White Sox at Twins 7-18 game thread 1:05 first pitch
QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jul 18, 2010 -> 03:36 PM) Haven't seen you around here in a while, welcome back. Thanks. I'm just sick of it. It's the reason I stopped coming to these boards. There are times when you need to be optimistic (7 games against Seattle in the next 13 days or so day [if my math is right, which it probably isn't]) and pessimistic (getting swept in 4 games @ Cleveland). Let's say we just got swept by Cleveland and the Twins gained 3 games on us. I think these boards, these GREAT boards that some of you dopes are killing, would be even worse than what they are right now.

White Sox at Twins 7-18 game thread 1:05 first pitch
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jul 18, 2010 -> 03:31 PM) Most people (I think, intelligently) see the Twins as the real threat to this team, not the Tigers. We lost ground to them. You're right. The season is over. The Twins gained 3 games worth of ground. Yep. Now that I think about it, the Sox now go to Seattle, and even though they've lost 4 straight, they're still a juggernaut. Why? Because Rios blows c***, Jenks swallows, and Santos is a rookie. Totally.

2 thoughts 1: Does Rios ever dive? 2: Relax. They actually gained 1 game this series. If you read these last 5 pages, you would've thought their 1.5 out now.

Minnesota Trip
QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Jul 14, 2010 -> 03:15 PM) Alright, I'm going up to Minnesota this weekend and will be going to the game on Friday. Anyone else making the trip up? Any suggestions for things to do before and after the game? Obviously, Mall of America, and I forget the name, but there's a great restaurant outside of Target Center where the Timberwolves play. Check it out.

QUOTE (Drew @ Jan 17, 2010 -> 07:24 PM) Usually on a National broadcast, the announcers defer to the team with the better record, but those mouth-breathers were rooting for Detroit the whole game. Listen to how they called the fight between Eaves and Versteeg, listen to how they called the goals for Detroit compared to the Blackhawks. And I only have Internet, where the radio stream is about :30 behind the video, which means I can't do what I did as a kid and listen to the radio with the TV sound off. It's no secret how much of a blowhard Pierre Maguire is toward Detroit.

With the game on his stick, Hossa shoved a shootout goal right down the throat of Detroit. Love it.

I really hope Niemi is in net Tuesday as well as today. Huet was awful against Minnesota, good against Columbus, and then awful against Columbus. I want to see Niemi get more PT.

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jan 16, 2010 -> 11:03 AM) Please attend all playoff games. The last 7 I've been to (Tampa, St Louis, Detroit, New Jersey, Anaheim, Anaheim again, and then Columbus), I've only seen the other team score 3 goals (keep in mind that I left when the first Anaheim game was 5-0 and when the NJ game was 5-0).

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 13, 2010 -> 04:15 PM) I think you'll see this: Brouwer-Toews-Kane Sharp-Bolland-Hossa Steeg-Madden-Buff Ladd-Fraser-Kopecky/Eager They'll have to healthy scratch some folks. When Burish comes back, you have to unload a winger on the 3rd or 4th line. What about trading Versteeg and Sopel for Neidermayer, and then having the lines be this: Brouwer Toews Kane Sharp Bolland Hossa Ladd Madden Byfuglien Kopecky Burish Eager Keith Seabrook Campbell Hjalmarsson Neidermayer Barker/Hendry Fraser can be a healthy scratch. Just a thought...

I could sit here and explain it to you, but I'll just refer to the head story on Sporting News today. If you don't want to read it, here's the summary- USC will be fine. It's a love/hate thing. We can argue all day long. Obviously, I'm biased because I'm hoping everything is fine. Evidently, you think the NCAA is going to end everything SC has done. Which is fine, but we have to wait and see.

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jan 11, 2010 -> 08:39 PM) I think it was three Heismans (Palmer, Leinart and Bush). I hope he succeeds in Seattle too... Meant 3, typed 2. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 11, 2010 -> 10:45 PM) Are you going to say that when the NCAA brings down the disciplinary hammer and you realize that Carroll jumped ship so he wouldnt be affected? Yeah, your right. Resurrecting that program meant nothing.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 10, 2010 -> 09:36 PM) We can handle a random loss here and there. I'm much more concerned with what kept Hossa out. Supposedly it's a back injury. I hope he is fine. I think he will be. Coach Q said he should be out there Thursday. 2 game losing streak, but it was bound to happen sometime. In these next 3 games, they should take 4 or 5 points.

As (I think) being the lone USC fan here, I will say that obviously I'm disappointed. I love Pete. I love everything he has done for that program. He's a great guy and very well liked by the SC fans. Then again, I can't blame him. IIRC, he just got a $3m per year raise, and he's going to a new challenge. What more can he accomplish at USC? From 2001 until now, he's won 97 games, 7 P10 titles, 1 BCS national title, has had 2 Heisman winners, and has went 7-2 in bowl games. I hope he succeeds like hell up in Seattle.

I hate the idea of dealing Sharp. Obviously Kovalchuk is better but Sharp is such a team guy. However, if it came down to something like Versteeg, Barker, prospect, and our 1st round pick (likely to be very late), I'd do it. Even if he's a rental for us, we'll probably lose Versteeg and Barker anyways to clear cap space after the year to make cap space for Hjalmarsson and Niemi. In conclusion, to get someone as talented as Kovalchuk would be awesome, even if he's a rental. Kane to Kovy on the PP is a wet dream. Plus, reuniting him and Hossa on the same line with Sharp (or Bolland when he gets back) would be great.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 1, 2010 -> 04:36 PM) That roster is not impressive IMO. Ryan is up there in the league in goals, Parise is #1 in +/-, obviously we know what Kane can do, Kessel is a stud, Rafalski is going to be the Wings' next Lidstrom, and Pavelski is pretty damn good. Clearly, it's nowhere near as talented as Russia's roster or Canada's roster, but I think it'll be good enough to compete with both of those countries.

Obviously, we'll have to wait until March to play against the Caps, but we've already played 7 of 8 playoff teams in the East (if the playoffs started now): Boston, New Jersey, Buffalo, NY Rangers, Montreal, and Pittsburgh. We've beaten them all except Buffalo but I'd take my chances with any team coming into the UC.

QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Dec 31, 2009 -> 04:56 PM) Seabrook over Green and Phaneuf? Wouldn't have been my choice but you have to figure that Yzerman saw the value in keeping Keith and Seabrook together based on their success the past two years. I just pray that our boys come back from Vancouver healthy. Green is a terrible defensive defenseman, and Dion Phaneuf is flat out overrated.

How is Freddie Barnes not atleast in the 2nd or 3rd rounds of the walterfootball.com mock draft? He is a stud. Maybe I'm biased so Detroit (with the 2nd pick) doesn't take Suh, but if I'm St Louis, I take Suh #1 overall and take a QB with my second pick in the 2nd round.
