeks left.
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 17, 2014 -> 03:04 PM) JJ Stankevitz ‏@JJStankevitz 37m Bossard says the permafrost on US Cellular Field is 30 inches. Needs to thaw it 6-10 inches before opening day. Chuck Garfien ‏@ChuckGarfien 51m Bossard says that if the White Sox had to play today, the field would be unplayable. He believes it will be ready for Opening Day. Roger Bossard says that they've removed 400 tons of snow at US Cellular Field. Doug Padilla ‏@ESPNChiSox 50m Groundskeeper Roger Bossard says back is to the wall. Not sure 2 weeks is enough to thaw field for Opening Day. So Bossard isn't sure if 2 weeks is enough to thaw the field, but he does believe it will be ready for Opening Day. Hmmm.
  25. Here's another theory that the flight "disappeared" from radar behind a Singapore Airlines flight that was headed in the same direction as the Malaysian flight ending up veering of course. http://t.co/BJaDe9RkPk
