  1. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 10:45 AM) ARod is so f***ed that nobody wants anything to do with him. The word is that the evidence is overwhelming. "Oh s***, son" overwhelming. Well nobody likes A-Rod either. But with the other players, there were no failed drug tests. Just an accused drug dealer's tests & testimony, not exactly the most trusted source.
  2. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 10:43 AM) It appears that the union is also bending to a change in sentiment within its membership, which seems to have shifted in the last several years to the position and views of the Frank Thomas's. It was one thing when the rules were loosey-goosey, and the prevailing players' view was: "If it isn't expressly forbidden, I'm going to do whatever I can to earn the biggest $$$." Then, the union could publically oppose testing and fight discipline on privacy grounds, while really fighting to protect the earning power of membership. Today, PEDs are expressly forbidden, and the players who take them put the ones who don't not only at a competitive disadvantage, but, more importantly an economic one. As always, it really about the $$$, but the pendulum has shifted as to whose backs the union most wants to protect. If that's the case, it might be time to start giving players like Chris Davis the benefit of the doubt again in regards to being clean. (That or they have found the newest super drug to get past the drug testing)
  3. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 10:15 AM) That's not entirely true. They will hopefully be developing talent. Go to the ballpark for other reasons. Go to the park to see Avisail Garcia. Go check out Sale, Santiago, Quintana, Johnson, Rienzo starts. Follow the club's minor league system. There is a good chance that guys like Marcus Semien, Trayce Thompson and others make their ML debuts next season. You just have to change the way you view the team as a fan. The White Sox have always said that they want sustained long term success. Now they actually mean it instead of just giving it lip service. I don't need to watch bad baseball to follow those young players, that's what Soxtalk & Twitter are for. If it's convenient I will go or watch, but if a team tells me winning doesn't matter this year, then I don't care to invest as much time in that team either.
  4. So the Sox are gonna be the Cubs in 2014? Great, another baseball-less summer.
  5. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 09:34 AM) Yes, but his word has been corroborated by the other MLB players who are getting suspended. That was the plan--give Braun and maybe some of the others reduced penalties for admitting the truth, which in turn built an ironclad case against ARod. The union is also bending over backwards for Bud, which surprised me. If they do go with the lifetime ban, I can't wait to see out play out in court. You know A-Rod will lawyer up and not go down without a fight.
  6. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 08:47 AM) Arod won't get banned for life because of the PED's. It will be for lying to investigators, coercing and intimidating witnesses and attempting to buy evidence. Isn't most of the evidence based on the word of a drug dealer?
  7. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 08:59 AM) Political asylum for one year granted by Russia. Someone may be regretting his decision...
  8. So, um, Riley Cooper might want to be careful when he goes across the middle to catch a pass this season.
  9. I guess if you are giving up for the next two or three seasons, you might as well dump him. I won't be watching much anyway. You will probably need the money to help offset more lost ticket revenue.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 07:57 AM) Yes they turned a blind eye but now that they're doing something about it, they deserve actual credit. This guy is a lifelong cheater who will walk away with $100 million because of it. He deserves a much worse fate. And how much money did he make for MLB and for the Yankees? Now that he sucks at baseball, it's suddenly much easier to kick him to the curb.
  11. QUOTE (scs787 @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 12:38 AM) I certainly realize that, 25M a year, at least . I just think with the 20M they saved from Peavy, the 25M coming in from the TV deal, and the what 20M+ that's coming off the books next year that the Sox can afford to do it. I doubt he leaves NY, and even if he does the White Sox obviously don't look like an attractive but if he was willing to come here I just couldn't say no....This is all just pipedream talk lol let me have my fun. The $25 million a year isn't the problem. It's the 10 year long contract that kills you. You have to keep paying him that much through age 41. In today's drug-less baseball, players don't age as well as they did in the 90s
  12. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 08:18 PM) No, not ridiculous at all. He got caught cheating once yet did it again. Time to go away for good. I guess I just don't see PEDs as that big of a deal, MLB allowed them and turned a blind eye for so long, suddenly they want to be the bad guy.
  13. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 07:40 PM) Maybe being "nearly worth" his 14.5 million dollar contract isn't exactly enticing. It's enticing enough that you don't dump him for nothing. You can never have enough pitching. Injuries happen. With so many young starters, regression is possible. The Sox aren't in financial despair where they need to dump money ASAP. Hold on to him, maybe you can get prospects back for him, or maybe he just returns to his pre-2011 levels.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 08:12 PM) What's Hawk said about the Peavy trade/Avisail? He's worried about Avisail's high BABIP in AAA
  15. Anybody else think it's kind of ridiculous to ban A-Rod for life? I don't care for him and think he's full of s***, but it's still a bit excessive in my opinion. (Plus, I don't want the Yankees to be off the hook for his contract)
  16. Absolutely not. I think he will be nearly worth his contract in 2014, once he gets to 100% healthy. If you can get something for him then maybe you do it, but letting him go for nothing would be an awful decision IMO.
  17. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 04:10 PM) Uh ohh.... They made it sounds like he would only miss on start, but you never want to hear about a sore elbow.
  18. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 02:57 PM) Beckham's been with the Sox longer. Co-captains!
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 02:53 PM) If Konerko retires, who would be next in line to be captain of the Sox? Wouldn't Rios be the longest tenured?
  20. Royals get OF Justin Maxwell from Houston
  21. QUOTE (coco1997 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 11:01 AM) Cardinals are now looking for a back-up catcher. How about an Alexei + Flowers package? They are in discussion to trade for a Chicago catcher. Unfortunately, it's Dionner Navarro.
  22. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 01:57 PM) The mlb.com trade deadline special is not the same thing as the MLB Network special. The online version is the same 1-hour loop over and over again and has not covered any actual trades or rumors from today. Anybody watching the actual MLBN special? They saying anything interesting? Not really. Nothing different. They are discussing the same players & teams that are being discussed on Twitter already. it's good insight, but nothing new.
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 01:49 PM) And yet they've already squandered 2 chances at a playoff birth by not making deadline moves and then falling apart in the 2nd half. MLB tends to not be kind to teams that just assume they'll be even more competitive next year. Mike Rizzo is learning that lesson
  24. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 01:29 PM) No they will lose first round to the Red Sox thanks to this trade. Not if Peavy pitches twice.
  25. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 01:22 PM) Article on Bleacher Report grading all the deadline trades was just posted, and the final grades for the Peavy trade is in according to them.... Boston Red Sox: A Detroit Tigers: A+ Chicago White Sox: C I stopped reading at Bleacher Report
