GT 8/23: The Return of Alex & Anthony
LittleHurt05 replied to LittleHurt05's topic in 2013 Season in Review
QUOTE (Noonskadoodle @ Aug 23, 2013 -> 09:21 PM) When it was all said & done nobody really had a bigger fan base in a Sox uni than Crede really. Agreed. He was easily the most popular non star player in the 2000s. -
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 23, 2013 -> 09:19 AM) Why are we assuming Rose wasn't using some form of PEDs? Wasn't the use of amphetamines/coke pretty common back then? I always wonder the same thing about Aaron, Maris, all the guys from the past. They were legal and accepted back then, and they definitely help over the course of a long season. Yet nobody seems to care.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 23, 2013 -> 09:01 PM) Did Hawk really just say Crede was on his way to becoming one of the best 3B in MLB history? Reason #1,256 why Hawk needs to retire ASAP. -

QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 23, 2013 -> 08:45 PM) I love how you dismiss all the teams he played on that were good, including a WS champ, a division winner, and a few others that went down to the wire. I love how you think one player's presence in the clubhouse can prevent errors and dumb mistakes. The Sox have been pissing their pants in crunch time yearly since 2006, despite this godly presence in the clubhouse. AJP is an above average hitting catcher, catches a great game IMO, and always gives 110%. That's why he is a solid baseball player, not some magical motivational ability. -

QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 23, 2013 -> 06:11 PM) Except we don't know what it might have been those years without him...until this year... True. So with AJ, the team usually underacheives, collapses, or gets embarrassed by a division rival. Without AJ, they just flat out suck. Got it. -

QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 23, 2013 -> 04:10 PM) I actually am with Greg on this one. I don't agree that AJ would make such a difference that it would matter, but I think he brought an attitude to the team that was sorely lacking this year. Who knows...maybe he keeps us in the game more early on in the season and we cure this fundamentals and s***ty defense that ailed us all year a lot sooner. It's pretty obvious that this team is capable of being a lot better than they have been this year, and having someone to keep some of these passive guys in the game a bit more may have made a much bigger difference than simply AJ's WAR alone. Again, not saying it would be enough to make a difference, but I certainly can't say with any degree of certainty that we wouldn't be much closer to .500 this year than we currently are had we had someone in the clubhouse that keeps people on their toes like AJ. To me, that was always AJ's greatest contribution to the ballclubs he was on in Chicago. 2006 - late season collapse 2007 - 90 losses 2008- tried to give away the division but held on with under 90 wins 2009-2010 - b****slapped by the Twins 2011 - underacheived 2012 - late season collapse wow, AJs clubhouse presence sure was a major difference the last seven seasons -

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 19, 2013 -> 02:20 PM) Nationals acquire David DeJesus for a PTBNL. Nothing like strengthening the bench of a non-playoff team. And now the Rays have claimed and acquired DeJesus from the Nats. Kim must be drinking up a storm.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 23, 2013 -> 01:58 PM) She is the female version of Dole on TV. Just mean and b****y if that's the right word. I predict she'll be the hot early leader, she'll get the magazine covers and the long stories, "It's Hillary Time" but she doesn't stand a chance. UNLESS she just doesn't campaign. The less she opens her mouth, the more she could just win on her name. As a CONCEPT, Hillary, Clinton II, is a great idea. The reality is she flat out doesn't pass the popularity TV test. And cmon now. Don't tell me you don't believe in superficiality regarding candidates. Obama is handsome, knows exactly how to play the camera. They've always said guys like Humphrey, Dole, etc., who looked horrible on TV didn't stand a chance. I don't think Hillary is capable of doing all those campaign speeches again and appearances without exploding. She is a strong woman. I love that. But she also comes across as a big b****. She'll never ever win. Was George Bush a great TV figure? I doubt it. Still won two elections.

What are we all thinking? Your typical standing O when he comes to bat? Or should everyone loudly boo to truly make him feel special, since that's what he's used to everywhere?

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 23, 2013 -> 06:53 AM) It doesn't sound like a lot, but the record for consecutive team games with a save is 6, held by Rod Beck (Cubs, 1998); Eric Gagne (Dodgers, 2003) and tied last night by Addison Reed. It takes a lot to get a streak this high: 1) The team has to win six games in a row 2) All six games have to be close enough to warrant a save opportunity 3) There has to be a day off on the schedule (none of the record holders pitched more than three consecutive days) 4) The closer has to actually convert all six saves Now that Reed has pitched 3 days in a row and 6 of the last 7, is there any chance Robin gives him a shot tonight if there is a save opportunity? If he was 34, not 24, I'd be down for him pitching tonight. But he has way too much value to the Sox to risk his arm like that.

Sweep!! Beating KC makes me happy, wish the Sox could have done that last year though. Anyway, time to start losing again, the Cubs are making a run for the 3rd pick.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Aug 22, 2013 -> 09:10 PM) One of the most underrated players since Todd Helton. Choo has always been one of my favorite players in the league, but just this year I realized that he just cannot hit lefties at all. That and him being 31 already would concern me a bit about giving him a big contract.

QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Aug 22, 2013 -> 02:11 PM) We may be reaching a point where we can trade a young, ready pitcher for a decent (not outstanding)haul of young talent. That is promising. Rienzo for Baez. Done.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 22, 2013 -> 01:14 PM) Maybe Alexei can get an offday before the end of the year. Garcia is an infielder? Oops, I thought he played OF.

If Hahn knows what he's doing, he will coax Karim out of retirement and the Sox can complete the Garcia outfield trifecta

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 22, 2013 -> 10:59 AM) Binny's and Jewel carry it. It tastes like piss but it packs a punch. The tallboys are perfect for when I take the Metra down to the city for some shenanigans. That extra punch gets you ready to roll.

QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 22, 2013 -> 10:23 AM) Gagne and Beck blew out their arms too. They both were also very into foreign substances. Gagne the PEDs, Beck the booze.
